What motivated me to write about this event was that I wanted to let my audience know that you can overcome anything. I also wanted to entertain my audience as well as allowing them to visualize my story. My intended audience is athletes and people who need to be motivated about not letting anything or any obstacles stop them from being great. Nerves are raging. I can feel it from my stomach to my chest like butterflies non stop, and all I hear is “Thomas get in” As soon as I hear these words my stomach start to bubble, but I know this is my time, because two days before the game I was thinking to myself [“When will I get my time to shine”] and now that I have the opportunity I’m willing to make the coaches proud. As I step on the field …show more content…
As i walk into the the hospital you smell that hospital like smell. I walk down to room door 202 i get tha t miserable feeling that everyone gets waiting hours for the doctor to come, [“Hey good morning Mr. Hawkins”]. [“How you doing Dr.Kane”] I reply. [“Well I have good news and bad new”] [“bad news is that you have a anterior cruciate ligament tear”] [“good news is that it 's a chance that you can bounce back if you have surgery”]. Tears slowly roll down my eyes as he speak as i think to myself [“why me”]. The next day I had meeting with coaches and trainer they sit me down and tell me that next semester we will have to cut some of your scholarship money. After the coach told me that my heart drop felt like nothing can be worse than this.I had my surgery which was hard for me because I couldn 't do anything that I liked to just lay in bed and think about my life which was kind of depressing for me. I thought about my future everyday like football not even worth it nomore.
Today September 19, 2016. I am faster, better and stronger than I ever was. I’m currently attending Chicago city colleges to obtain my credits and boost my G.P.A, and from here I plan on attending Southern A and M or Minot State to play football once again in a full ride scholarship. My advice to everyone is to never let anyone tell you what you can’t do as long as you work hard you can prove them
“Don’t be afraid,” he said. “Everything will be all right.” My doctor was there. That reassured me. I felt that in his presence, nothing serious could happen to me. Every one of his words was healing and every glance of his carried a message of hope. “It will hurt a little,” he said, “but it will pass. Be brave.” (79)
Both on an off the field, my enthusiasm and motivation to obtain a goal is a trait that I am very proud of. I have faced many tasks where a leader had needed to step up and I am always willing to do so. I am also willing to get help when I need it. If I can’t complete a task by myself I do not mind asking a classmate, teammate, friend or a teacher for guidance. By bringing that openness and leadership to University of Charleston’s Athletic Training Program I believe that I can also attribute to the University of Charleston’s Mission Statement “to educate each student for a life of productive work, enlightened living, and community involvement.” By bettering the Athletic Training community by providing care to our Athletes I believe that I will be a great addition to the Athletic Training

These events have strengthened me mentally, spiritually, and educationally. Regardless of what occurs in life, at work or in school, I have the ability to overcome the obstacles and the strength of mind, a compassionate heart and the knowledge to succeed in any task I undertake.
So i have therapy mondays and wednesday. And when i went back that monday my therapist was surprised of how good i’ve gotten, because i was able to move my knee more and bend my knee more than 70%. She told me that it was good but my goal is 120% or more, for me to get to the next step of surgery. So i focused on that, and i was putting in twice as much as work i usually put in. Because the only thing that's on my mind is to get back on the field and work my way to become stronger and better. Also do what i love to do and enjoy playing with my friends and family. That's the only thing i’m striving for is to come back healthy and strong. And not do the same mistake as i did before to put myself in that situation. Finally almost that time for me to receive a phone call from my sergeant to tell me what i should do before i come in for surgery. She told me to not eat or drink once it's 7:00 because i was scheduled to have surgery at 9:30 and also she told me not to put on any lotion on my knees. So i did what she asked me to, and that whole day i been thinking about what is going to happen and would i ever be the same and how would it take for me to come back and be fully healed. So i went to the hospital it was almost time for me to have surgery and i was kind of scared but i was really looking forward to just get it all over with it. After i got done with surgery i was in so much pain that couldn’t move at all. Because if i even tried to move my leg that i would be in so much pain that i have to drink my pain killers. Once i got home i was in so much pain that i didn’t sleep for a whole week straight. But then i started getting used to sleeping without a problem or pain. But my doctor would always called me and told me what to do or if i had any problem to just give her a call. Then i asked her the next day when i could start walking and stuff. She
As a child, Stephen Curry was raised like any other child, except he grew up playing multiple sports. “In an age of hyper-specialization, Curry has reached the pinnacle of his sport by doing the exact opposite. He played basketball, but he also played some baseball, football, soccer and basically everything else in a sports buffet” (Cohen). Now, Curry is known as one of the greatest basketball players of all time. Is this because of his vast background of many sports? In today’s world, children should be introduced to a variety of different sports in order to promote discipline and hard work, prevent injury, and fulfill their college desires.
