Recommended: Why are the Ten Commandments important to Judaism
The most meaningful lectures to me were about the Ten Commandments and how they make Jewish people better in their lives. The Ten Commandments were given to the Jewish people through Moses, from God at Mount Sinai. Since that day, the commandments have been very important to Jewish life. They can be found twice in the Torah. First in chapter twenty of the book of Exodus, and they are then again repeated in chapter five of the book of Deuteronomy. There are slight variations to these repetitions which concerns the fourth commandment, regarding the Shabbat. In Exodus, it reads, “Remember the Sabbath and keep it holy,” however in Deuteronomy it reads “Observe the Sabbath and keep it holy.”
The fact that Shabbat is in the Ten Commandments show us that it is one of the fundamentals of the Jewish religion. It is how Jews and Christians show in

For this to make sense to my parents and grandmother I had to phrase it in context of Christianity, because we are Christian. I asked the three of them how the Ten Commandments have influenced their lives. All three of their answers were similar due to their upbringing which was fairly the same. All three of them gave good responses and it could be summarized to be, The Ten Commandments give us a direction by serving as a compass. People in this chaotic world would find a sense of order, some structure. The Ten Commandments were meant to keep us happy and live peaceful lives. It teaches us that we are all born with a sinful, rebellious nature and we cannot make it to heaven without God 's help, the help being the commandments. Then I asked a friend who was brought up in a Jewish household how the Ten Commandments have influenced his life. His response was almost same, but he said he was taught to look at a way of life and also he has to follow the law codes, the same law codes we went over in
The Ten Commandments are the first ten of the six hundred and thirteen commandments given by God to the Jewish people. The Ten Commandments built a foundation for Jewish ethics, behavior, and responsibility, which are still followed in numerous religions to this day. The Ten Commandments
Concerning the nature of myths, one can often find that they are built on broad generalization lacking the premises necessary to make a solid conclusion. Such was the same myths, Pier Larson sought to disprove in his essay “The Student’s ‘Ten Commandments’.” Larson discuss damaging and caustic stereotypes that have worked their way throughout history to create a narrative that often subordinates Blacks when promulgated by a more affluent European society . One myth in particular appears to be quite troubling for its contradictory nature-that being the myth: all Africans are Black. Additionally, to be African is to be Black, Africans are not culturally diverse, and that Africans share one, essentially unified culture. Not only do I find these troubling for their outright abasement of African culture, which is plain to see, but rather for the duplicitous logic that lead to the creation of such myths, and why they remain so harmful when they are continued to be spread in contemporary.
The movie the Ten Commandments is about Moses life. He is an Egyptian Prince who later finds out he is Hebrew. Throughout the beginning of the movie, the viewers are able to see the contrast of how the Egyptians lived versus the Hebrews. Once Moses finds out he is a Hebrew, he goes off to be with them. The Hebrew people believe Moses is the chosen one and they follow Moses in order to find freedom from the Egyptians. Moses does exactly that and leads the Hebrews away from the Egyptians to their own land. While they are their Moses presents his people with the Ten Commandments given to him by God on Mount Sinai.
However, this does make a solid perception that God has chosen Moses as his divine leader and to follow him. The ten commandments were also guidelines in the religious system to create a fair and moral society and gave people structure. Some consequences were similar like the eye for an eye
Obeying God’s commandments is where we obtain this freedom. Many people feel that having to live by “these set of rules” (the ten commandments) is debilitating but as a matter of fact, it is sin that is crippling us. Plantinga (2002) stated that “Sin traps people and makes them wilt; godly obedience liberates people and helps them flourish” (p. 74-75). In Exodus 19:4-5, it says to “obey my voice,” the commandments were not given to us to rescue us, but because we have already been rescued. “God rescues people and then lays down the law,” said by Plantinga, perfectly reflects these thoughts. Grace is a tremendous word that is used more than 150 times in the New Testament to speak of divine favor granted to undeserving people. MacArthur (2014) writes in God’s Sufficient Grace that, “We are saved by grace (Ephesians 2:8) and in grace we stand (Romans 5:2). Grace upholds our salvation, gives us victory in temptation, and helps us endure suffering and pain. It helps us understand the Word and wisely apply it to our lives. It draws us into communion and prayer and enables us to serve the Lord effectively. In short, we exist and are firmly fixed in an environment of all-sufficient grace”
The First Commandment. The first commandment is Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
Throughout history, Indigenous Australians and African Americans lived out the 10 Commandments and The Beatitudes. Morality is the concern with what is right and what is wrong in someone’s actions. This report will be addressing that morality exists, even in times of hardship and injustice. I believe that Indigenous Australians and African Americans have suffered from immorality and injustice, throughout history. This paper will be discussing how Indigenous Aboriginal and African American people have lived out the 10 Commandments and the Beatitudes.
