A Reflection on IDS 180-01 and How it Has Impacted Me I took IDS 180-01 because I’ve always known that I want to study abroad. I want to because of all the opportunities it offers. Studying abroad would be my first chance to explore the world on my own. It would also provide me with numerous opportunities to learn in and out of the classroom. Studying abroad is the best of both worlds. I get to further my education and make progress to become the physician I wish to be, while living in a totally new and exciting environment. Getting to learn and adapt to a new culture presents its own challenges like culture shock, but in the end, I think that it’s an important process that everyone should go through. I believe that studying abroad would also …show more content…
I hope that studying abroad in Norway will teach me a lot of things and make me a better, more intelligent person. Being away from home for so long in an exotic and foreign place will hopefully make me more confident in the end. I will have to be responsible for myself if I get sick or lost and will have to guide myself through new situations without someone I know that would make it easier. I hope that being in Norway will really make me appreciative for what I have back here in the United States, whether it be food, family, or any aspect of life. Norway will be the only way that I am going to learn to truly be independent. Here in the United States, I exhibit more independence than many people my age, but I always have someone to help me or take care of me if I mess up. In Norway it will be all up to me. It will be up to me to make friends and create new relationships to replace the ones that I had back at home. Norway will also be the only way I am ever going to be able to travel alone. I would never be allowed to go across the globe by myself if it wasn’t for an academic purpose. Introduction to Study Abroad taught me so much more than what I thought it would. This course opened up my mind to new ideas and helped me understand the world better than I had before. I learned everything from how to budget my trip to understanding how stereotypes work and how they can be hurtful. In IDS180-01, I learned things that I will keep with me while I am abroad and even after I return from my
I have heard many great things about studying abroad from family and friends. I hear things, including: studying abroad allows one to experience another culture directly, helps you develop new skills that you cannot learn in a classroom, and also helps one learn about themselves. Listening to the people close to me talk about how amazing their time abroad, was made me realize it is something I desire to do. I know this opportunity will be extremely beneficial to me for numerous reasons: I want to learn more about who I am and my values, I have never been off of the continent before, it is a great thing to put on my résumé and will enhance employment opportunities. I will value studying abroad in Italy because this experience will assist me
In the last few years, studying abroad has become an increasingly popular choice for higher education among international students (Accessibility Navigation, 2014). An average of 10% of students in universities all across the UK are international students from countries all over the world. (Accessibility Navigation, 2014). Although the experience is different for each individual student, there are many common problems that international students face. Those problems include: culture shock to varying degrees coupled with emotional issues(Bailey, 2005), Language barriers along with other communication problems (Sherry et al, 2009), and academic problems due to a change in school curriculum (Ramachandran, 2011). This essay will expand on the common problems faced by international students in the UK, offer solutions for handling the problems, and making the process of acclimating to a new environment easier for students.
Being part of this study abroad was an experience unlike any other. That is to say, I experienced parts of my own culture that I had by no means witnessed before and I returned to the United States with a superior knowledge of my cultural roots. Similarly, as an educator after a week of teaching in Las Clavellinas I’ve gained an immense amount of understanding that would have taken me years to acquire in a traditional classroom setting in the United States. Consequently, this study abroad has confidently equipped me as an educator as I commence my teaching residency and for the real-world once I graduate and begin teaching.
Being an international student is exciting. It offers a lot of exposure and scope for improvement. Canada has a lot of institutions that accept foreign students, but before that, the practical difficulties an international student might face in the country should be noted.
Learning about new cultures is my favorite thing to do. I interact well with others and enjoy networking with new people. I have found that my ability to meet new people is a trait that makes every visit I have taken to different countries an enjoyable visit. I wish to participate in this program because it has always been a goal of mine to study abroad. By participating in this program I hope to learn about another culture, make international contacts, and gain valuable international business skills.
Standing out of the crowd is a great way to get attention for a good job or acceptance into a university. Taking a gap year to study abroad can open many doors and help teens become better equipped to identify and interact with people from other cultures. “With so many international experiences available, more than 80% of gap year students say their experiences make them more globally aware” (Salisbury). In an expanding business world, increased cultural awareness and even language skills will help future teens of the workforce be more successful in their careers.
Going to study in a new country can be a stressful experience, from learning the culture norms to new foods. Culture shock is common with international students. Culture shock can include, meeting new people, language barriers, social behaviors, and a sense of community. A students comfortability with the culture of their new home can determine their learning experience. It can be an emotional rollercoaster, being so far away from family and friends. American culture is difficult to understand. International students find Americans to be confusing. Social norms vary depending on the part of the country a person is in.

After my high-school graduation I did not know which university should I go to? Should I go to a university in my home country or at one in other country? At that time I did not know the answer for that question, and I did not know which choice could be better. I needed some advice or someone to tell me the better choice, and in my life I did not know a person better than my dad on giving advices. He told me that the better choice would be to study abroad, and I will tell you how he convinced me.

I always want to be an international student because I believe that learning in different surroundings will offer me a chance to explore the world. In order to become one, I have been preparing myself for this upcoming challenge. Long years of studying and paying most of my attention to school work made me wonder whether it is worthwhile to spend so much time on textbooks and became curious about what it is like to study in another country. In 2011, I seized the opportunity provided by my senior high school and became an exchange student in the U.S. . I didn’t fit in perfectly in the beginning, but throughout my exchange year, I had learned to adapt m...
I used to be the person who would stick with a small circle of friends, but after traveling to Europe, I realized that being abroad is a great way to open my mind, to listen to different voices, and to learn from all kinds of interesting ideas. Last summer I spent one month in Europe with other high school students who were from Los Angles, Tennessee, and Guam. From my last travel experience, I learned a lot more about myself and also, more importantly, about friendship and personal connections, because of the unique places in which we spent exploring. That month living abroad was a meaningful experience, because it allowed me to adapt to things that were unfamiliar and unusual. Therefore, now I have a strong desire to explore European counties more and I believe that a study abroad experience could let me acquire greater knowledge and understanding of the foreign cultures.

There is nothing quite like traveling, going someplace new and finding out more about the world and yourself. Anyone can become a traveler it just takes a little bit of faith and courage. Traveling across the world or even across the country is a learning experience. When you are a traveler you see how people live and how different cultures work. It is the best educational experience you could give yourself. You see how the world works in a way no one can teach you. Seeing different cultures and people help build the person you want to be.
