Part 1:
The significance of my practicum experience was by my involvement in a real world research project and my exposure to an extraordinary, collaborative team of physicians, professors, managers, research associates, students and statisticians. My community preceptor is Mrs. Laura Diekman, Program Research Manager for Ankylosing Spondylitis (AS) Project at University of Texas Medical School, Rheumatology Department. The first phase of my practicum focused on learning data management processes by my involvement in the AS project. My specific role on the AS project was to ensure proper storage and coding of the five active sites participating in the research (CEDARS-California, NIH, SAN FRANSICO, HOUSTON and Australia) which constituted of approximately 4000 patients.
Mrs. Diekman effectively communicated my responsibilities when I first entered her office. She explained the importance of the project and how proper data management is crucial in maintaining research documents specifically for longitudinal studies. I was amazed by all the research materials that I have to handle, everything was placed in boxes including questionnaires, lab reports and medical documents and needed to be chronologically stored in manuals with proper coding specific for each study site. I worked hard during this phase of my practicum and put all the effort to accomplish my work on time. Mrs. Diekman always supported me, answered my questions, gave me positive complements and encouraged me. She is highly professional, organized, smart and cheerful lady. Her office is a very comfortable place to work in. Moreover, during her absence, her research associate collaboratively worked with me and answered my questions. Basically, my successful accomplishme...

...s of spondylitis disease that will help scientists in understanding disease pathogenicity and susceptibility so that appropriate intervention programs and treatments can be developed. Moreover, I was involved in extensive review of many published articles that were related to data management and quality assurance as recommended by my faculty advisor. Mrs. Diekman provided me with brochures and articles regarding the AS disease in order to broaden my knowledge regarding disease pathogenicity being investigated. I learned the importance of time management and organization in my work as I multitasked many skills together. I was very aware in maintaining a good balance between my classes, my practicum and my family. I am very thankful for the support of Mrs. Diekman and her team in providing me with a supportive practicum environment that was prosperous and productive.
I believe each one of us is gifted with a certain potential, and we are trimmed and molded accordingly by the tribulations of time until we reach our goal. Julia Roberts is an actress, Ronaldo a soccer player, and I am a doctor. What separates me from them is that, they have mastered the art, which in essence fulfills their destiny while I still soldier on with hard work in hand, and ambition right ahead. A wise man once said ‘Success is a journey, not a destination. Have faith in your ability rest will be just fine’. Inspired by my mentor at Shifa Clinical Research Center Islamabad, who I credit for my understanding of the sublime nature and cause of the term ‘research’, I wish to be on board as faculty at the institution in
During my residency, I had the opportunity to work with the Rheumatology Rehabilitation team at the University of Alberta (U of A). I met passionate mentors in physical and occupational therapy dedicated to helping arthritis patients preserve and optimize joint function. There was one man with rheumatoid arthritis attending the program who said the most important learning point he wanted me to take away was how much his rheumatologist and the rehab team had changed his life. Prior to starting biologic therapy, he was completely debilitated in his day-to-day life and unable to perform simple activities such as picking up his young children. He now found himself not only with disease control, but also quality of life. I value the multidisciplinary approach in rheumatology and emphasis on treating the “whole” patient, rather than a single organ
As a second language learner I have never expected myself to be a perfect writer throughout the semester. Even If English was my first language still, I would not be a perfect writer. It is not about first or second language, it is about how well I understand the learning objectives. Then organizing and writing with my own ideas and putting them in my paper. I am going to be honest, I am not good at English subject and English subject is my strongest weakness than the other subjects. In this paper I will discuss and analyze my own writing, reflecting on the ways that my writing has improved throughout the semester.
A walk through demonstration and rationale discussion completed the WinMed experience. Learning about emergency lighting, testing of emergency lighting, fire extinguishers use/deployment/charge monitoring, sprinkler systems with backflow prevention valve, smoke detector yearly cleaning, cleaning of general areas including bathrooms, trash pickup and disposal, biohazard disposal, sharp containers, standard precautions, and biohazard facility pick up opened my eyes wide to a whole new world.
Responsibility is one of the many characteristics that make up professionalism in the context of being a student in a doctorate of physical therapy degree program. When I was thirteen years old, my father was diagnosed with a rare autoimmune disease called inclusion body myositis (IBM).