The 10 commandments tradition was questioned by Jesus due to the fact that if an individual obeyed and observed God’s Law that would please God. Another way to please God would be if, “men entered the kingdom of heaven, which is possible only if they change qualitatively in their hearts”(Zunjic)
The commandments of the Torah provide Jewish adherents with ethical and moral teachings of Judaism. The commandments of the Torah contain: the 613 Mitzvot, Ten Commandments, Oral Torah and the Covenant. The 613 Mitzvot provides the widest administration of Jewish ethical principles, which are regarded as the basis of Jewish ethics. The Ten Commandments are a summary of the 613 Mitzvot. The first five commandments discuss the relationship between God and Jewish people, whereas the next five com...
Judaism vs. Christianity Judaism and Christianity developed on the basis obeying God, on adherence to his rules and intentions and their faithful fulfillment. Since the fulfillment of God’s will is a duty of a Jewish or Christian person, both religions fall into the rule-deontological category. In Judaism, God is seen as having a contractual relationship with the Jewish people where they must obey his holy laws in return for their status of the chosen people. God rewards or punishes Jewish people based on whether they obey or disobey his will. In parts of the Old Testament, however, God does show mercy or forgiveness, and in later interpretations God’s laws such as the Ten Commandments are followed not only out of loyalty to God but also because of their high moral character.
word here is obey, we need to keep our side of the covenant and follow
After Moses led the Hebrews through the desert, he was enlisted by God to act as a mediator between the Him and His people. Moses received the Ten Commandments at Mount Sinai and received from God “multifarious enactments, by the observance of which Israel [was] to be moulded into a theocratic nation,” thus the installment of Mosaic Legislation on the Israelites. (Moses) Starting with the Ten Commandments, the Law of Moses is “the laws that God gave to the Israelites through Moses; it includes many rules of religious observances given in the first five books of the Old Testament.” (Mosaic Law) Among the guidelines set forth by God through Moses were guidelines regarding diet (Leviticus 11:3), the consecration of priests (Exodus 29:5-9) and marriage (Exodus
The Ten Commandments is a movie about the book of Exodus and Moses. The movie began at the first order to kill all Hebrews under the age of two. Here Moses is cast off into the Nile and the story begins. It ends with the end of Moses’s life and Joshua taking over. The movie, for the most part, stayed true to the book of Exodus, but some detail and major plotline were different. The movie was good, but the added love story and power struggle made the movie a little off topic. The story itself, Moses being adopted, raised, sent away, and then came back and freed the people is the same, so Exodus is followed in a general way. Some detail is not, like some of the plagues are different (Plague seven was just hail, not hail on fire), and some characters are not existent in the Bible, but appear in the movie. The movie was very good and is one of the best Moses and Passover movies of all time. The only flaw was the details that the movie lacked or were incorrect.
For instance, not all of the Ten Commandants go along with the time we are living in. One of the Ten Commandants says we should not take the name of the Lord in vain and nowadays it’s something we do everyday. In addition, religious followers may decide to act in a harmful or negative way in society and defend themselves by saying that God had commanded them to do it; which may lead to extreme religions, where its followers may take every word of the book to heart and try to implement those views on their society. On another note, our society can have this as our moral system because of different religions and of atheist because, since they believe in other values. With the Divine Command it makes us question on whether who came first, God or right. When comparing the Divine Command with the Minimum Conception, it can be deduced that both are very differing from each other. One of the reasons being that with the Divine Command God chose for us what it’s right or wrong and if it became a moral system, atheists will feel out of place because they have a different set of believe just like other religions.
The Ten Commandments, Seven Deadly Sins, Seven Virtues, and the Attitudes are the sets of laws that people base their lives around in becoming good Christians. Each set of the laws affect a Christian individual, more than any other because of the laws are rooted to the bible and Christian beliefs. So, a Christian individuals knowingly or unknowingly bases what they do in life around these sets of law. The Ten Commandments and seven deadly sins tell an individual on what they are not supposed to do. The Seven Virtues and the attitudes tell an individual on what they must do and how they can combat the deadly sins. However, even though some of the laws are outdated they still play a role in how we act. Each set of laws has its own distinct characteristic, for example some tell people what not to do in their lives and some tell people what to do in their lives and how to live their lives.
