Reflection to Current Culture Paper For my culture paper I decided to write about a film, the film is called “Aqui Entre Nos” (Between Us). Throughout the paper I will discuss how the concepts of family and communication are portrayed in the film. “Aqui Entre Nos” is Mexican comedy yet it also a movie that makes you reflect on life. In the film we are introduced to the Guerra family. The head provider of the family and father of three Rodolfo Guerra, his stay at home wife Miriam Guerra and their three daughter Sofia the oldest , Victoria the middle child and Ana Paula the youngest one. It all start when Rodolfo decided to not go to work one after being fed up with feeling unappreciated by his family. In addition he always has Miriam is his …show more content…
One night Rodolfo overhears Sofia from the attic telling her mother that she is engaged; he is not happy about it but eventually comes to terms and accepts for Sofia to get married. Meanwhile he also tries to connect with his smaller daughter Ana Paula since he has come to realize that his relationship with his older daughter is non-existing. Eventually the family finds out that he has been staying in the attic and Miriam allows for him to move back into the guest room. They agree that he will live there until Sofia’s wedding day. During this time he begins to work on the leaks of the house and restores the house for Sofia’s wedding, meanwhile both Miriam and Rodolfo seem to miss each other and find connections again yet they don’t admit it to each other as well they both stop seeing their lovers. The day of the wedding comes and Rodolfo keeps his word and moves out to his own apartment. The divorce also goes through although it seemed they both new they were making the wrong decision. In the end Rodolfo gains the courage to take serenade to Miriam and they get together again. Sofia ends up getting the blessing from her parents to get married, Victoria gets a scholarship to go study journalism abroad and Ana Paula has gained more attention from both her parents. Rodolfo finds the perfect job that pays well and Miriam comes to feel like more than just a house wife, also they do end up …show more content…
The book defines communication as a message one person sends and another receives. (Intimate Relationships, Marriages & Families, 2011) I refer communication with the film because there were a lot of instances where issues could have been resolved if the family was able to communicate better. There were moments where the characters could have felt that they were communicating, but they might not have been doing so effectively. Some good examples were Miriam complaining about things not getting done around the house or complaining about Rodolfo wage not being enough. Rodolfo heard her complains but did not care to take action because of the way that Miriam was communicating her wants or needs. With this scenario Miriam got Rodolfo into combative listening. He didn’t care to take action into her complains as he felt she didn’t work and the little money extra they had she would spend it going out with her friends. In return this would make the situation worse because Miriam would feel as if her feelings were being ignored when the communication was not being addressed right. Towards the end of the movie when they both want the relationship to work they listen and communicate more effectively about their wants and needs. With the ability to work on their listening and communication skills as well as having more empathy for each other Miriam and Rodolfo were able to give their relationship
It is not all about communication” . It says that not surprisingly those couples who reported communicating more effectively showed the highest satisfaction with their relationships. But the next two reasons which were also the only other ones with strong links to couple happiness, were knowledge of partner which included everything from knowing their pizza-topping preferences to their hopes and dreams and life skills like being able to hold a job, manage money, etc . But in order to have a healthy relationship I do believe that the communication is key but they also do need to know how to communicate in a healthy way that will not cause
McEwan begins the chapter with a quote from Convey (1990), “Seek first to understand, then to be understood.” This quote speaks to the importance of communication because it describes the importance of
This novel is a story of a Chicano family. Sofi, her husband Domingo together with their four daughters – Esperanza, Fe, Caridad, and Loca live in the little town of Tome, New Mexico. Her marriage is deteriorating; her daughters are dying one by one. But, she endures it all and comes out stronger and more enlightened than ever. Sofi is a woman that never gives up no matter how poorly life treats her. The author- Ana Castillo mixes religion, super natural occurrences, sex, laughter and heartbreak in this novel. The novel is tragic, with no happy ending but at the same time funny and inspiring. It is full of the victory of the human spirit. The names of Sofi’s first three daughters denote the three major Christian ideals (Hope, Faith and Charity).
In 1988, the film Mujeres al Borde de un Ataque de Nervios by Pedro Almodóvar was released into the theaters. The film shed a new light on feminism and postmodernism throughout the film by the different kind of love life shown through the two main characters Pepa and Ivan (Farrán, 2010). Instead of this film being another romantic love story with ending in the main couple being in love there were a few plot twists throughout the film. The movie centers around one main character named Pepa. Pepa was impacted throughout the story by the other main characters, her environment around her and the core issues throughout the story.
Communications generally occur in body languages: how the individuals interpret each other. Her essay is an event that is reoccurring more and more lately. The event results in a failure in marriage. In today’s society more and more people are splitting up or having divorces due to miscommunications. The essay, “Sex, Lies and Conversation,” that Deborah Tannen wrote is much use of today because it explains where miscommunications happen and she has her own studies and research to back it up. The essay goes into depth about her ideologies that cause miscommunications. Look at a miscommunication twice and do not be quick to judge because it will save plenty of
Since the creation of films, their main goal was to appeal to mass audiences. However, once, the viewer looks past the appearance of films, the viewer realizes that the all-important purpose of films is to serve as a bridge connecting countries, cultures, and languages. This is because if you compare any two films that are from a foreign country or spoken in another language, there is the possibility of a connection between the two because of the fact that they have a universal understanding or interpretation. This is true for the French New Wave films Contempt and Breathless directed by Jean-Luc Godard, and contemporary Indian films Earth and Water directed by Deepa Mehta. All four films portray an individual’s role in society, using sound and editing.
There are thousands of scenes from movies and television shows that represent important communicative acts. In this particular case study, I will take two scenes of my choosing, one that shows miscommunication and one that shows successful communication, and explain what happens in them through the lens of human communication, using key terms and concepts that I’ve learned in class. The first scene I’ll examine is from the Nick Cassavetes-directed film John Q, and the scene is an example of successful communication.
Overall, it is quite clear why any story, no matter the content, must have a series of communication, or lack of, between the characters. It allows them to scheme against each other, to plot both harmful and good intentions and to allow the drama to spread amongst themselves. However, it’s a common misconception that these things must always be bad. After all, isn’t this the way the plot thickens, how the authors are so easily able capture your attention and perhaps most importantly, how they keep your eyes burning for more.
As a result of Cecilia’s suicide, the neighbours begin to place blame on the Lisbon parents, which then causes them to feel frustrated and hopeless. As the neighborhood boys interview Mrs. Buell, they learn that she believes

Communication is a flow of verbal and nonverbal details. Having communication helps everyone have interaction with others. With interactions with others we build relationships, and with communication, we can either build a stronger relationship or break it with either negative or positive
...ating information if necessary. Good communication is the key to a good relationship. When we communicate better with our friends, family, and colleagues, we are able to better understand what they want and need. Vice versa, our friends, family, and colleagues are able to better understand what we want and need. “By continually communicating and emphasizing the need for effective communication, managers can improve their communication skills and, ultimately, do a better job for the organization,” (Phillips, 1998).
Communication is important in relationships as it allows us to share our interest, concerns, support each other; organize our lives and make decisions; and it allows us to work together. Effective communication is based on the way we talk and listen, how we respond and our body language. We can all learn how to improve the way we communicate.
In the past decade, there were a lot of people would like to explore about what is gender and how can gender connect with the film. Normally film is someway people could express their own idea of everything in life and use different methods to represent in film.( ) For example the film I would like to discuss here is The Darkest Hour(2017), which shows the culture and language in 1940 that filmmakers always be the masculinity and hardly talked about femininity.
