This semester I have learned a lot of new things in the first-year seminar. The few things that I have learned about myself and the type of student I am but also what to do to succeed in school. This class has helped me with the transition from high school to college for the reason I talked about before. When I first got here I was afraid of the switch because I would not have the support I had in high school that this class helped me to understand the ropes of college and how to navigate through it. This class has been for me because it has helped me in college. I feel that some of these assignments that we were assigned were helpful but others were extra. The few that I felt were helpful was the scavenger hunt around the school, self-portrait, my goal setting assignment, majors fair worksheet, learning style quiz. I will talk about why these assignments were helpful for me. The first is scavenger hunt around the school this help me to find places that will help me in my years here at this school help with work, health, and for safety. The second is self-portrait was a fun project that we did too and it helped me to learn a little more about myself then share it with the …show more content…
The first assignment is the self-assessment this taught me the type of student I am and from there try to work hard to add other skills. The second assignment is desired experiences this taught me what I want to experiences in college and the values it has for me to complete it. The third assignment is the journal write about humanics and action day which taught me that doing stuff in the community is fun and rewarding. The last one was the major fair worksheet which opened my eyes to different majors they offer here and the types of career that I would be interested in my future. This class has helped me adjust to college easier for me because of all the different things we do in class that teaches us about being a college
The biggest lesson I learn during this class is time management. I have a 9 month old baby and he allows wants my attention. I had to rely on a family member to take care of him while I get a few hours to read the textbook and do the writing assignments. I had to truly focus on my work and not go to social sites because I barely had time to do so.
During my first semester of college, I felt like this course overshadowed all the others. I faced many challenges, gained better habits, and even increased the value of myself as a scholar. Not only did my professor provide her students with the course material she built a confidence inside of us that will allow us to be able to tackle any task, especially pertaining to any written compositions. The things that I have learned from this course could and will be applied to any and everything I do from here on out, whether that writing an essay or even taking a test. Again, the journey was long, but I will be forever grateful for the things that I, and all of my peers have gained from this
The first day of my junior year I was extremely overwhelmed by this class; all the essays we were required to write in the first week didn't help much either. However, since the beginning of the year I have learned so many useful and important lessons which have guided my learning throughout this first semester and, I'm assuming, will continue to guide me for the rest of my high school experience and beyond. In addition, I have made many goals which pertain to essays I have written, and I believe I have met those goals.
Over the course of this class I feel like I have become a much better writer. When I go back and look at some of my Journal entries and assignments that I did at the beginning of the semester, I can’t help but tense up at some of the things I wrote. Sometimes the things I was writing didn’t flow well, or I might have even have missed glaring grammar mistakes.
This is my first year here at Porterville College, I can say that I have learned many new things. Things that I wanted to learn, that seemed interesting to me, and more important that I was able to do was connect somethings that I have learned in my personal experience, and I think that’s what makes it more interesting and fun. In my “Child, Family, and Community” I have learned how important it is for a child to be in a safe environment where they can have the opportunity to choose from many choices. Also I, have learned about the variety of programs here in Tulare Country that help families and young kids to better themselves for a better life. Another class that I don’t regret taking is English 73X because I have learned many things which
With college right around the corner and taking a college course gave a real sense of how college classes are going to work giving me an edge over all of the other students going to college that didn’t take a dual enrollment course. Dual enrollment was honestly one of the best decisions I made in my academic career because like what I was saying this class taught me the inner workings of how most assignment are going to be turned in, what it means to be self-reliant/ on your own have no help with assignment from your parents, experiencing a course that only a handful of assignment rather than a ton of assignment ends up making up over eighty percent of your grade (getting you to work extra hard so you won’t fail) and finally that you have to actually interact with the professor/teacher if you need help or are having trouble with an
As a second language learner I have never expected myself to be a perfect writer throughout the semester. Even If English was my first language still, I would not be a perfect writer. It is not about first or second language, it is about how well I understand the learning objectives. Then organizing and writing with my own ideas and putting them in my paper. I am going to be honest, I am not good at English subject and English subject is my strongest weakness than the other subjects. In this paper I will discuss and analyze my own writing, reflecting on the ways that my writing has improved throughout the semester.
