Going into the semester I was a little nervous for the way a higher level class like, Sports Production, would turn out. I am so glad that I took this course and have gained a lot more knowledge on some of the things that interest me and are not covered in the basic courses, such as Intro to TV. I was able to learn more about the behind the scenes things that take place and do more than running a camera at a production. Along with this, I was able to gain an experience in doing packages, which is something I had never heard about. These things were all experiences that I had from hands on tasks but also the book had chapters that I thought related to the things that took place throughout the course. Sports Production was a great class to be …show more content…
Chapter two discussed all the necessary personnel for a production. After taking this course I realize how important the members of the crew are. We had some times when we barely had enough people because they were too busy or just could not find time to help us out. Looking back on this chapter it connects to the way the class ended and how it was hard to get people to work, but on the positive side of it all, we always made everything come together no matter what the negative factors were. One of the crucial parts in a production is the preproduction and the setup. Chapter eleven talks about how much work goes into the planning of a broadcast. I believe that we saw this come into play in our planning for the show. It took so much time for the people to get the set ready. Not only this, planning for the games also took some time, like getting a site survey, making sure you have people to interview at half time and the end of the game, and knowing that everyone on your crew knows what is going to be expected out of them during the production. Chapter six was similar to eleven. I think that the planning was harped on a lot in the book and that is because it is a critical part in making sure the end product is exactly what the group is wanting. The final chapter that I enjoyed was chapter fourteen which was …show more content…
I expressed earlier that I was able to produce a basketball game and that was tremendous growth at that point in the semester. I would say that I grew a lot when it came to story telling. I know that I still have room to improve, but from the first story to the last there were some obvious improvements. For example, I did a sequence in the last package, got shots from different angles, and even had more than one interview. These things all were some of the growth that I have made. However, I think that I can improve when it comes to my story telling and making the story an all around better story. These experiences are all great ones that I am going to take with me throughout the rest of my time here at Indiana Wesleyan University and throughout the
My development as a writer has flourished throughout this semester. The first week of this fall semester started out with writing responses from our readings in the textbook. Looking back through and analyzing my reading responses at the semester to now; I noticed a substantial improvement in not only my grammar skills, but also my summarizing, and in-depth studying of writing adeptness. Another way I have progressed this semester is the vocabulary of my writing has significantly improved and become more scholarly. Another advancement I noticed was that the content of my work has matured, along with my organizational adeptness.
I came into this class under the impression that I already wrote well enough and wouldn’t need to improve. However, as I progressed through the semester I learned that there is always room to grow. The first paper I produced was not at the level I was hoping but after I actively decided to improve my writing my papers became much better. Looking back on my work in the class I wonder how much my writing has changed and where I still have room to improve. Without evaluating my work I can’t hope to become any better. Through this class I have grown much as a writer but there is still more I can learn.
As a child, Stephen Curry was raised like any other child, except he grew up playing multiple sports. “In an age of hyper-specialization, Curry has reached the pinnacle of his sport by doing the exact opposite. He played basketball, but he also played some baseball, football, soccer and basically everything else in a sports buffet” (Cohen). Now, Curry is known as one of the greatest basketball players of all time. Is this because of his vast background of many sports? In today’s world, children should be introduced to a variety of different sports in order to promote discipline and hard work, prevent injury, and fulfill their college desires.
With college right around the corner and taking a college course gave a real sense of how college classes are going to work giving me an edge over all of the other students going to college that didn’t take a dual enrollment course. Dual enrollment was honestly one of the best decisions I made in my academic career because like what I was saying this class taught me the inner workings of how most assignment are going to be turned in, what it means to be self-reliant/ on your own have no help with assignment from your parents, experiencing a course that only a handful of assignment rather than a ton of assignment ends up making up over eighty percent of your grade (getting you to work extra hard so you won’t fail) and finally that you have to actually interact with the professor/teacher if you need help or are having trouble with an
When going through life learning is an everyday occurrence as each day is constantly filled with information that is used throughout the course of your life. Each day we get stronger and stronger in whatever we decide to put our minds to, weather that be academics, sports, our jobs we are constantly learning and growing on a daily basis. This semester I have grown in English as I personally felt that through the English 102 course I have been able to grasp some key concepts and writing techniques that will better me for the future. In this class there was a list of goals and outcomes that the instructor felt would be achievable and the best way to learn throughout the course. In each goal throughout this process I feel like I have improved to some degree but there is other things that I do need to touch up on a bit more to further my writing education outside the classroom.
