In the book House Of The Red Fish the main character Tomi Nakaji showed act of loyalty to his father’s boat because he knows that the boat was something his father deeply loved very much.Since the Japanese bombed pearl harbor, the canal sank but that never stop Tomi from trying to recover that boat. Loyalty also means having someone's back at all times, just like
Loyalty is one of the ethics that is instilled in a person at a young age. Loyalty can range from loyalty to a family member, friend, teammate, ect. In Larry Watson's, Montana 1948, the summer of 1948 tests the loyalty of each character and is told through the eyes of a young boy, David. The picture was clear to David when Marie was Murdered. Through this tragic event David was able to read each family member determining whether they were loyal or whether they would betray.
The reading of “The Boat” by Alistair Macleod is an interesting and sad story that displays many elements figuratively and literally. The first figurative element is the boat. At a literal perspective, the boat is used for fishing and boat rides, although these are not the only things that the boat represents. We learn that the father in some way, as been sacrificing his working life for his family, for something that he doesn’t absolutely love. This shows that he is in some way trapped, or imprisoned. The boat displays
Examples of loyalty can be found in many pieces of classic literature such as _Don Quixote_, _The Odyssey_, and _Sir Gawain and the Green Knight_. Many characters in the stories profess their loyalty to other characters. Some of them fail in their loyalty tests while others prevail. I found loyalty to be an underlying theme in all three pieces of literature covered in this paper. The examples provided should prove the theme of loyalty.
...He is still anchored to his past and transmits the message that one makes their own choices and should be satisfied with their lives. Moreover, the story shows that one should not be extremely rigid and refuse to change their beliefs and that people should be willing to adapt to new customs in order to prevent isolation. Lastly, reader is able to understand that sacrifice is an important part of life and that nothing can be achieved without it. Boats are often used as symbols to represent a journey through life, and like a captain of a boat which is setting sail, the narrator feels that his journey is only just beginning and realizes that everyone is in charge of their own life. Despite the wind that can sometimes blow feverishly and the waves that may slow the journey, the boat should not change its course and is ultimately responsible for completing its voyage.
Loyalty can be perceived in many different ways. Loyalty may be shown by an individual as repayment, sympathy, or it may just be a part of one’s character and personality. Ultimately, loyalty is an act of faithfulness, reliability, and commitment. The opposite, disloyalty, is an act of dishonesty. In the novel: “Water for Elephants” by Sara Gruen, the main character, Jacob Jankowski, portrays elements of, both, loyalty and disloyalty. Jacob is deceiving and disloyal in many aspects of this novel; however, once he learns lessons of loyalty from other characters, he embraces loyalty in return – it becomes evident that Jacob’s actions were acts of repayment towards his peers.
“Even in the darkest hour, when all hope seems lost… there is light.” Tolkein. The story, Salt to the Sea by Ruta Sepetys, is about the a few survivors of WW2 who go on a long journey to get to the Wilhelm Gustloff. They end up meeting multiple people along the way and they all end up developing and changing along the journey. The families and children like Florian, Joana, Halinka, and Klaus that survived the “darkest hour” represent the future and the start of a new, better life. All of the characters that ended up surviving were driven by the need to create a future for the children and the need to be with their “family” they found along their journey.
In the movie Big Fish there is a very important quote that is said at the end of the movie. The quote is,”The man tells his stories so many times, that he becomes the stories. They live on after him. And in that way he becomes immortal.” In this quote it is telling about Edward, and how he told his stories all through his life. Every opportunity that he had to tell a story he took. Stories were very important to Edward because they added more excitement, and more meaning to his life, they give life flavor. When someone tells a story so many times, people remember them and then they start to tell those stories. Once this person, this storyteller passes away their stories have influenced people and those stories will be told and passed on for
Not all books are created equally. Some are short-lived and mundane, while others are lengthy and gratifying. The metaphorical phrase, “Don’t judge a book by its cover” is accepted as true in society. However, Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard opposes this statement -- and here’s why. You can say that the cover is quite elegant and modest, as it shows a queen’s tiara dripping red blood. The simplicity of the soft blue background allows the magnificent centerpiece to captivate the eye. But the story behind the cover flap, behold, is made of pure fascination, as it exceeds the beauty of the mask itself.
