Conducting Reflection This past semester’s experience conducting has proven to be beneficial for my skills on and off the podium. I learned through practicing and class meetings how to make my mind and hands independent from each other. Going into the class, my primary fear was separating the lead hand from the other. The exercises with dynamics and practicing them separately made the desired independence come naturally to me. It is still not where I would like it, but dynamic control has definitely improved throughout the semester. I would prefer to work on my cues and discover different ways of giving them to the musicians. Although I struggled at first, my ability to become conscious of the entire ensemble did improve. However, my self-efficacy for living on the podium fluctuates like a swinging pendulum. I could be confident in what I ‘m doing one day, when on the next I quiver from anticipation of not giving it my all. Self-efficacy for conducting isn’t something I have much of, but maybe that’s because of my relative freshness to the idea of communicating music to my own ensemble. We had the opportunity to conduct six times this semester and each occasion compelled me to be ecstatic for the chance at improvement, but still convinced my anxiety to rise. I take a positive view on how the opportunity will be presented, but an improvement is still necessary for dismissing my nerves and promising myself that I will enjoy the music being created. Taking time before each piece to close mine and even the musician’s eyes would have an immense impact, allowing my passion to overwhelm the fear of failure at the podium. This is my objective for next semester’s class and something I’ll have to work

During a musical performance many elements to be looked are not easily recognized by the average critic. A musical performance has multiple interactions taking place between the music, text, performers, audience, and space that all can contribute to a great performance. Overwhelming majority of the audience does not realize so much can be looked at during a single performance. At a performance by the University of Maryland Marching Band I was able to analyze the Musical Sound, Contexts of the Performance, and Interpretation of the Performance.
Performing or public speaking of any kind is difficult, but that difficulty can help to build confidence. Fine arts gives students the ability to perform and build confidence with their own support team of people who do and love the same thing. Not having to perform alone and knowing that everything possible has been done to ensure a good performance helps performers be confident in themselves and in their abilities. “Puneet Jacob, former choristers and current assistant conductor, says kids are often afraid to perform because of fear of failure.” (Lefebvre) The more a person faces their fear, especially when they do well and the fear is disproved, the less afraid he or she will become. When students work on music or a play for months on end, they become much more confident in themselves and what they can do than they were when they first began.
My sixteen week class in English 111. I was really nervous about this class. Because English has never been my strong point. This class has hard, but fun all at the same time. I learn a lot from this class. Meanwhile,the first day of class you handed a paper with a question on it. “The first thing I want to say to you who are students is that you must not think of being here to receive an education; instead, you will do much better to think of being here to claim one.” Even though putting my all in what I have learned, claiming my education with hard work because using the skills of the meal plan, as we write to different audiences and learning to be a Critically thinker as I start becoming a critically-Literate Citizenship.
My nephew Jaden Hopkins drove my inspiration for this particular case. Jaden was diagnosed with lead poisoning, which led to many of his psychological, developmental and physical disabilities. Jaden lives his life in the shadows. His lack of communication has made it extremely difficult to understand what is going on, how he is feeling, or the treatment he receives from others. It wasn’t until I noticed his reaction to music that I have begun to better understand him. As he jumped up and down off beat to the music I have begun to notice how happy and free he became, it was almost as if I was looking at a completely different person. Watching Jaden evolve helped me to recognize the healing aspects of movement from a different perspective. I was fortunate to be able to share this intent with my advisor Holly Boda- Sutton. I would like to start this paper by saying what a great piece of literature it is. When I started reading this book, I finished it in one day for the simple fact that I could not put it down. This book gave me a whole new view of life and how sacred it is. It also taught me how to not live my life in fear of dying, but embrace death while living. Of the many lessons, the one that reached out a grabbed my mind along with my heart was the lesson on emotion. In this paper, my goal is to reflect this lesson of Professor Morrie Schwartz to all who read my work. I will do this by first stating the main points given by a dying man on emotions and how we should absorb them every day and continue with my own personal experience of his words.
During my professional development I was mostly taught manager skills, specifically obtaining knowledge how to arrange musical experiences. However standing in the front of the ensemble requires you to be a little bit more than that. To be a conductor is not only defining the tasks, it is also a lot about the human factor. I am confident that the understanding manager and leader skills and blending them will help me to become a better conductor.
At first I thought this was not a big deal, but I have learned from my research that it actually is. According to Dao (n.d), “self-confidence is the fundamental basis from which leadership grows.” By recognizing and acknowledging my level of confidence, I can take actions and develop skills to become more confident which will help me in leading project teams. I know that before I can be successful at leading others, I first need to become better at leading myself. Increasing my self-confidence will increase my motivation because I will have the confidence I need to go after my goals. Working in groups is challenging at times. Other times it is very rewarding. We are so focused on life that we do not take time to reflect on things as much as we should. Being in a Groups class has opened my eyes to a whole new world. I have begun to question, explore, and even understand how things work. I even get how they work sometimes. Not only is there a process involved in making individual decisions, process is involved in group decisions as well. This paper attempts give insight into my reflection of my group decision process.
I will improve my public presentation over the summer by involving myself in at least three coaches meetings by the end of the summer. I will involve myself through presenting rules education material with the Compliance Department. My supervisor has offered the chance to do so and attaining this goal will help me become comfortable speaking in front of groups of people and help in reaching my goal of supervising an Academic Department for athletics.
I attended a concert that was a piano trio. The instruments were obviously a piano, a cello, and a violin. The concert was done by two adults and one student. The student played the cello. The concert was held here on Oklahoma State's campus at Willard Hall. The room it was held in was a relatively small room. It wasn't a real concert hall it was more of a small kind of parlor room. Piano trios are meant for smaller audiences, so it worked out well. There was about 30 people in the room attending the performance. The music played was from different musical areas. The smaller setting made it easier to focus on the musicians and what all they were doing when playing these songs.

I will fund my exhibit through donations and sales. I would reach out to the community, explain my exhibit and ask for donations, but I would primarily generate revenue through selling items related to the exhibit like prints of the works being shown, creative posters, key chains, t-shirts and other mementos. Additionally, I would have bake sales and fairs and other activities of a similar nature.
One of the areas that I am working on still is establishing in-charge authoritative presence in the classroom. I have a soft voice and it is limiting me to have the full charge and control of the classroom. I need to practice to have a strong voice and keep practice authoritative presences in the classroom.
