In Haidt chapter on Love and attachments, one idea I liked is passionate and companionate love and the caring system. All these factors can play a key part in my experiment since in some cases kids do not enjoy certain things you do like music or even food. It does not mean that you will not want to hang out with them. On the days I do work in the school I will try being more friendly to the kids by not expressing much anger and not be giving out detentions. Even though, this may possibly be difficult to do I will constantly keep talking to myself to not get angry just keep having a smile without smirking. People all over the world are gentle and kind right? The problem here is that others know that and they have no issues with taking advantage of and deceiving those nice people. “Love in L.A.” by Dagoberto Gilb is a short story that provides an outlook on this playful side of reality. It is normal and a good sign if someone feels guilty over lying, but this story shows a man who has no regard over who he hurts by lying and using trickery. It isn’t uncommon to see this kind of behavior in our modern day society and Gilb is acknowledging it in this short story. Gilb’s use of characters, events, and tone conveys the friendly aspects of life and how some people take advantage of those aspects.
As a result of stakeholder loyalty, positive relations amongst students, parents, staff and community members is frequently developed. Positive relationships allows teachers and parents to ask more from their students. A student is more willing to work for a teacher when there is a positive relationship. Parents will be able to encourage children to complete school work when their child has a positive connection with the school. This positive relationship results in a desire for staff and teachers to want to help students. Teachers and staff are less likely to help students that choose not to complete tasks assigned to them or students that have a negative attitude toward them.
"Love in L.A.," written by Dagoberto Gilb, is a story full of irony and multiple themes. The story is set in Hollywood during the summer time. Written in third person objective, "Love in L.A." guides the reader along through the story as opposed to an omniscient point of view.
"They turn casually to look at you, distracted, and get a mild distracted surprise, you're gone. Their blank look tells you that the girl they were fucking is not there anymore. You seem to have disappeared.(pg.263)" In Minot's story Lust you are play by play given the sequential events of a fifteen year old girls sex life. As portrayed by her thoughts after sex in this passage the girl is overly casual about the act of sex and years ahead of her time in her awareness of her actions. Minot's unique way of revealing to the reader the wild excursions done by this young promiscuous adolescent proves that she devalues the sacred act of sex. Furthermore, the manner in which the author illustrates to the reader these acts symbolizes the likeness of a list. Whether it's a list of things to do on the weekend or perhaps items of groceries which need to be picked up, her lust for each one of the boys in the story is about as well thought out and meaningful as each item which has carelessly and spontaneously been thrown on to a sheet of paper as is done in making a list. This symbolistic writing style is used to show how meaningless these relationships were but the deeper meaning of why she acted the way she did is revealed throughout the story. Minot cleverly displayed these catalysts in between the listings of her relationships.
We will address attachment bonds, using activities where parents and children work together to solve problem, demonstrating teamwork on a project that translate into teamwork. For instance, we can give them a puzzle to work on and this will show how well they work together as a team to solve a problem. The belief system will be strengthened by educated parents about their real role in their adolescents lives. Correspondingly to the belief system, the parents commitment bond will strengthen if the parents understand that it has an affect on their child’s lives. We want to instill that the parents understand that they need to be emotionally and psychologically invested in their relationship with their child. For my honors assignment, I chose the TED talk “The secret to desire in a long-term relationship” by couple’s therapist Esther Perel. As I read down the list through my options for the assignment write up, this one caught my attention right away. I feel as though this article specifically lured me in because I could relate to it the most, taking that I have been in a long-term relationship for seven years. I felt that choosing to write about this TED talk would be beneficial to me in hearing what Esther Perel had to say on the topic that may affect someone just like me, and to also connect to all that we have learned in FSHD 237 this semester.
