Recommended: Religion versus philosophy

Humanism is a philosophical and ethical stance that emphasizes the value of human beings, both on the individual level and on the collective level. Humanist prefers critical thinking and logic over established doctrines of faith. However, humanism can take many forms and people will mold their worldviews around them to enhance their morals, knowledge, and life. As I have begun to form my worldview and decide what I value in life, and what principles those values follow, I am stumped. I am not sure if I truly know how to articulate what my worldviews are as I am still young and learning new philosophies and meanings for life in this diverse world we humans call home. The following is an attempt to explain how I currently feel about the world and what could be a successful way to lead a happy, fulfilling life. To offer points of reference in this manifesto, I will be citing the ideals of Christian Humanism and how my ever changing worldview agrees or disagrees with a Christian Humanist’s worldview. How can I love my dog and also love macaroni and cheese? Do I love them same? Or do I simply enjoy macaroni and cheese more than any other food? The value of the word love is diminished when it is wasted on material and inorganic objects. Love is a powerful force, its use in language has stunned and brought tears to many, but somehow, as a society, we have diminished it to a simple four letter word that means nothing. The value of love cannot be truly lost, however. Its value can be felt in warmth of a parent’s touch or seen in a stranger helping another when they are in need. Love transcends its literal meaning in more ways than one. It is not the word itself that has meaning, but the action behind the word.