I liked how the teacher let us pick a topic that we like instead of the teacher choosing the topic for us.I have seen myself using much more tools on editing and making new projects.I have told myself that I will never get through this and it isn't possible to finish.I have been shown that you can accomplish anything and that you just have to think about what I am going to do.I told the teacher I didn't know what to do,so I created a website and started to work on it.Then I started to post facts and soccer videos and I told myself that I was only go ...
This semester in Child Development has helped me a great deal. I came into this class wanting to be a Child Development teacher at the high school level. I am leaving this class with the same ambition to become a Child Development teacher. I have learned so much by taking this class and I know it will all be helpful in the future once I am standing at the front of a classroom. Also, just by watching the way Mary teaches the class, I have learned things that I want to take into my own style of teaching.
Over the course of this class I have pieced together many things about my own life that before went unnoticed. I am now able to see things in a bit of a different light. Now that I have been introduced to the realm of psychology I understand some of the reasons for behavior around me. I have learned that there is a reason for most everything and a lot of our behaviors and mental processes can be explained through psychology. Studies have been conducted for many years to try and pinpoint the source of our behavior and it is not something that most people think about every day. Having a better understanding of why we operate the way we do will help me to better understand myself and the others around me.
A course assignment that had the most impact on me was my 9th grade Extended Research Project in history. This project required that I perform academic research on a subject, in my case Woodrow Wilson, and then perform a 15 minute presentation on it in front of the school after having written an 8 paragraph essay. This was my first major assignment in high school and my teacher had relatively high standards for the class. This flows into the teacher that had the most impact on me, who is Eric Bright, my high school history teacher. He had high standards for his course and coursework, which challenged me and allowed me to become a better writer and approach history and historical documents from a much more analytical perspective. We would spend
I believe the part that I found most helpful was the course registration part. It is a totally new thing to us, especially an international freshman, who has limited knowledge of what’s going on about this college system. This part allows me to make a great understanding of the how do we manage our courses. It is discovered that as we go through course selection, there could be constrains that prevent us from registering courses that we desire to take. It could be a clash of lecture time or lack of space. The advice given in “freshmen advice” section of this course allow me to be well-prepared.
Without a doubt the lessons and exercises on time management were the most meaningful to me. They brought insight into why I seemed to be constantly working yet still never really got anything I wanted to accomplish throughout the day finished. I realized the majority of the activities I had been spending the most time on didn’t reflect my values of hard work and self discipline and long term academic goals to be successful in college. This motivated to completely change the way I managed my time by effectively striking a balance between my maintenance, committed, and free time.
Especially they people who facilitate it! (You MO, STEVE AND STEVEN)!! Couldn’t of asked for a better first year experience! I did not have any negative experience in the class, I love working with others and I realize that I do have what it takes to be a teacher. I believe in myself more and I trust my peers. I also have the ability to lead and be open minded. I grew throughout this course and so did the relationship I have with my peers. It’s such a great class that half of the time I forget that I am being graded. I love being part of this group, and everyone is so unique! I hope I can create this kind of classroom for my students in the
This course has helped me in many ways, especially time management, health, and money. Instead of having a very relaxing week and then panicking at the end of the week when everything is due, this course has helped me to plan out my studies. Planning them out helps me produce higher quality work and assists me with my stress problem. One thing that has helped a lot is getting short easy assignments or parts of assignments done in short periods of extra time I have. For example, instead of turning on that TV, wait ten minutes and knock out an assignment. Another asset for myself has been setting dates to have assignments done. Although these assignments may not be due on that day, getting them done and out of the way, makes more time for other