Loyalty means in The Oxford Dictionary, “a feeling or attitude of devoted attachment and affection.” In the novel, The Kite Runner, loyalty is an important theme throughout the book. The author, Khaled Hosseini displays that loyalty should be highly valued. There are signs of loyalty within the characters, but the main ones are Hassan and Amir. Hassan comes from a difficult social background, lacks education and is the main victim of Amir’s disloyalty, despite his poor background, he manages to stay loyal to his friend, Amir. He is the character who portrayed loyalty the most. Amir’s forgotten loyalty to Hassan is remembered through his guilt.
It was through the wrath of the mother who ridiculed the father and her daughters for reading. But despite the father’s desire to attend university and his resentment of the sea, he abandons his dream and becomes a fisherman in order to satisfy his wife’s hate against education and her love for the sea. When the narrator realizes the motive that drives the father to become a fisherman he realizes “then there came into my heart a very great love for my father and I thought it was very much braver to spend a life doing what you really do not want rather than selfishly following forever your own dreams and inclinations” (pg 10). For the rest of the father’s life, if he is not out fishing, he retreats into his room and reads books all day. The boat that the father fishes from symbolises the will of the wife where the father has slaved throughout his life. Ultimately by conforming to the mother’s demands, the father dies during a tragic storm while he is out fishing. Hence, it eventually cost the father his life trying to satisfy his wife. The father was unable to achieve his goals and lived the rest of his life in misery. In this scenario, by following the dreams of his wife, it led the father a life of unhappiness, and eventually led to his death. Therefore, self-sacrifice does not always lead to happiness but also a life of
The dictionary definition of loyalty is "the quality of being faithful in your support of somebody/something" (Fowler). Loyalty can also be defined as “giving or showing firm and constant support or allegiance to a person or institution” (Augarde). These are pretty concise definitions, but they represent something deeper. Sometimes it goes unnoticed, but it’s there, and we will eternally search for it in ourselves and in other people. Loyalty comes in domestic, spiritual, commercial, and professional forms. In all of these, the concept of loyalty incorporates elements of freedom of belief, expression, and connection.
The beginning of the book opens up with a flashback of the day Papa gets taken of the day the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor. The narrator is a girl name Jeanne and has other siblings, also. She starts to run through some memories of the tradition she had of standing on the wharf with her mother watching her father sat out on another fishing trip. Like any other time she watches until the boats clear the horizon but on this day Papa’s boat and the rest of the fleet stop short of the horizon. This being because Japanese planes just bombed Pearl Harbor so Papa and the rest had to turn around and sail back to the shore.

Contrary to the aforementioned, three of the most important relationships in As You Like It lack loyalty. Loyalty is necessary in all healthy relationships, in As You Like It. The lack of loyalty in certain character relationships emphasizes the need for loyalty in the relationships in the play. The behavior of some of the characters in the play proves that the lack of loyalty is detrimental to their relationships. These relationships are between Duke Fredrick and Celia, Oliver and Orlando, and Rosalind and Orlando.
Loyalty can only come from the heart, not from wanting to be a nice person. A loyal friend should support the friendship no matter what (Loyal- Dictionary Definition, 2016). If loyalty is missing other values in the friendship will suffer (cite). Loyalty between two people it is the key characteristic of what holds the friendship together. A good loyal friend pops up in life when everyone else is walking out of it (Doris Ann, 2011). With a loyal friend someone can laugh, weep, never feel bad about exposing yourself, and most definitely is someone worth praying with (Ann, 2011). Friendship with a best friend is just like a four leaf clover, very difficult to find and very lucky to have in life. Good loyal friends are like stars in the sky, they cannot be seen, but they are always there (Ann, 2011). As Doris Ann quotes, “ I asked God for water, he gave me an ocean. I asked God for a flower, he gave me a garden. I asked God for a tree, he gave me a forest. I asked God for a friend and he gave me you. Be loyal to your friends, and as always you must live well to be well” (Ann, 2011). Ann also quotes, “ If all my friends were to jump off a bridge, I wouldn’t dare to follow, I’d be at the bottom to catch them when they fall”. (Ann 2011). A loyal friend should always have genuine love for the