Why do female athletes receive less media coverage than male athletes? Male athletes dominate professional sport that airs on television. The media easily overlooks female athletes except during occasion like the Winter Olympics. The articles Media Coverage of Women’s Sports is Important (Lopiano, 2008) and Take Back the Sports Page? (Sommers, 2010) acknowledge factors that determine the amount of media coverage female athletes receive. [Lopiano and Sommers address this issue in regards to media coverage on female athletes differently. Lopiano focuses on the general message the media broadcasts and Sommers uses statistics to show the difference between female and male media. Lopiano and Sommers agree that the media considers female sports less valid. Both focus on different aspects such as problem and solutions and the different consequences of unequal media coverage]. The authors discover similar as well as different factors that contribute to the inequality media coverage of both female and male athletes obtain.
Sadly, my family was going through financial struggles, forcing me out of the school zone I was destined to attend. When I discussed the situation wih the high school coaches they told me they would pick me up from my new house and take me to school every day; with the condition that I’d play football for them all throughout high school. Even though this was illegal I continued to go ahead and accept the offer. My first year of high school was so exciting that it went by in the blink of an eye. Sophomore year came and the clock ticked closer and closer to when everything would change. I started in varsity as a corner back but soon would have big shoes to fill as the team’s quarterback. Not only did this require skill and hard work but the ability and qualities of a leader as well. Ultimately, playing this position helped me acquire traits that would soon be necessary for success. That year was tough for us because the majority of the team consisted of inexperienced players, however the coaches knew I would be the one to lead the
Sport specialization, means to practice and train for only one sport. Some people feel it is better to specialize rather than play multiple sports. There are good and bad that come from being a single sport athlete, but there are good and bad for being a multiple sport athlete.
Later we had our first football game and I was excited for my last first game in high school, I never would have known that it potentially could have been my last game played. Within the first quarter I had broken my foot completely and because of my adrenaline I shrugged it off as a minor injury and played the rest of the game. After to what seemed like I was fine I stood up and collapsed as soon as I did so. This was the first injury that I had ever sustained and I was still in denial thinking I had just sprained a muscle. After being told that I wouldn’t be able to play for the rest of the season I was heartbroken, along with this the college that I had hoped to attend the most being West GA dropped me as a recruit. Two games passed and I was feeling helpless for myself, I couldn’t drive, I couldn’t do anything without the help of others, I had crutches but being a 320 lb. man it was very difficult getting around. As Nancy Mairs said: “I’ve been limping along for ten years now” I was off of my feet for 2 weeks and to me it felt like an eternity. This was when I decided to let college aside and all I wanted to do was finish my senior season strong, my mother allowed me to get my cast taken off and have me put into a boot. For the remaining games I roughed it out and played with a broken foot. Even with
Throughout my life, I had always received recognition for being very agile and quick. My first day of Middle School consisted of the track and field coach attempting to persuade me to join the school’s athletics program. I had previously never been apart of an athletics team, and was willing to take advantage of the opportunity. Throughout my three years of middle school, I was the one consistent member of the school’s track and field team and had an overall successful personal record. Coaches from opposing school would praise me leaving me feeling very confident about myself.
Sports psychology is the study of how psychology influences sports, athletic performance, exercise and physical activity. Some sports psychologists work with professional athletes and coaches to improve performance and increase motivation. Other professionals use exercise and sports to enhance people’s lives and well-being. While finding ways to help athletes is certainly an important part of sports psychology, the application of exercise and physical activity for improving the lives of non-athletes is also a major focus.
The first practice hit you hard we started off with sprints and that was awful people throwing up all around me and I can’t catch my breath but you keep pushing it. I think that was the turning point for me I knew that a lot of people looked at me like small kid that shouldn’t play but after beating them in sprints they saw I was not going to give up. Later on that season it was our 4 game in the season we were going up against Carbondale and we are only up by 6 on defense one of our players go down. I just got off the field on offense they said we need someone I ran to them said I will go in they gave me the nod. When I got on the field it was strange because I never played defense at the time I was just thinking just hit the kid with the ball and you will do fine. The ball snapped so I started back peddling and watching the line men to see if they fire off the line if so it was a run if they backed peddled it was a pass. They fired off the line it was a run so my next thought was where but at soon I was thinking that I saw the running back was coming my way so pushed the receiver off me so it was just me and him. It happen so fast the guy and try to make cut outside but I manage to stick my foot in the ground change direction to tackle him. When I looked up at the time
They then sent me to Children's Hospital in Philadelphia where I would receive most of my treatment. At this moment, I was reminded with the memories of all the seasons I spent playing football. I grew up in this football program. For 5 years I have been competing on the field against local towns. I have enjoyed every second of it and for it to be over in less then a second was a devastating thought for an 11 year old.
Suddenly I awake at the noise of sirens and people yelling my name. Where am I? Those words radiate out my thoughts but never touching my lips. Panic engulfs me, but I am restricted to the stretcher. “Are you ok?” said the paramedic. I am dazed, confused, and barely aware of my surroundings. Again “Yes, I am fine” races from my thoughts down to my mouth, but nothing was heard. Then, there was darkness.