Since childhood, I was fascinated about complexity of human body and was very curious to learn about it in-depth. And this curiosity eventually drew me towards medical profession. As a medical student; the more I rotated through various specialties, the more I discovered that each has its commendable ways of dealing with diseases. But I found my rotations in Medicine to be especially interesting and invigorating. Every case I came across from COPD to Cancer was an engrossing learning experience. The pathophysiology I learned earlier began to make sense and has consistently emphasized the unparalleled role of primary prevention as the best way to treat a disease. At the end of my clinical rotations, I got unique opportunities to work in hospitals and clinics primarily setup to cater medical needs of underserved worker popul...
The internship that I acquired during the summer of 2010 at the Greenwood Sports and Industrial Rehabilitation Center (GSIRC), allowed me to gain an immeasurable amount of experience during my tenure at this facility. Within this period, the exposure to new concepts within the physical therapy industry allowed me to observe and work hands on with patients of all ages and disabilities that exposed me to various treatment plans and programs to restore client’s mobility. The essential Physical Education and Exercise Science (PEES) courses taken at Lander University were beneficial to my academic knowledgebase, which prepared me and developed me for the opportunity within the physical therapy discipline. Working as an intern taught me the responsibility of time management and working within a lean schedule that allow me to further develop my skill set. This reflection paper will illustrate my classroom experience, internship experience, and learning experience.
When I reflect back to the beginning of this semester I am astonished at how much I have learned. English 124 has been a real eye opener for me. Not only have I grown as a writer, but it has challenged me to become more of a critical thinker. In the class we have read many articles on diverse topics, studied theories of history’s greatest philosophers of education, and wrote various styles of papers.
I started to explore the different fields of medicine by working as a Medical Scribe in the Emergency Department, ER tech in Trauma Centers, getting involved in research, volunteering at hospitals and taking high level science classes. This will enhance my knowledge and experience i...
In anticipation and preparation for working 450 hours in my practicum, there will be a multitude of factors that will both increase and decrease my motivation, capacity, and opportunity to learn. The practicum is set up to where I will be able to do a self-check and reflection on the previous week worked, after my face to face discussion with my field instructor I will then take any feedback and constructive criticism that was given and apply it moving forward. This information will allow me to take away small pieces to learn and grow from, seek new opportunities to learn whatever I am missing, and continue to motivate myself to strive for more knowledge. I believe I am motivated through extrinsic motivation, in the fact that I have a higher goal in mind for my future which is why I am motivated to finish the practicum. “Extrinsic motivation, requires an instrumentality between the activity and some separable consequences such as tangible or verbal rewards, so
My practicum was a tremendously helpful experience. I have learned how to be a better educator as well as have grown in my Christian walk and being an effective Christian Teacher. I can say with more certainty now that I am able to student teach next year.
Due to this practicum course, I have been working for the Detroit tigers since May 16 2016 until August 13 2016. The Detroit tigers employed me as an Intern Certified Athletic Trainer for the minor league system; specially to perform my duties for the Gulf Coast League during the respective season, and to assist the Minor League Medical Coordinator / Rehabilitation coordinator; Corey Tremble, on his daily duties. The sports medicine staff is in charge on the injury prevention, first response, injury assessment, treatment and rehabilitation, and organization and administration duties.
Throughout my clinical rotations during undergraduate school years, my inspiration had grew bigger and bigger. I found countless professors and physicians who were exceptionally talented and hardworking. They are willing to share their knowledge and experience with me and I was amazed by the fact that how small changes in clinical signs and symptoms could lead to very different diagnoses from one patient to another. I was really inspired by their clinical decision making, passion about their work, diagnostic abilities, communication skills and empathy.
In high school, English was my strongest and favorite subject. I never had to work as hard in English as I did in math or any other subjects I took in high school. My peers would cram all night for a Literature test we were going to have but not I. I excelled in writing essays about Moby Dick and his white Whale or Beowulf and Grendel. My confidence in my ability to write was always high and when I enrolled at Chattahoochee, I assumed my confidence would not waiver. When I received my grade for my first paper, I was in shock of all the red ink that covered it. English 1101 taught me the skills I needed to have to be able to write a great paper and prepared me for what was to come for English 1102. English 1102 have taught me to rethink my abilities as a writer and to work harder and spend more time on my essays and think outside the box.
My parents arrived in the United States hoping for a better future not for themselves, but for the baby they carried in their arms. We would often move from relatives ' houses since my parents couldn’t afford renting an apartment themselves. We were fortunate enough to have caring relatives who didn 't mind us living with them since they knew the hardships we were going through. I grew up in a household where only Spanish was spoken given that both my parents didn’t speak any English at all. When I was in kindergarten, my teacher was afraid that I would be behind the rest of my classmates, given that I only spoke Spanish fluently. I was fortunate to receive free tutoring from my kindergarten teacher. We would often read books together until
