I chose the recreational park outside my house for my ethnographic observation. The reasons behind this decision was due to the wide variety of activities conducted by the wide variety of communities present. It is more than likely for a random person to draw an accurate, well-based conclusion from a limited observation in this context. Due to the wide variety of people at the setting, it would be far from difficult for me to blend into the environment present. The bias that I could have about the people in the park is that they are here for entertainment and are probably cheerful and have had a jocular day so far. However, this bias may not be applicable for all of the people present although that is what I assume and suspect. During my 60-minute …show more content…
The park includes an open shelter where particular communities hold some sort of picnic or perhaps a festival. There is a playground where many kids play including some who are accompanied by their parents. There are bike trails and walking trails where many people walk or run or ride either with a partner or individually. There are several benches distributed across the entire park where people sit and enjoy a conversation. In addition, there are several sports complexes including several volleyball courts, two pairs of tennis courts, a basketball court, and a skate park. There was a group of people under the open shelter who seemed to be having a picnic. Their sincerity in conversation points to the conclusion that they are familiar with each other. I assumed that they all were Hispanic due to two important points. First of all, they somewhat resembled my prototypical idea of a hispanic. Second of all, they were all speaking spanish. The
The marketing concept is producing a product that people want to buy and that the business is not selling because it likes making the product there doing it because they know people will buy their product. The marketing concept can be looked as a philosophy that potentially determines what type of marketing tools/ strategy can be used a company.
There is a large Latino population in the United States. “By mid-century, one in every four "Americans" will be able to trace their heritage to a Latin American country”(Cauce & Domenech-Rodriguez, 2000, pg.4). By the year 2050, the United States population will be 30% Hispanic. Spanish speaking Latinos are the most prominent minority in our society, and because of this it is important that people put forth effort to understand their culture, language and any drawbacks that might come with living in the larger culture. Because of the large population of Hispanics in this area, it was easy to find a family to interview. The family’s country of origin is Mexico. A large portion of the Hispanic population in the United States is from Mexico. In fact, 60% of the Hispanic population in the United States has origins in Mexico (Saracho & Spodek 2008,
As a child, I attended a school located in Corona by the name of Washington Elementary. The school did have a playground, but only children under the third grade were allowed to play on the small structure. The older kids, such as my best friend Alondra and I, had access to a basketball court, a few handball courts, and a grass field. I was not a fan of competitive sports so Alondra and I were often found hanging out in the large grassy field or in a teacher’s classroom.
is different from all of the others in society who like to head for a Fun Park
The first item is the language. Not very Hispanic speaks English. This is due to their parents not teaching or wanting them to talk Spanish. Some people prefer to communicate in a native language around family members while some speak Spanish accurately and other don’t! Some parents may communicate with their children in Spanish or English. It’s best to tell someone what language you speak that way they won’t mistake someone
Language is an important value for the nationalistic identity of a nation. Hispanic culture is the way of life of people from Latin America and Spain, and their main identifying factor is the fact that they speak Spanish as their main language. Therefore, Hispanics are not necessarily Spaniards but other groups like Mexicans, Puerto Ricans and Cubans who speak Spanish are also part of this group (Shaw and Dennison 207). American culture on the other hand is mainly comprised of the people who speak English as their main dialect. Therefore, the Spaniards have Spanish as their native language while the Americans use Englis...
Ethnicity is an important yet highly imprecise concept in contemporary Mexico. Students of Mexican society, as well as Mexicans themselves, identify two broad ethnic groups based on cultural rather than racial differences: mestizos and Indians. Each group has a distinct cultural viewpoint and perceives itself as different from the other. At the same time, however, group allegiances may change, making measurement of ethnic composition problematic at best.
In the park written by Gwen Harwood, was originally written under a male pseudonym. The poem represents the idea of changing identity because of certain circumstances as well as challenging common ideas, paradigms and values & beliefs which is commonly held amongst mothers in today’s society.

The term Hispanic is used to describe Spanish speaking natives. Spanish is one of the fastest expanding languages in the world and accounts for 21 different countries as their official language. About half of Hispanics originate in Mexico, and there is a lot diversity within the 21 Hispanics countries, therefore even their own traditions and heritages will be specific to them. It is also important to remember that most Hispanics do not like to be referred to as Hispanic but instead from where they reside; for example, Mexican American and Puerto Rican. Hispanics are very family oriented and they consider the oldest male to be the figure of authority, although when it comes to important decisions, the whole family contributes.
The Hispanic community represents many nationalities and ethnicities, including Mexicans, Cubans, Puerto Ricans, 15 Central and South American countries, Spain, and the Dominican Republic (Cattan, 1993). Hispanic group are well known in the workforce, politics, education, social economic and religion. The Spanish culture influences a variety of areas such as music, food, language. Most languages are rooted in Latin. It is always good to learn about other cultures if we expect the same consideration when we visit other countries. Differences are what make life interesting. Majority of the United States is built on immigration, which has made this country the most diverse. And the Hispanic group contributes to that diversity.
A cigarette butt lies next to my foot, still emitting a trace of smoke. Nearby on the dusty asphalt a pigeon waddles self-consciously, bobbing its head as if pecking the air for some invisible food. A squirrel churrs a threat to his brother, challenging him to romp.
On September 9th, 2017 at approximately 7 p.m., I went to Gracedale Public Park to carefully conduct my observation on the individuals, who were at the park and their specific activities in the one hour of time. When I got there, the weather was beautiful with soft winds, a clear sky and with some dim sunlight. The park was full of people of all ages. Though, there were more kids than adults and some teenagers. There were many bicycles and strollers parked beside the tree I sat under. After a couple of minutes, the park filled up with more and more individuals and everyone seemed busy doing their own actions.
Working with the Monument Crisis Center as my community partner, I noticed that most of the people who work there speak Spanish. Working there for the past three months, I have also noticed that most of their clients are Hispanic. They usually cannot speak much English, and so the workers who speak help them out whenever they come to the Monument Crisis Center (MCC). I actually had the chance to do phone calls for MCC and had the chance to use my Spanish-speakin...
What I learned in the group final project is that I am not the best with working with people. It is not that I do not want to work with them or that they do not want to work with me, it is that my group which consisted of Alexa, Aaron, Ashlyn, Brett, and myself, had very conflicting schedules so it was difficult trying to rearrange times so all or at least the majority of us could meet up to go over our group work. Before starting our group project “The Day in a Life of…”, we were grouped up with our fellow classmates but not on our own volition. I was not put into a group with people I knew or thought I would like.
