Based on the book I have read, Man & The Universe, written by Mostafa Al-Badawi, I am overwhelmed. To be honest, this is my very first time reading such book, ilmiah book, because I know I really don't like reading at all. Not even reading novels. I have very least interest in reading! But since, reading this book is one part of the assignment to be completed in Historical and Philosophical Foundations of Malaysian Education, I still have to read it until the last page of the book. At first, I feel like it is so, so hard to finish, I even feel like it is impossible to finish it, but I did not gave up. I still continuously reading it After few pages of reading, until I have reach page 33, I became more and more excited. Maybe, that is one of the part that I trigger my attention a little bit. I like all the way that it has been written like, and I like all the presentation because I could understand it quite well. Although sometimes, I still have to open dictionary to find some bombastic words and new words that I could not understand. ...
There were many parts of the book that had me hooked; I couldn’t stop reading no matter what was going on.
This book is a very interesting read, if you have some self discipline. I mean that you need some self discipline because this book didn’t really captivate me in the sense that I couldn’t put it down. But after reading it for a while, I started to appreciate the author’s way of describing the characters and actions in this book.
This is my personal reflection about this book. First and foremost, I would like to say that this book is very thick and long to read. There are about nineteen chapters and 278 pages altogether. As a slow reader, it is a quite hard for me to finish reading it within time. It took me weeks to finish reading it as a whole. Furthermore, it is written in English version. My English is just in average so sometimes I need to refer to dictionary for certain words. Sometimes I use google translate and ask my friends to explain the meaning of certain terms.
... it was nice to not feel overwhelmed by the language used in the book. Overall, this book was insightful, entertaining and extremely helpful. I loved this book and highly recommend it.
Honestly this was one of the most engaging pieces I have read in a long time. I’ll admit I don’t like to read much, however I could not
In this book we shall begin with the main points which the teacher of this book as addressed to its reader, these points are mysterious, injustice and the frustrations of life. And in all these circumstances of life we see that God is the ruler and the controller of our destine. The first thing which the book as addressed to its reader is how someone can enjoy life through the gift of working hard which God as given to the sons of men under the sun. in this book life is been understood as useless because of its complications were by, no matter how somebody may spend the all entire life working and laboring hard, the question is this what do they have to show for it? Life is like casing after the wind because generation comes and go, but life continues. Therefore, no satisfactions, not even the ears can hear enough. In addition to this under the sun there is nothing new and there is no difference between the wise and the foolish because both of them they have same destine (death). This book teaches that the wiser you are, the more worries; the more you gain understand the more it hu...
when I am finished I have a totally different attitude. This book has the same concept, but on a
The book makes me understand the importance of reading and know how weak I’m in reading comprehension. Not only is my reading speed slow, but also my thoughts after reading are immature. I haven’t fix some time to read English books before so my background knowledge and vocabulary are far from abundant.
The text was written with reading out loud in mind, that can not be recommended; but it is suggested that the reader attend with his ear to what he takes off the page: for variations of tone, pace, shape, and dynamics are here particularly unavailable to the eye alone, and with their loss, a good deal of meaning escapes. I really enjoyed reading it which is unusual because I usualy don't enjoy reading to much. There
...more involved with the reading in this course, I understand the political undertones, religious themes, and the cultural awareness that I need in order to fully comprehend the meaning the authors convey. I believe it will be a challenge, but I will have a new perspective as well as new expectations as I continue reading literary masterpieces.
I believe this book is worthy to be read by everyone. This book sets a perfect example of how people dig their own graves by thinking irrationally. The Author and even I believe thinking rationally, practically and logically rather than behaving irrationally.
I must say that this book is a hard read. I am sure that there are many nuances and ideas that I missed along the way. It does take sometime to get accustom to the style of writing since we are some use to the linear approach to reading and seldom do we engage a book written in a poetic or prose structure. I am sure that if I read the book two or three times again, I will find new things that I missed on the first read. This book, in my opinion, is not a book that is written for public consumption, rather I think that this is a niche book and finds a home in the hands of philosophy or religion students who are looking for a challenging yet thought provoking read. For those who might have a hard time understanding the book and the ideas within it, researching the author before reading the book might prove beneficial and add context and background to the readings.
The tone of “If We Must Die” conveys inspiration, while the tone of “Harlem” is frustration which indicates the difference between the poets’ attitudes toward racial oppression. In the first eight lines of “If We Must Die”, the speaker insists on dying nobly. By stressing the last words of these lines: “hogs”, “dogs”, “lot” and “shed”. Readers might experience a strong feeling that the speaker and his allies will die as heroes. The use of an exclamation point in line eight, “Shall be constrained to honor us though dead”, strengthens the speaker’s emotions; it also makes the tone more motivational. Then, there is a dramatic turning point in line nine, “Oh, Kinsmen! We must meet the common foe”. This dramatically changes of the tone making it
The Life of Pi by Yann Martel was a fascinating and exciting narrative that described the journey of a young boys life starting with the formation of his beliefs moving all the way through an adventure that changed his life forever. I found it extremely engaging on both a philosophical level and a psychological level as I saw Pi, a young boy, curious about life, discover both religion and go through an extremely traumatic experience. I found Pi's devotion to God to be an uplifting example that many people throughout the world should see. Although I do believe that Pi was confused about how to best love God, I admire his efforts and believe that his dedication is sincere. I also found the psychological aspect of Pi to be almost as fascinating as religion. I could see from the beginning that Pi was quite thoughtful and always tried to think before he acted. However, what I found even more fascinating than his pre-planning cognitive abilities was how he thought when he was under great stress. Perhaps the best example of how he coped with stress was towards the end of the book when he tells what may be the true story, and we can see that he may have represented everyone as an animal in order to deal with the situation. This provides valuable insight into Pi's mind and opens a whole new area of possibilities when considering how Pi thinks. This ending leaves how Pi thinks open to interpreting which adds a intriguing aspect to the book. Beyond the religious and theoretical aspects of the book, the adventure seen kept me on the edge of my seat until the very end. Every time it seemed Pi was about to die or give up hope, an astounding miracle would suddenly save him. I found the effect of these suspenseful moments to cause me to want to...
