In Shatter Me, Juliette Ferrars, the protagonist, started the story in solitary confinement because she is a “danger to society” as some would say. Her parents sent her from hospitals to to experimental labs and now to this prison. They abandoned her when she was only 8. In the book it says she hasn't touched or even spoken to someone for almost a year. She keeps writing in her journal that she wishes that birds could fly again. Her childhood was shattered because of her ability to kill people. And now Warner, the leader of Sector 45, doesn't help at all with trying to exploit her power as a torture device for people of rebellion. He Shatters her self esteem even more. Her soul is deeply scarred. The book is written by Tahereh Mafi. In an interview in the LA TIMES, Mafi reveals that she has moved from Connecticut to northern California when she was twelve. And again she moved to orange county when she was 14. Like Juliette, she says she felt as an outsider during school. Because of Mafi’s Iranian background her beliefs and culture was different than the other kids she went to school with. Juliette is an outsider because of her power. The point of view is 1st person. The dialogue mostly takes place in Juliette’s mind in the beginning of the book. The pronouns used are “I” and “me”. Juliette Ferrars is the protagonist of the story. She is 17 years old. She is a static character because as the story goes on she becomes more courageous and opens up to Adam Kent. Adam Kent, aged 18 years, is a supporting character in the story. He is romantically involved with Juliette throughout the story. Warner is the antagonist in the story. He is 19 years old. As the story progresses he stays crazy and wants to use Juliette’s power to hurt oth... ... middle of paper ... ...hey would be informed of the other side of WWII. Summary - Impulse Vanessa, Tony, and Conner all want one thing, true happiness. Vanessa is a beautiful and smart girl, but she hears the sound of the blade calling for her. Tony is a boy with a troubled childhood who can only find happiness in pills or other drugs. Conner may seem like has a perfect life with his perfect charm but on the inside he is troubled with depression. They meet in a mental institution called Aspen Springs. They go through all the levels, in order to leave the institution, together. Tony and Conner both fall head over heels for Vanessa. Vanessa loves both of them but eventually falls for Tony. However they all face different obstacles. So when they go through their final level, a campout in the middle of nowhere, Conner jumps off of a cliff. Vanessa and Tony are devastated.
