The world of the written is a place where anything can happen. A mother and daughter could set warring worlds to rest with but an utterance. Dragons could sweep down from the heavens and set ablaze to all in sight. Our entire world could simply be the imagination of a divine being, and all of our lives naught under its eye. These endless possibilities are the reason I wish to further my studies and writing ability with a creative writing course so that I might someday hear my stories told.
All throughout my life I have been writing stories and telling tales to friends and family. One of my major influences was my grandfather, who told me at a young age: “You can never have enough books” It’s true. Although you may run out of space on your shelves there is no end to the emotions and feelings that a book can portray. I am currently undertaking a writing course online to write stories for children, which will take up a majority of my time when I’m not studying and gaming. The course has given me an insight on the processes which writers undertake when deciding on how to write a story. I feel that it will be an excellent companion to the lectures, and classes which university have to offer.

Since my birth I have been attending events, and since the age of 8 I have aided local clubs with general aid but also as a secondary mechanic as I have grown older. Last year I flew out to Germany with Crash! and Burn! (The resident clubs for Southport) for an international event which later lead to the World Wheelchair Rugby Challenge in London. Of which I aided the setup and helped the teams with preparation of their space and attend with minor medical issues. I am a known face within the community and am well known to always lend a hand wherever
The very first chapter we read of Mindful Writing changed my perspective to see that anyone and everyone can be a writer. Brian Jackson, the author of Mindful Writing, wrote, “In this book I want to convince you that anyone writing anything for any reason is a writer…Writing is not something we do just in school. It is a vital means of influence in all facets of life.” It was through that very first reading that I began to think about writing as more than just a dreaded part of school, and I began to think of myself as more than just a student forced to write. Our very first assignment, My Writing Story, helped me to reflect on my identity as a writer. I realized that I was a writer every time I wrote in my journal or captioned an Instagram post. Throughout the semester, as I came to love writing more with each paper I wrote, I was able to create my identity as a writer. I learned that I loved research and analyzing others’ thoughts and ideas, but that writing simply on my own opinions, wasn’t my favorite past time. Through the countless readings this semester, I saw which writing styles I loved and which didn’t speak to me. Each day of class, I chipped away at creating my identity as a writer, and I’m grateful for the lessons that helped me shape and realize that
The authors of this article discuss using a strategy for writing called the open-mind portrait technique. Most commonly, this technique is used to help students as they begin to craft narrative text, but in this case, the authors recognize that this technique can be a used to improve student’s expository writing skills; skills which become increasingly critical through middle and high school and finally into higher education and in most careers. Writing is a process I’ve grown to despise. Ever since grade school, I’ve had problems trying to express my ideas on paper. My writing process involves thinking about what’s being asked and trying to reflect my thoughts the best way I can on paper, but my thoughts don’t always come out as clear as I want them to be sometimes leaving a question not fully answered. My writing process isn’t a consistent set in stone process, but since being in ENC 1101 I always follow some of the same parameters such as revising my drafts, grammar usage and considering context and audience.
A successful writer is he who is able to transmit ideas, emotions, and wisdom on to his readers. He is cable of stirring emotions and capturing the reader's attention with vivid descriptions and clever dialogues. The writer can even play with the meanings of words and fuse reality with fiction to achieve his goal of taking the reader on a wonderful journey. His tools are but words, yet the art of writing is found in the use of the language to create though-provoking pieces that defy the changing times. Between the lines, voices and images emerge. Not everyone can write effectively and invoke these voices. It is those few who can create certain psychological effects on the reader who can seize him (or her) with inspiring teachings, frightening thoughts, and playful games with the language. Anyone who is doing any type of writing piece has a process. They may not know it but it is there and it exists. It is one’s approach to their piece and how they go about accomplishing it. It has to do with how you write it, how many drafts you do, as well as your revision process if you even have one. My writing process however has room for improvement. A summation of my writing process consist of heavy planning, one draft, and little revisions. Anne Lamott, Shirley Rose, and Kathleen Yancey all drew attention to major points through their writing pieces that support and dispute my writing process. In summarizing the exercises, I found three commonalities that simulate creativity in the workplace: ask lots of questions, just start working and come up with as many ideas as possible. There are a lot more lessons that I have learned, but I believe that these are the most important. If I am able to implement these ideas into my work, creativity will flow into my projects and help me produce creative content essential to my campaigns.
Writing papers and calculating math equations are simple for me, but when it comes to hand drawing and writing stories; things get tricky. In my conceptual storytelling class, I learned how to write scripts, short stories, and fairytales. The class and the teacher were great, and the class environment was calm. The hardest part in the class was toning down my own creation, “Space Cops”. My own creation was tough to incorporate in the class because it’s a very long story.

I feel as though this class has helped me become a more polished and professional writer. When I first entered English 110, I was extremely unsure and lacked confidence in my writing. I believe that this point can be partly attributed to the fact that I had always had my instructors holding my hand and helping me through the writing process in high school. My senior English teacher always reminded us that college would be much more challenging than her class was and then she would go on to tell us stories of professors who gave out zeros for tiny oversights within a paper. Although there are many things that I savor doing in my everyday life, crafting narratives is what brings me the most happiness. I have been writing since my youth; it is both an outlet for my ideas and a path towards my development. Writing fiction brings me joy in that it allows me to use my imagination to express myself to my fullest potential, it allows me to be able to connect to people from all walks of life, and it gives me a sense of accomplishment, as well as a brief realization of my dreams Crafting narratives is much more than the application of pen to paper. As a writer, I struggled my first semester, which took a huge toll on my excitement for both English and writing. Although, I came to realize that with a little help, proofreading, and editing (several times), I was able to generate a well-written essay or at best an average one. Regardless of my poor start, I continued to appreciate my love of English language arts courses. I was blown away by all the juicy classical literature and landmark poems I was able to read and comprehend. I loved all of my classes in college, and I honestly enjoyed the readings! There is so much that can be learned from examining literature and research. Without having read and wrote countless assignments about various topics, novels, poems, and more, I do not believe I would still be motivated to become a high school English teacher and literature professor. My love of reading is a love that I hope will be contagious enough for my future students to capture and spread. In the meanwhile, my continuous love of the Brothers Grimm Tales has inspired a concentration in Children’s literature for my second master’s degree, and I am almost positive that I have conjured a snippet of my future dissertation as well from observations in select
We have read a number of short stories now in various genres. In order to truly understand literature, you need to write as well as read. For your Learning Journal you will write one short story from any of the genres we have covered (or will cover) this term. This is your chance to write a complete work of original fiction.
I believe that writing stories gives you more of an appreciation and understanding for a good book. All of the ideas that make a book come alive is from one author with an amazing imagination, who can captivate someone’s mind and tuck them into their world for a few hours. Every day in class I was allowed one hour to dedicate my time into a story, it is almost like entering your main character’s mind and acting as if it was you.
The nonfiction genre allows the reader and writer to learn about a topic they particularly enjoy or one that they know nothing about. I learned that the nonfiction genre can become an enjoyable, hands-on experience. Our classroom environment opened my eyes to various ways to have a writer make nonfiction writing their own. Writer’s have the ability to find a topic they want to learn more about and it gives them an outlet to teach others. Student are able to use prior knowledge to develop an idea about a certain topic and create a piece with factual information. I learned that factual information can easily sound like it comes straight out of a textbook, but after learning about the different ways it relates