The world of Sport Management encompasses many elements. Often the best way to figure out what element is the best fit is to try a little bit of everything. Enter Taylor Kielpinski-Rogers. In Taylor’s time at UConn, she pursued a variety of opportunities. She was a Sport Management major, taking classes such as Sport Law, Sport in Society, Sport Communication, and more. She was an administrative assistant for the men’s basketball program for three years, doing things such as coordinating travel arrangements, preparing necessary documents, giving campus tours to recruits, and more. She also was on the cheerleading team for all four years, cheering for football and basketball. She was named captain senior year, calling that “really exciting” and a “great honor.” And for the games she was not cheerleading, she
...t I have improved this area over the course of the semester. I am at the milestone in my writing, however, with hard work and determination I will improve as a writer throughout my college years.
Throughout this semester I have learned many ways of writing through two main essays literacy narrative and comparison and contrast. These two essays have taught me how to correctly fix my comma splices, thesis statements, and capitalization. I have engaged in numerous learning material during this summer class. Many times when I thought it would be hard to work on those three developments I never gave up. I gain more positive feedback from my teacher because he pointed out most of my mistakes I made on both literacy narrative and comparison and contrast essays to help me understand what is it that I need to work on. My development as a writer became stronger.
The most meaningful thing I picked up form this class was that writing does not come from inspiration. Learning this really helped me grow as a writer, I no longer feel the pressure to come up with an inspirational piece and expect it to be golden. Also this tied in with how no writing is perfect in its first draft. I always felt my writing had to be perfect my first attempt, just as major authors or professors did. However as I learned that it talks many “shitty first drafts” to create a good piece of writing, and also then no peace of writing is ever complete.
I realized that I was going to school for the wrong reason -- to play ball. The
The ball comes speeding over the net and slams down onto the face of the court landing just beyond the base line, the line running along the back of the court. I had called her winning point... "out." As I turned towards her, I could see the anger building in her eyes. We walked towards each other, and with only the net separating us, she began to confront me. She argued that, as she saw it, the ball was obviously in and that we should replay the point. I wanted this game as much as she did and we were both standing strong. I finally decided that there was no use in fighting. We had to resolve this argument between ourselves because there were no line judges to decide for us. We decided to replay the point and she won. I tried to convince myself that there would be times when a call would be questionable and that I should try not to point fingers. I still went home discouraged that night because I knew that the call I had made was fair.
Over the course of the semester, I feel that I have grown as a writer in many ways. When I came into the class, there were skills I had that I already excelled at. During my time in class, I have come to improve on those skills even more. Before I took this class I didn’t even realise what I was good at. This is the first class where I felt I received feedback on my writing that helped me to actually review my work in see what areas I lacked in and where I succeeded. Some of the skills I had shocked me as I didn’t think I had those capabilities in me.
When I first started the semester, I had absolute no Idea of what major I wanted to do. Now after taking this course I have been able to narrow it down to 2 majors that I am interested in taking. I had no idea that there was even a sports administration major. If the class never brought in the sports administration presenter I would have never known about the major. In this course I have learned more about my transferable skills, personality type, academic interests, personal values, skills and strengths.
Was there information or insights that helped you that you didn’t expect to learn at the outset of the course?
This class was the first opportunity I had to learn about the event planning industry. I knew that it took a lot to put together an event, but I had never fully realized how much actually goes into it. As a hospitality major, event planning is a necessary skill to have even though I do not plan to become an event planner. If I had the option to start working in this industry tomorrow, there would be several things that would either help or hinder me.
