Reflection On Personality Development

In Child Psychology we learned about the different areas of development in where a child grows throughout the stages in life. These areas are Cognitive Development, Physical Development, Personality Development, and Social Development. I will be analyzing myself in the Personality Development area, which, is when the ongoing interaction of temperament, character, and environment. According to Eric Erikson’s theory of psychosocial development, personality is what individuals use to understand themselves and the meaning of others behavior. When we are born, we do not tend to have a full showcase of our personality yet; since we mostly just sleep, eat, and cry. However, as early as in infancy, we begin to pave the way for the personality we will have for the rest of our lives. I come from a family of ten children, meaning my parents had their hands full with my other siblings. I would say I grew up feeling like the middle child in my family. And it is common knowledge that the middle child has a higher risk of being neglected. I will not say it was something that I would resent my parents for as I know they did the best they could. Especially, when I had a sister one year older than I who was a difficult child. I have learned that being an easy baby meant I was easy to approach and calm down.
