As the term comes to an end, I look back on my accomplishments in this class. ENG101A was the toughest and most challenging class I have taken, but I really feel like it has helped me to improve as a writer. I never expected that I would take another English class in my life, let alone go back to college. When I thought of English as a subject, I associated it with reading books or poems about subjects I never cared about or had a desire to write about. I always liked the creative writing sense, but in earlier studies one rarely get to do what one want in career life. I feel that has changed for me in this class. Perhaps it’s been so long since I’ve had a creative outlet to channel thoughts and create something from nothing. I feel that this class has provided me with a boat and compass to navigate the oceans of my college career and develop the skills necessary for me to excel in writing.
I thought my writing before this class was satisfactory to my designation and work. I had attended college and worked in past. During this semester, I realized that I have breezed over many parts of the writing process in the past. I believe that since this class has begun, I have found my voice in writing and allowed it to speak clearly on the subjects we were instructed to discuss. My grammar and punctuation rules were rusty
I love to use big words and give my readers very detailed descriptions, in hopes that they will be able to picture what I am saying. I also am very attentive to my words and try to use a variety of adjectives so I do not sound repetitive. Writing has always been very natural to me and words just pop into my head when I sit down to write. Unfortunately, this sometimes gives me a tendency to ramble. I like to think I am a credible source in my writing because I always check my facts to be sure that my content is true and
My development as a writer has flourished throughout this semester. The first week of this fall semester started out with writing responses from our readings in the textbook. Looking back through and analyzing my reading responses at the semester to now; I noticed a substantial improvement in not only my grammar skills, but also my summarizing, and in-depth studying of writing adeptness. Another way I have progressed this semester is the vocabulary of my writing has significantly improved and become more scholarly. Another advancement I noticed was that the content of my work has matured, along with my organizational adeptness.
In fact, I began this semester with plans to accomplish skills that would eventually bring me to an understanding of what a great writer is. During the summer I attended an English mini course which proved to be just a quick version of some high school rules on writing, that did not require much thinking or writing tasks, but it did provide an understanding of what was going to be expected in colle...
English 101 is one of the most common college courses in the world. When I enrolled in the class, I was bothered that I would have spend forty hours in a freshman writing class; along with at least another forty hours throughout the semester writing for the class. What surprised me, was that when I began writing my essays I was not annoyed or bothered; I actually enjoyed the assignments. Most importantly, throughout the course of the semester, I have become a better writer and have ultimately met the course goals of English 101.
In general, I like this course because it taught me a lot of great things, such as how to revise the essay in order to make it better. My writing has improved a lot throughout this year, I learned how to organize my essay’s structure, using the transition sandwich to perfect my writing. In the future, I hope to continue developing all the skills that I learned in this English class, and I will continue to go to the Writing Center to ask for help to perfect my writing. However, it is the end of the year, but it does not mean that this is the end of my writing.
I came into this class under the impression that I already wrote well enough and wouldn’t need to improve. However, as I progressed through the semester I learned that there is always room to grow. The first paper I produced was not at the level I was hoping but after I actively decided to improve my writing my papers became much better. Looking back on my work in the class I wonder how much my writing has changed and where I still have room to improve. Without evaluating my work I can’t hope to become any better. Through this class I have grown much as a writer but there is still more I can learn.
As the first semester of my sophomore year wraps up, I begin to realize that I have learned a lot in all of my classes. The class that I learned the most from has definitely been my English 111 course. This class have given me so many opportunities to improve my writing skills. With all of the success I’ve had in this class, I believe I will do just fine with writing later in my life.
Writing can be very frustrating; laying your ideas out on paper so that others can grasp the concept you are trying to convey is a very difficult task. In Writing 101 I have learned how to formulate good theses that are arguable and also how to validate articles that have to do with my topic. The most important element of a paper is the thesis statement. It captures the reader's attention and tells them what the essay is about. Having a well-structured thesis along with evidence to support that thesis are the main ingredients to a well-written essay. I have also learned how important it is to research an author’s background to ensure their credibility. This is a very important step in writing because today we can find information on a topic, however, it is not valid. Throughout this semester I have learned many ways of writing through two main essays literacy narrative and comparison and contrast. These two essays have taught me how to correctly fix my comma splices, thesis statements, and capitalization. I have engaged in numerous learning material during this summer class. Many times when I thought it would be hard to work on those three developments I never gave up. I gain more positive feedback from my teacher because he pointed out most of my mistakes I made on both literacy narrative and comparison and contrast essays to help me understand what is it that I need to work on. My development as a writer became stronger.
Hoping for the best but expecting the worst, I walked in to English not knowing what to expect. English 111 was boring at times but in many ways helpful. College Composition I main objective is to teach students the fundamentals of academic writing and critical thinking. Aside from learning how to academically write, recognizing grammatical errors, tone, and different styles such as MLA, APA, and CMS, are some other things learned in the course. This essay will be evaluating the book as a whole, self-reflections, essays, my strengths and weaknesses and my professor.
This semester was my first semester as a college student. Taking your college Writing 1 course to start off my education at Kent State allowed me to gain a basis for the next four years of my college career. Throughout high school I did not enjoy writing and to be honest I still do not take delight in writing, but your style of teaching has allowed me to see writing in a new perspective. I am relieved to have started my first English class with an instructor who shares their patience and extensive knowledge in a constructive environment.
Before this class, I never thought I was a good writer. I never put much thought or effort into any type of English work. I was always good at answering short answer response questions because I got my point across in a timely fashion. Reading wasn’t my strong point, so over this past semester I have point a huge emphasis on my reading and writing skills, hoping that before I headed off to college I would learn these crucial parts of English. I took this class to improve my writing, reading, grammar, and thinking skills to become a better all around student. College English has done a great job of getting me ready for the real deal college classes. I now understand what it takes to write a good college level paper, and how much work and effort I have to put forth to reach my goals in life.
In summary, I had an enjoyable time in my first college English class. I pushed myself as diligently as I could and learned much more than I thought I would. In addition to, my strengths grew stronger and my weaknesses improved as well. I acknowledge I still have some techniques and skills to work on; however, I am willing to put the time in and cannot wait to take English in the future. This class has been significantly more difficult than any other English class I have taken all throughout high school. This semester, I have been introduced to different styles of writing that I have never been exposed to before. This class has been stressful, but also fun. With using all of the resources I have been given throughout the semester, I have been able to do my best to further my writing abilities and hopefully only continue to grow them as I finish my later years in college. Throughout this essay, I will discuss my failures, my successes, my overall performance in the class, and my skill development skills.
Over the course of the semester, I feel that I have grown as a writer in many ways. When I came into the class, there were skills I had that I already excelled at. During my time in class, I have come to improve on those skills even more. Before I took this class, I didn’t even realise what I was good at. This is the first class where I felt I received feedback on my writing that helped me to actually review my work to see what areas I lacked in and where I succeeded.
I feel as though this class has helped me become a more polished and professional writer. When I first entered English 110, I was extremely unsure and lacked confidence in my writing. I believe that this point can be partly attributed to the fact that I had always had my instructors holding my hand and helping me through the writing process in high school. My senior English teacher always reminded us that college would be much more challenging than her class was and then she would go on to tell us stories of professors who gave out zeros for tiny oversights within a paper. This combined with general apprehension about college life left me terrified. I had always been a strong writer in high school; I know how to form an argument and support
