Although, I may not be as active and involved, or may not seem as interested in this course as the other students, I must admit this is one of few classes that I have taking here at the University of Florida that has impacted my life in one or another. The things I have learned from the many assignments you have giving us; I will forever use in my near future. I thought I knew everything there was to know about stress and anxiety, I mean I experience stress and anxiety more than often. I 've learned a multitude of things from you, my peers, and the book that I did not know entering this course. For instance, people who was once broke but now are rich and famous still find a way to have financial problems. Not only that, these individuals be so depress that a lot of their lives are cut short because the use of drugs. I rather be broke and happy with people around me that actually loves me and care about me than being famous and lonely any day. Stressing over certain situations like jobs or test to me are good stressors because that goes to show that those things aren 't being taking for granted. In other words, we stress about the things that are important to use and worry less about the things that are not. I rather stress some time than live a complete worry free life because that means you’re comfortable and I never want to get to a place I am overly comfortable with where I am at in life. Being comfortable leaves you no room to grow and I want to forever evolve. I would much rather experience anxiety than entering a situation totally confident. I know for me, every time I am overly confident for an exam or a presentation I end up doing bad because I do not study as good as I should. When I am not sure of the material I seem to put in more effort to understand it. For instance, when I go into an exam with a positive mindset that I am going to receive an A I always end up getting a C or lower. When I go into a situation doubting myself I always seem to do better than expected. For example, I had a group presentation in my theory class and we thought we were going to do so horrible; therefore, we over prepared. Stress can come from any event or thought that makes us feel frustrated, angry, or nervous. All of us experience stress and usually cope with it well. Stress is an omnipresent part of life and is a reaction to external stimuli that disturb our physical or mental equilibrium. It is a system in our body that helps us to deal with real danger and / or perform at our best. Any event or happening that induces stress is called stressor.
Stress has various effects on the body, both psychological and physiological. Stress can have positive effects on the body and can be beneficial, but frequent stress will eventually cause negative effects on the body.
For me to focus my research, and my paper in particular, it would be important that I develop a research question to be a guideline as I carry out the research. The reason why I feel that a research question will be important is that it will help me direct all my effort to the topic at hand by collectively reading and evaluating different sources of data. The research I intend to discuss in this case is, “What are the Causes and Symptoms of Stress?” When coming up with the research paper, it would be important that I answer a few questions as discussed here below.

Many people think of stress as a simple problem. In reality however, stress is complex and often misunderstood. We all know that stress is the body’s reaction to any demand on it. Perceptions of events, whether positive or negative, activate stress. It is, therefore, a highly individual affair. What is stressful to ‘X’ may not be so to another. In conclusion, life would be boring and pointless without stress. People go through stress every day. Without stress, people would have no motivation to get through challenges. Also, people would have no success in life without stress. Stress will be a part of your life. It is common in everyone’s life.
Stress is defined in the dictionary as “state of mental tension and worry caused by problems in your life”. Everyone encounters stress in their life caused by many different variables in life and we all cope with in different ways. The way one copes with the stress is how it can affect our body. Some take to working out, eating healthy, take breaks from what is stressing you out and getting plenty of sleep which are good ways to cope with it. Some take to other coping mechanisms that are not very great for the body. Some examples are stress eating, abuse of drugs and alcohol, bottling up the stress, and depression. These bad methods can cause serious damage to one’s health on the body.
Recently when I get extremely overwhelmed or stressed I can relate what we learned in class to my experience and in a way it helps me get a better picture of what I’m dealing with and how I should approach the problem. It probably sounds silly and fake but this class has really helped me deal with difficult situations in a more effective way. Not only can I relate to the topic of stress personally but I can also relate to almost every topic we have gone over. I’ve learned a lot more from this class than I expected since the beginning of the semester and the material I’ve learned will definitely stay relevant to me even after I graduate. I am no longer a psychology minor, and I’m not sure what other psychology classes could have offered me but I am glad I choose this class and that at least one class I took as an undergraduate is actually going to be relevant to me outside of the
Everyone deals with stress at some point in his or her life. Most people deal with it daily. As defined in the book called Principles and Labs for Fitness and Wellness, stress is, “The mental, emotional, and physiological response of the body to any situation that is new, threatening, frightening, or exciting” (Hoeger & Hoeger, 2012). This stress is caused by a stressor, which is also known as “a stress-causing event” (Hoeger & Hoeger, 2012). Stressors can take all different forms, from moving to a new town, having a baby, or even writing a paper (Boyd, Wood, & Wood, 2011). One major stressor in life can be going to college. If not coped with properly, these stressors can leave a person with too much stress that could end up harming them mentally and physically, such as developing an illness (Boyd, Wood, & Wood, 2011). There are several ways to cope with stress. Some healthy ways to cope with stress would be practicing emotion-focused coping, building time-management techniques, and practicing meditation.
Stress is something that everyone has to deal with in life, whether it is good or bad stress. Stress management techniques are a great way to deal with stress. Some of the stress management techniques that I learned from this course are prioritization, scheduling, and execution. Using these techniques has effectively helped me deal with my own stress. When it comes to dealing with stress I still have many strengths and weaknesses that I will explain. Some stressors I have in my life that I will discuss are psychointrapersonal, social, life events, and daily hassles. Next, I will give my opinion on my post-course survey, and compare and contrast it to my pre-course survey scores. Finally, I will explain my last goals for this stress management course.

Due to the trivial problems that occur in people’s daily lives massive amounts of stress can arise. People perceive and manage stress in many different ways. The causes and effects of stress are numerous and one’s ability to manage stress is vital in maintaining healthy living.
