When people intersect with life itself, the experience a form of culture. Depending on how they deal with it or express their feeling towards it, culture plays a part in it. We live in a fast pace world and we do not always understand what it means to step into someone else’s shoes. Cultures are not exclusive, however it is not something a person just automatically joins. To be fully submerged within a culture, one must possess feelings, interests or have common actions of other people within the culture group. As a christian I’m a part of Christian culture in society as I share common beliefs and practices as others within this culture. As I began to search for a different culture to analyze, I came across a new friend in one of my classes …show more content…
The literal term “atheism” in Greek, meanings “without gods.” For myself, being in a Christian high school and university, I have been surrounded by Christian people so exploring this new culture I knew was going to be a challenge and a difference in my life. To begin, I studied on some atheism facts as I wanted to be able to learn things from Braydon’s point-of-view. A misconception of atheists, are that they became atheists due to the fact that they are angry at God. This is a myth as atheists are atheists because they see no evidence of a God. While it may seem, they lack to know the purpose of life, atheists will often say they are always searching for the purpose of life within the earthly world. Atheism is on the rise in America today as in five years, it has seen an increase of almost 1%. With all these facts and numbers, it seems that atheists are just a growing group of close minded people. If you believe that statement is true, you might as well stop reading right here as it was not too long ago I was in your shoes, however my beliefs on that have changed
Can you imagine yourself being apart of a group or lifestyle, now imagine yourself not fitting in. Maybe some people think you’re weird, but people just like you understand. Many suggest that it’s dangerous while others want to join. Whatever the reason may be you still consider yourself apart of society. As you grow older you realize that many people have different backgrounds and maybe even distinct behaviors. When people feel a deep need for love or respect, values and morals may be forgotten. It’s their customs, rituals, and beliefs that make up their own culture.
Culture often means an appreciation of the finer things in life; however, culture brings members of a society together. We have a sense of belonging because we share similar beliefs, values, and attitudes about what’s right and wrong. As a result, culture changes as people adapt to their surroundings. According to Bishop Donald, “let it begin with me and my children and grandchildren” (211). Among other things, culture influences what you eat; how you were raised and will raise your own children? If, when, and whom you will marry; how you make and spend money. Truth is culture is adaptive and always changing over time because
It is not something that you can explain in a class. Culture is caught, not taught. Culture develops and evolves on a daily basis and is a living breathing part of how society lives life. Culture is determined and defined by words, actions, and priorities. Whether people know it or not, God has put the seed in every person and when they come into an environment of literature and creative arts they are remind of who they really are. A truth we must embrace is that literature and the creative arts shape culture, which includes church and unchurched people alike. We are all a part of shaping culture. That is not to say that Christians must accept everything culture throws at us, but it does mean that we refuse to hide from it. Christians are called by God to be the salt and light of the earth. While we cultivate and embrace wholesome and God fearing lives, we must not ignore the fact that this same light needs to be shone within culture. When one reads the Book of Acts in the Bible, one will discover that the Gospel was meant to thrive in the public square. If the Gospel was meant to thrive in the public square, then Christians should not fear, but embrace the assortment of culture within society. In fact, this is our
Culture sometimes informs the way one views the others and the world in our everyday lives. Some say your culture shapes you as who you are but others say that it’s the experiences you’ve had. Whenever I hear the question “To what extent does one’s Culture inform the way one views others and the world?” I think of two different things. I think of the differences between people, an example being people who have homes and the homeless. They have different point of views because they are in drastically different situations. So I do agree with it may have to deal with experiences, but then I also think about racism and racial judgement, etc. Thats where the Culture comes into play and then with that information I stand in the middle. Its both,
Atheism of a certain sort can be supported by appeal to the existence of widespread nonbelief in God. This is shown by a Canadian philosopher, J. L. Schellenberg, in his book Divine Hiddenness and Human Reason. His argument is as follows:
Some people may still think that being from a certain culture is strange due to the way that a person dresses, acts, or portrays themselves. Put yourself in their shoes and imagine how they may feel. They may be the only person out of all their peers from a different background. Culture should not be the foundation of life’s choices but, instead should be the opportunity to change minds for the good of
"The Christian god can easily be pictured as virtually the same god as the many ancient gods of past civilizations. The Christian god is a three headed monster; cruel, vengeful and capricious. If one wishes to know more of this raging, three headed beast-like god, one only needs to look at the caliber of people who say they serve him. They are always of two classes: fools and hypocrites”(Jefferson). Atheism is the belief that God does not exist and Judaism believes in only a unitary God and Christianity believes in the Trinity of God. This natural progression might be thought of as the stair steps to truth, but whose truth is the real question we need to answer, and I can assure you that it cannot be answered in a mere 8 pages. Disregard you’re current opinion and give merit to each point of view, and then decide which is right for you.
