Many people do not actually take the time to think of how the word helping has multiple different viewpoints from different individuals. The word helping can mean many different things: giving a physical helping hand, giving verbal advice, and referring to a professional counselor. I learned a lot throughout my life from family, friends, girl scouts, and teachers on how helping can be very important in our everyday lives. Other individuals have different views on their personal belief of helping, but mine has helped me through my life. If you have been asked to help hand out papers to the class, and you pass out all necessary papers, this is an example of helping. Also, helping your mother/father clean the house would be considered a way to …show more content…
You feel you have accomplished something and given hope to someone that did not think hope existed. A few homeless children came into my work place needing something to drink, so I bought them a two liter of coke and cups of ice. After giving them these items, their faces lit up with huge smiles and joyful voices. Watching them react in this manner made my day a lot better. Three personal values I have is spirituality, relationship, and family. Spirituality is my main value because God will never leave you even when others will. My relationship with my boyfriend will be second in my opinion, he is my future and my comforter. Also family is never last, this value is very important that is why it is second to, they have walked through life with me and been my supporters from day one. Values differ from each individual, these are the most my values which are important to me. Professional helpers need to know what is going on with a situation an individual is having. They need to assist the problem to determine a solution that will help that person with their situation. The professional helper needs to believe what the client says is correct, so there is appropriate help given. Although some people are hard to believe, they need to consider everyone is telling the truth until proven
I grew up with people who helped for a living. My mom’s job was helping girls that had got themselves into trouble and needed help, that is when I learned as a toddler, that helping is what I wanted to do. I soon got into elementary school and I was a big helper. I still am. Last year I was in Mrs. Harkabus’ class and had the greatest opportunity
Why at such a young age did I ask for help? If I asked for help, then I must have known what help is. Most of us know what help it, may it be because we’ve experienced help, know the definition, or our parents taught us what help is, but what is help really? It is an act of obtaining aid from someone else, or giving aid to someone else. This definition is in fact my definition of help, created from what I’ve experienced, and seen in my lifetime. Although I have an idea of what help is, my definition is not what I am asking. What I ask is, what does help do? Most times, help is used in order to complete a task, answer a question, or find a resolution to a problem. This means that we request help in order to achieve something which we could not achieve. Now, what does it mean when we achieve something?
In middle school, I felt limited by the lack of opportunity in my community, but I made due with what I had. I took it upon myself to volunteer my extra time to tutor other students who didn’t understand the material as well. Tutoring benefitted me as well, for

The values that impact my decisions include: accountability, truth, honor, spirituality, reliability, kindness, ambition, family and compassion just to name a few. My grandfather was a successful business man in the 1930’s through 1980’s. He was a firm believer that you are only as good as your word. He did business with a hand shake and a smile. Teaching his grandchildren that if a man’s word is of no value, neither is he. Furthermore, he taught us the importance of sticking with your fundamental beliefs and principals. The value that is non-negotiable in my life is integrity. I believe it is important to be ethical, honest, truthful, reliably and trustworthy in every aspect of life. I am inspired and driven professionally by compassion, kindness and a belief in healing those that are
In conclusion I have discussed and provided five scenarios describing several occasions in which I have performed a good deed to help another individual or have witnessed someone else do a good deed to help another individual. While writing each scenario I realized that I perform most of the acts because I felt some type of way.
There are many attributes to being an effective helper. An effective helper, in essence, should be genuinely caring, have a calm manner, have a sense of humor, be a clear thinker, be highly dependable, honest, use common sense, be objective and not subjective, be self-confident, be self-aware, have a positive attitude toward life, have respect for others, exhume warmth, show flexibility and openness (Mental Health of Refugees, 1996). These are the basic characteristics of an effective helper. Above all, an effective helper must completely respect the persons they are trying to help, no matter what their values and beliefs are (Burger, 2011). You must recognize the differences between you and the person you are helping, and you must respect these differences (Mental Health of Refugees, 1996). An effective helper should not be the judge of another person’s life, but think of it as being invited to or asked to help a person. The helper should empathize with the person they are helping and not assume that they know how a person feels. The helper should understand that each person is u...
For instance, it was an extremely sunny day in Ghana, West Africa, and I had gone out to the well to fetch water. It was while carrying the bucket of water on my way back that I noticed my neighbor’s children fighting over the insufficient amount of food that they had to share. My family and I were not rich but from what I saw, I knew that we were better off than other people I knew. I carried the bucket of water inside the house and came back outside to call the two youngest children that were fighting over the last grain of food. I shared my food my food with them and though it was not sufficient for all, feeding the younger ones alone was better than not helping any one of them at all. There was only little that I could possibly do but by sharing, I had helped them in a great way, even if it was just for the time being.
Most people in the world cannot afford the luxuries of the more stable household. That is why helping people is so necessary. Helping the needy means that you are thankful for what you have, so you want to help others in return. While most are remembered for bad deeds it is important to remember that kindness is not awarded. To the people they help though, they will always be remembered for their kindness with gratitude.
Helping people, whether it is through difficult times or to just achieve a goal, is one of the most rewarding of human experiences. However, with it being so rewarding, there is significant difficulty behind successfully helping someone. Luckily there are people that specialize in helping such as peer counsellors. Although helping does come naturally for some, certain things can be learnt to make one a better helper.

Understanding who we are as individuals can be a struggle for people throughout life. It can be difficult to comprehend who we are and why we exist. There are daily outside influences that help create who we are and what our values are. Values play a significant role in our lives. They shape the choices we make and reveal a big part of our identity to the world. Some values may be more important than others, but they still manage to influence our lives in one way or another, whether we know it or not. Values can range from a tangible item to an idea that has influenced us to stand by and remember those values. The values we hold with the highest importance act as a guide and help us prioritize our purpose and goals in our daily life. My family has taught me a list of values and traits that have helped me become a well-rounded individual. I value my family more than anything because most of my core inner values have started from their teachings at one point or another. My top values that I have developed from my family are dedication, honesty, and wisdom. I will discuss who I am in terms of the important values that shape my personal belief system and decision making framework that, in essence, describes the direction of my life.
Counselling is the use of skills and training to create a relationship with ones client in order to allow for the client to form insight into their lives, accepting their feelings as their own and allowing for growth to occur. It is the aim of the helper to create a state in which the client can perform more contently and with their own self.
