Miguel resides with his mother, father and grandmother. He is a 16 year-old male Latina of Mexican ethnicity. His parents are legal immigrants from Mexico but met and eventually, got married after they arrived in the United States. His mother is pregnant, which means that Miguel will soon have a sister. I have been a register nurse for 15 years and feel comfortable with indications for many drugs, however I know that there are many other aspects of pharmacology that I have neglected throughout my nursing career. One of the expectations I have during my transition as an APRN is to become proficient in pharmacology. To achieve this expectation, I plan to master many of the pharmacology aspects that I have neglected since nursing school, such as pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics. I realize that the indication for a drug and knowing common dosages is only a small portion of proscribing a medication, knowing how the drug functions and focusing on individual patient pros and cons is essential when prescribing a medication. Understanding the counseling session from the client’s perspective is a very important aspect in the development of a therapeutic relationship. A clinician must be an excellent listener, while being to pay attention to the client’s body language, affect and tone. The dynamics in the counseling session that is beneficial to the client include the recognition of the pain that the client is feeling. The detrimental part of this includes a misunderstanding of the real issues, a lack of consideration of the cultural aspects of the client, and a lack of clinical experience or listening skills. Therapy Analysis The purpose of this paper is to examine the efficacy of my work as a co-therapist during the fifth session with the simulated couple Katy and Michelle. I will discuss our therapy agenda and the goals we hope to attain during the session. Introduction Interviewing and conducting counseling sessions are a very important skill to have when we are working with people who struggle with addiction problems. Each approach of interviewing is different and have different techniques, which makes it difficult some times. Watching other people conduct counseling sessions is a great tool to use, in order to see which techniques work as well as which ones do not work as well. For this assignment I will be watching three different videos, that will give me more insight in what work for counseling sessions.
I viewed all four video clips but the one I chose to do my discussion on is video clip #3. The third video clip is an individual counseling session and this week is for group counseling. The counselor in this video begin to discuss the topic on algebra grade in a gentle way without demanding him to go home and study for his Algebra test. The two skills that I observe in this video was active listening and restating and this lead the student to feel comfortable because the counsel is actively listening to him even when he made the comment about studying 20 minutes to just pass the algebra test. Active Listening help to encourage a person to try harder and the restating can determine the counselor understood correctly the teenager statement.

In this part of the assignment, I will be reviewing the strengths and weaknesses that were shown when I was using counselling skills on my client. I believe that there were more strengths when I was showing counselling skills compared to the weaknesses that there were.
The counseling session began with the introductions where I introduced myself as the counselor and later introduced my client. This stage is important in any counseling session since it is the time of exploration and focusing according to Gerard Egan as quoted by Wright (1998) in his essay on couselling skills. It is in this session that I was able to establish rapport and trust with my client in order to come up with a working and fruitful relationship with him. During this stage I made use of skills like questioning, where I would pose a question directly to my client, sometimes I would choose to just listen to what the client wanted to speak out while in some instances I would be forced to paraphrase the question if I felt the client did not understand the question I had asked previously. There were also other times when I would reflect through silence. During such a period, I got time to study the client and the information he had given. This being a difficult area, since some clients may not be able to volunteer information to you as the counselor, I decided to assure the client of confidentiality of any information he was willing to share with me with a few exceptions which I also told him about. Being open to him about the only times the information may not be confidential was part of my building rapport and establishing trust with him. I therefore, decided to ask the client what information he wanted to share with me and lucky enough he was ready to speak to me about different issues that he was going through.
Students are recruited from the schools of pharmacy via short advertisement displayed as a Power Point during a required class for first-year and second-year students. Interested students will be required to submit a resume along with the personal statement to the internship program director. Pharmacy students who express their interest in research pharmacy will be invited for an interview with the program director. Students who are self-motivated and possess great communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills will be offered a position of an intern. The goal is to recruit one student from year one pharmacy class per year.