Experiencing a society of multi-cultures is beneficial through a variety of concepts to epitomize each individual identity. A person may vary in the degree to which he or she identifies with, morals, or...
Religion is the belief in and worship of a superhuman controlling power, especially a personal God or gods, a particular system of faith and worship or a pursuit or interest followed with great devotion (Oxford Dictionary, 2014). From religion, many new groups, communities and further derived religions have formed. Closely related to religion and with endless controversies surrounding it’s classification as a religion is the concept of Atheism- which is defined as the disbelief or rejection of a deity. Descending from this is a social and political movement in favour of secularism known as New Atheism. Understanding the historical content concerning the emergence of atheism, this essay will then address how various aspects within the field inclusive the goals, structures and approaches have emerged and developed over time in comparison to the original atheist ideals.
Culture is the substance of who we essentially are in life. It identifies the kind of values and practices that are learned from church, home and even the surrounding community. In addition to these learned beliefs and values, we also learn from music, food, health remedies, and sports which symbolizes something unique in a culture. Furthermore, our culture is the key to how we view and perceive the world as well. A lot of times we don’t realize that our culture can be subsequently be used as a tool to communicate and socialize with others. In recent, it has been brought to my understanding that people determine who are by examining which side of the city you come from. Having an awareness of one’s own culture gives an individual sense of pride and understanding of their life.
No human being is culture free. We are a product of the many different cultures which surround us. Our values, worldview and experiences are structured by the society and culture that exert influences on our lives each day.
There are many different types of cultures and ways people would react in different situations. When a person thinks of the word culture they start to think of races, places, and states. Culture is in fact a lot more than that, culture is a society’s set of unique patterns, behaviors and beliefs (M.A., Lucas, Social Psychology Sociological Perspectives 3rd edition). Culture can be identified in various ways for example, the way you feel about certain situations or how would one person react differently from the way they grew up environmentally or religiously. The way a person was raised environmentally, physically, and spiritually all have an effect on other cultures. The way a person would normally act would no longer act that way due to the actions of the past. Different cultures affect other cultures in almost any way possible.
Culture has a big impact on how we all fit in as individuals in today’s society, and since this assignment is about that I decided to include some of my own experiences to illustrate my point of view and compare it with those of my classmates and some of the readings.
Let’s start off by explaining what atheism is, it’s when you don’t believe in any form of an “Intelligent Creator” or God, as usually referred to as. The word atheism comes from the root word “theism”, which is when you believe in a God, or numerous Gods depending on the religion, and the prefix “a”, which means “not”. There are no set practices of atheism, or a set list of beliefs. To be an atheist you must believe what you would like and simply live your life without constraints based on what you believe is good or bad, not what you are told is good or bad. There is a constant debate against atheism from the theist side, because both sides’ arguments are polar opposites and each believes their side of the argument is 100% valid. I will state my view on some arguments, and clarify some common atheist stereotypes.
Sociologically, deviance is defined as actions or behaviors that violate both formal and informal rules of social norms. I chose to address the deviance of atheist belief; the belief of heterosexual cis gendered middle class atheist males in America is incredibly deviant according to patriarchal historical pretense. Atheism is defined as “the doctrine that there is no deity” (Merriam-Webster). Heterosexual cis gendered middle class atheist males are deviant from the generationally passed down faith of ancestors and the mythologies that built empires across the globe.
