Last Semester I taught for an after school program called Mad Science. Once a week I would go to the school and give the students a science lesson on a subject. The four features that Posner uses in his book include the teacher or teachers, the learner or the students, the subject matter, and the context. In the situation that I described I was the teacher; I was teaching the students the lesson that was planned out for them. I had about 10 to 20 students per class these students were the learners. I taught students from different backgrounds. One day out of the week I would go to a school where the students were all third graders and the next day I would go to a school where the students were in grades first through fourth. By teaching at these different schools it gave me a good range of learners. I had to adapt to both situations and change my lesson plan to better fit each classroom. Reflection in teaching is important because as a teacher you should want to make sure you are making the best choices for your students learning. By giving yourself time to reflect it will allow you to come up with fresh learning ideas to implicate into your lesson plan. Posner says that reflection allows a teacher to see things from a student’s point of view which allows them to better understand the situation. Teachers can become more reflective by using a daily or weekly log. The log will allow teachers to write down an experience that they had and can later reflect on the situation.

Reflective practice using critical reflection will allow the practitioners to identify what they do well and what they need to improve on within their Early Years settings. Going into this course, I felt that the reading and writing skills I learned in high school were very beneficial in preparing me for an English college course. In high school, I was enrolled in GATE and AP English courses. In these classes, I was assigned several readings and was taught to actively read by doing annotations. I was to summarize the writer 's main points, to write down my own opinions, or to connect it to any personal experiences. These annotations helped me understand the writer 's message better because I was able to break down the things the writer said and only focused on the important points. Then, I was also able to form my own opinion on that topic by deciding whether I agreed or disagreed with the author’s opinion. Moreover, I used evidence from the text to support my argument.
Going into English 1301, I expected the class to be difficult but also a substantial learning experience. Not only have I found connections within each of the essays I have written, but additionally have become more engaged in critical thinking and collaborative work. Within the syllabus, we were given concepts that we ,as students, needed to meet by the end of the course. I have met the student learning outcomes throughout this course as shown through all three essays.

My RIP companion essay was a complete mess with no structure in the first draft. I believe it was because I had procrastinated to complete both the first drafts for the RIP project and essay. I finished my RIP project then moved on to my companion essay, and the transition was vastly different because in the RIP project I was writing for a different audience than in the companion essay, which was an academic audience. Over the course of the semester, I feel that I have grown as a writer in many ways. When I came into the class, there were skills I had that I already excelled at. During my time in class, I have come to improve on those skills even more. Before I took this class I didn’t even realise what I was good at. This is the first class where I felt I received feedback on my writing that helped me to actually review my work in see what areas I lacked in and where I succeeded. Some of the skills I had shocked me as I didn’t think I had those capabilities in me.
Teaching is a very difficult thing for some people to do. When I look at a teacher that has made a good lasting impression on me, I appreciate their desire to help kids that go through their classroom door, just like my 6th grade teacher Mrs. Enberg. She made a difference in my life by teaching me respect for people in authority over me and that there are consequences for my actions. One common characteristic that she shared with Hattie M. The intention of reflective practice is to help the teacher/learning coach evolve and develop the quality of their teaching by the continuation of personal development. Although most teachers have done this for years, reflective modelling or methods have formulized a structure which can be followed and adapted to best suit their methods. It is an ongoing process which takes feelings and emotions into consideration and so it will not always have a definitive answer/ending. Since most models of reflection require subjective and objective thinking then there is a willingness to be honest to engage constant self appraisal. It asks that the teacher become flexible analytical and socially aware when addressing their chosen model of reflection.
In this course I experienced an important change in my beliefs about teaching; I came to understand that there are many different theories and methods that can be tailored to suit the teacher and the needs of the student. (2007), and Whitton, D., Barker, K., Nosworthy, M., Sinclair, C., Nanlohy, P. (2010), have helped me to understand this in particular. In composing my essay about teaching methods and other themes, my learning was solidified, my knowledge deepened by my research and my writing skills honed.
We spoke about the children in the classroom who have personalities and learning styles that are unique to them. Building a relationship with each child, gives her the opportunity to gain the necessary knowledge to create lesson plans that are relatable to their personalities and learning styles. Much like Benjamin Franklin believed, I feel that a person should take advantage of the time the person has in life with activities a person wants to do or needs to do. A person should not spend much time on activities the person does not want to do. Life is way too short to concern oneself with work or other activities one wants nothing to do with all the time. When possible, I try to forget about my responsibility and just let go of the ‘things’ that do not matter to me. I think a person should try to occupy oneself with something productive, worthwhile, or necessary at all times. Even though a person’s life is left up to a person to live, I cannot imagine thinking that I owe my time to society through working a job that I simply despise. I am a compassionate person, but I do not owe anyone anything regarding my time.
