As this term comes to a close, I cannot believe who much I have gained in this course. A vast amount of valuable information has been uncovered in the course and to my surprise more than I taught I would gather. This course in my opinion is one of the foundational blocks that will enhance my overall learning and writing abilities as I move forward to earning my degree. Overall, this course has been a great refresher in improving my writing skills.
In this essay I will provide a reflective overview, an assessment of my experience in the writing process. I will provide a detail description of how I have become more aware of what I am writing about and how the overall experience has allowed my writing skills to evolve. I will further explain the writing areas of the writing components needed to produce the proper essay. In addition, you will also provide an analysis of the writing process with examples of how this process assisted the completion of my narrative and persuasive essays.

Here I was asked to check the readability of the essay to ensure several important aspects were in order. I needed to confirm my essay was easy to read, would the essay be clearly understood, was it well organized, and does it have the use of proper grammar? Additionally, the use of clarity in the overall tone of the essay needed to be established as well. Did my essay properly communicate the ideas clearly? Did it flow well? Upon turning in my final draft there was a level of nervousness, nonetheless, I was pleased with the outcome. Professor Barker has given me great feedback and has boosted my confidence and she stated the following, “You have solid information and you know how to use that evidence and integrate it into your own arguments (which is a challenging
Another thing that I learned from taking this course is how to build a better writing and reading skills. Acknowledging reading and writing skills will help me to succeed in my other university courses.
This assignment is a testament of growth and contributed to my outlook on strategies towards improving my writing through the importance of understanding how crucial, each component of the writing process is and how in depth you should take each process. Lastly, this reflection advocated how editing is the principal task of every good writer. “To write is human, to edit is divine,” Stephen
As a student, I have learned many different skills that I will take with me throughout my journey from this course. We have traversed many different types of writing styles, which any college student, or any person for that
This class was far more intense than what I expected but I was able to make it through the semester. I learned a lot from this class that I will carry into the future and use in other classes. All of the revision and feedback I have received during the time in the class helped me in the end. I feel like I am gradually becoming a better writer. I will take everything that I have learned in this class and use it for future reference when writing papers. I overall have enjoyed this class this semester.
Throughout this course, we had multiple assignments that were aimed at improving us as writers. I am sure that everyone took something different from this course, and I am sure that each student took more from some areas than others; however for me there were three major things that I saw that I benefited from most. Our weekly craft lessons, grammar plan, but most of all, observational learning. Our weekly craft lessons have introduced us to multiple writing strategies. These strategies have helped turn my papers from elementary papers that were written below my expected grade level to papers more on par with my peers.
There are various ways writers can evaluate their techniques applied in writing. The genre of writing about writing can be approached in various ways – from a process paper to sharing personal experience. The elements that go into this specific genre include answers to the five most important questions who, what, where, and why they write. Anne Lamott, Junot Diaz, Kent Haruf, and Susan Sontag discuss these ideas in their individual investigations. These authors create different experiences for the reader, but these same themes emerge: fears of failing, personal feelings toward writing, and most importantly personal insight on the importance of writing and what works and does not work in their writing procedures.
Unit 1 taught me to focus on each step in the writing process. Approaching the task
The assignment encourages you to write as a critical thinker. In writing an essay with an attention of an audience you need to evaluate your ideas—the thesis of your essay—and support them with appropriate evidence—your personal story. Credibility is also important in an essay and by examining the relationship among language knowledge and power the writer make the essay stronger. We also have to be able to write as a researcher, understand how to write an essay in MLA language and appropriate style. In addition to all the foregoing, with the peer review we understand the writing process, critical revision, and drafting.
One would have not known much about how to write an effective essay until they have clearly edited their previously written essay during the Expository Writing Stations. Anyone who has looked over their writing multiple times and has found ways to enhance and professionalize it will learn to write in a more clear and concise manner than they had done before. The Expository Writing Stations has helped change the students’ understanding of how to write a proper essay by having the the students edit and review one another’s essays, finding some things that they should have put on their own essay to help enhance the writing. Students also find out about what components of their writing sounds and looks clear, and how their writing could have developed. Their understanding of using correct, accurate word choice and evidence has evolved. The following examples of reflections show how one has thoroughly understood the insufficient parts of their essay and
Writing is an important part of everyone’s life, whether we use it in school, in the workplace, as a hobby or in personal communication. It is important to have this skill because it helps us as writers to express feelings and thoughts to other people in a reasonably permanent form. Formal writing forms like essays, research papers, and articles stimulates critically thinking. This helps the writer to learn how to interpret the world around him/her in a meaningful way. In college, professors motivate students to write in a formal, coherent manner, without losing their own voice in the process. Improving your writing skills is important, in every English class that’s the main teaching point; to help students improve their writing skills. Throughout my college experience I have acknowledge that
I have learned many things throughout the course of the term, including such things as: how to write an essay and how to improve on essays that I have already written, how to locate and composite better research through the use of numerous resources found at the campus library, the internet, and the “Common Sense” textbook, how to cite research, examples, and quotations properly within the contents of my research paper as well as document it accurately according to MLA standards. Through the exploration of the “Subjects and Strategies” textbook, I have learned nine different methods used when writing an effective essay and how the different writing styles affect the overall theme and tone of the essay when used properly. This past semester, I have encountered many difficulties when trying to write these essays, but through the use of the textbooks, the aide of the instructor, and once I was able to classify the different types of essays and styles, I found them possible to overcome.
In the beginning of this course everything took me triple the time from start to finish than it does now. If you would had me do an essay in the short amount of time that I am doing my final in I would have tapped out. This class has improved my writings, but I still have much to learn as a writer. In time with instruction and practice I will be an accomplished writer.
It is my belief that through this class and the tools provided, that my growth as a writer has grown through leaps and bounds I would never have assumed possible. It is not so much the skill I refer to, although I would think skill has gone up in some levels as well, but more so the appreciation for the craft of writing itself. Intially, at the start of this class my sole goal was to further my understanding and appreciation of the writer's and books that I so love to read. Through further evaluation within the first week, a few other goals came to mind, of which were making writing a habit, finishing what I start, stop second guess my writing skills and making effective use of detail and describtion. Through use of the many articles, various
As I reflect back on these last eight weeks of class in this semester, I’ve to realize that a writing process is an art form, depictions of words in expression of emotion creating words in actions to reveal the elements of visual images, storytelling. I've also learned to become a good writer you must challenge your confidence in your individual creative mind, first by brainstorming a topic of discussion, analyze in structure viewpoints of that topic, in also by doing research in finding references points. I can say one of my biggest challenges in my Illustration, was my thesis statement, especially when it came to expressing my personal viewpoints in experience about my brother life, when it came to my narrative essay, it was tough and
Self-Assessment Commentary Looking back, at the beginning of the course, I desperately desired to sharpen my writing skills to a great extent. The aspects I craved for improvement were to write essays more smoothly, to come up with suitable examples to reinforce my standpoints, and to convince readers through my essays. My plan to advance the writing skills was to read good English articles, to join writing workshops, and to go over academic materials. However, I only achieved one goal this semester, which is reading academics materials.
