Based on the information I have learned, my experiences and world view affect my understanding and encounters with diverse individuals. In class we have learned that schools have problems with cultural racism. Cultural racism means to have a belief that the cultural values of one group are superior to other cultural groups. In my former high school, there definitely were some issues with cultural racism and there were often some fights that involved with racism slurs and stereotyping; therefore I am very aware of this problem. I also have seen the way others have bullied or stereotyped others based on their cultures. In my former high school there were some students who were Muslim and other students from a different race or culture would make …show more content…
In class we have discussed that it is the teacher’s responsibility to change the structure, practices, and climate of the school and teachers must have the ability to meet any kind of needs of students of different cultures. In class we have also discussed the five basic skills that are necessary for cross- cultural teaching. These five basic skills include awareness and acceptance of differences, self- awareness, dynamics of difference, knowledge of a student’s culture, and adaptation of skills. I believe that it is important to understand a student’s culture and it is important to have knowledge about different culture based on the culture’s beliefs, values, and practices. I have experienced before a teacher who did not understand the students’ cultures. The student got in trouble for talking in class and the teacher told the student that she needed to talk to him after class. When the teacher talked to the student after class, the student kept on looking down at the floor while the teacher was trying to talk to him. The teacher got mad at the student because she thought the student was being disrespectful and was doing this on purpose; however the main reason why the student was looking down at the floor was because his culture believes that
We as educators must always act in the best interests of the children, while we seek to understand and embrace the different cultures by talking, listening and learning from the families and communities that surround us.
The two short stories of “The Tell Tale Heart” and “The Black cat” by renowned author Edgar Allen Poe exemplifies the darkness of what a person can succumb to in certain situations. Both of these marvels share important realizations of thought and subconscious guilt’s. These short stories are used as an example of how two different people in two different situations can have the same reaction in the way of killing someone without remorse. Anger and hatred are major factors in simultaneous tells. The topic for this discussion is to discuss the similarities and differences of these two short stories by Edgar Allen Poe. Could there be more to what actually happens? Do both characters of these stories experience real supernatural events which cause them to lose it or is it a mental reaction which causes the mind to do things that are not
When the majority of teachers in America are White, middle class women who only speak English in a country were students are starting to come from a multitude of backgrounds it is no wonder problems are arising. As more people from different cultures and religions immigrate to the United States the average classroom is losing the cultural uniformity it had in the past. Though the faces in classrooms are steadily changing many teachers have not been able to adjust as quickly to the ever growing diversity taking place. One would expect for teachers to still be able to teach students effectively whether they share a similar background or not, but in actuality cultural conflicts between teachers and students are only getting worse. Especially when
In the stories “The Tell Tale Heart” and “The Black Cat” by Edgar Allen Poe, the true motive or feelings behind the confession of the two narrators are questionable. As the reader, you would believe that with a confession comes true guilt and sorrow for the crime committed, but that is not the case for these two stories, where the narrators are anything but remorseful.
...types about people like themselves, and the message that they are inferior and cannot achieve, and their coming to believe or internalize those stereotypes and messages" (201). This turns into a loss of self-esteem and extreme hatred towards oneself and members of their group. In the school systems, teachers tend to pay less attention to students of color, or else don't encourage them as much as they do the white children. Also, the students themselves can make cruel comments to their peers and all of this can lead to internalized racism. Teachers need to watch their own actions as well as those of their students to make sure this isn't happening. The teachers should accept, learn, and believe the fact that we are all one. There is not two, three, or ten human species, there is one. If this is stressed enough in schools, children can grow up free of racism.
Edgar Allan Poe’s short story “Tell-Tale Heart” has been adapted into many tv shows and movies. For instance, Poe’s story can be seen in an episode of Spongebob Squarepants entitled “Squeaky Boots”. The episode is about Mr.Krabs giving Spongebob a pair of boots that his daughter Pearl did not. Later in the show Mr.Krabs starts to get annoyed with the boots because he constantly hears and sees Spongebob wearing the boots. This causes Mr.Krabs to become obsessed and he sets out in the middle of the night to steal the boots away from Spongebob. Eventually, the plot starts to match up with the story line that Poe had depicted in “Tell-Tale Heart”. After stealing the boots Mr.Krabs decides to hide them within the floorboards of the Krusty Krab, just like in “Tell-Tale Heart” the narrator
tories are set through narrator's eyes and mind; as a result creating different points of view about the narrator and character developed in that the situation .The two stories, “The Tell Tale Heart” by Edgar Allan Poe and “A&P” by John Updike have some kindred attributes and differences in the narration of their stories. “The Tell Tale Heart” was narrated by the story’s murderer, while “A & P” was narrated by Sammy both stories are first person stories but are this narrators reliable.
In numerous short stories, authors use different writing styles to grab a reader’s attention. In Edgar Allan Poe’s short story, “The Tell-Tale Heart”, Poe uses imagery and eccentric language choices to hook the reader into wanting to know more. Poe’s use of these different literary aspects is most clearly seen in the passages where the narrator is describing the old man’s eye. These passages are important because they help the reader empathize with the old man and question why the narrator is so fixated on his eye. Poe includes these passages to show the madness of the narrator and to emphasize the importance of the old man’s eye.
In the short story, Tell Tale Heart, and The Black cat, Poe wrote as an antagonist, and in both of the stories he was insane but claimed he was not because he was smart enough to come up with an elaborate plan. In the Tell Tale Heart, he was a man who was obsessed with this guys eye, and he planned out an elaborate plan to kill him and hide him under the planks of the floor, and claimed since he was so smart to come up with a plan like that, that he wasn’t insane. Poe stated in the Tell Tale Heart, “How, then, am I mad? Hearken! and observe how healthily --how calmly I can tell you the whole story” (1). He thought this and decided that it was justified because he was smart. Their relationships in the story are just an old man that he finds intriguing because of his eye, and they have a trusting relationship because he gives him access to his house while he's sleeping.
Question Answered: Present the ways in which cross-cultural experiences strengthen a continuous development of the world environment.
Guilt. Anxiety. Death. In the short story “The Tell Tale Heart” it states through the story how he plans to kill the old man, how he watches him sleep, and how he planned to dispose of the body. The modern screenplay adaptation shows how his great uncle drives him to insanity, to the point where he goes through this plan to kill his great uncle. “The Tell Tale Heart” is an Edgar Allen Poe short story, and has many differences compared to the modern screenplay adaptation “His Right Eye.” The characters, language, and plot are the main differences in the two, but the theme is the main point that stays the same.
In the deposition, Tell-Tale Heart, the narrator describes his thoughts leading up to, during, and after the murder of the caretaker. I believe my client is not guilty by reason of insanity.
Cultural diversity is in our workplace and schools; we may encounter stereotypes while communicating with others, even though we have different opinions toward other cultural values and beliefs. We can learn from another “culture”, but we have to respect their differences. I think in today society, people are stereotyped others based on their race and social class because we automatically judge another person without knowing them and assume they are a certain way. Everyone is different we identify ourselves with our own social beliefs, religious beliefs and racial traits and should not be judged because we are all different
According to the story, “ Tell Tale Heart” some think it’s not age appropriate for 8th grade students, and some think its is. The Tell Tale Heart is about the narrator being afraid of the old man’s eye. He’s so afraid of his eye, he decide to take the life of the old man. So he kills the old man and hide his body parts under the floor so that no one would know where his body is at. He ends up telling on himself, because he’s so guilty. And In my opinion I strongly believe that the “Tell Tale Heart” is appropriate for 8th grade students.
Is this a mind game? It’s all in your head they say, the power of overthinking will ruin you and lead you to paranoia and insanity. It’s a sad yet devastating reality that many people face with mental illnesses, which takes a toll over their lives and is a cause for their uncontrollable actions. In the article ““the tell tale heart” by Edgar Allan Poe, the narrator is very paranoid and feels that he is being watched yet tries to prove that he is not insane although his actions are strange and out of character and he killed the old man. The narrator is psychotic and tries to prove he’s not by fighting the disease to be free from his mental illness.
