The United States Federal government wants people’s help. They are trying to decide if using marijuana should be legal for medical use, recreational use or if it should remain illegal. Marijuana should be illegal because it is addictive, impairs memory, and affects school, work, and social life. The first reason why marijuana should be illegal is because it is addictive. Nine percent of people who use marijuana will become dependent on it. People have difficulty controlling their drug use and cannot stop even though it interferes with many parts of their lives. Marijuana accounted for 4.2 million of the estimated seven million Americans dependent on or abusing illicit drugs. Using marijuana makes people want to use it more, it interferes with their lives, and it becomes hard for them to quit. The next reason why marijuana should be illegal is because it impairs memory. As people get older, they lose a nerve cell, which lowers their skills to learn. Marijuana’s effects on the brain can build up and worsen critical life skills over time. According to LZ Granderson, “smoking pot isn’t as harmful as people thought it to be.” He states that “legalizing pot is not without risk; it has been proven to impair concentration.” “but there are far more dangerous drugs,” like alcohol, cocaine and meth to name a few.
First of all, some people feel smoking marijuana can get hyper, which providing them the emotion of happiness, and helping them to see the world from a different perspective. However, marijuana will cause a lot of healthy problems to human’s body. Marijuana has many physical effects on human such as rapid heart rate, red eyes and dry mouth. The number one reason marijuana is illegal today is because of economics. Pharmaceutical companies make billions of dollars every year by treating medical conditions that could be treated naturally. People today have medicine cabinets that are completely full with medication that treats problems from headaches to anxiety and depression. The problem with this is that some medications do not react well with one another. You can have fatal results with mixing medication which is why you are told to consult your doctor before use. Some products even state the possible side effects which seem so horrible that you wouldn't want to risk it. The problem is mostly due to how huge these pharmaceutical companies have become, they can't come to terms that marijuana could eliminate the need for a large amount of medication being used today.
I believe my research on this topic overall was satisfied for social marijuana drug use in high schools is amazingly high and from this project I can inform people of the possible hazards and give enough general information for someone to might be curious. From this research I make these final conclusions 1.Marijuana has mostly short term effects to any one who smokes it ranging from learning problems to emotional problems. 2.Long term effects are generally seen from heavy users, irreversibly damaging the brain. 3.So any short term effect can become permanent malfunction with continual marijuana abuse after time.
Marijuana is more helpful than you think. It is much less harmful than legalized substances and drugs most use today. There’s no real reason why marijuana is illegal. Why the government wouldn’t want us to be hungry, happy, and sleepy is beyond me, especially if they’re making billions of dollars on it. Natural marijuana has been on earth since the beginning of time. What makes it wrong now?

So why exactly should marijuana be legal? Well, there are many reasons both opinions and facts, but why does it need to be legal? According to many of my sources, marijuana has been found to be less dangerous than both alcohol and tobacco products. “Marijuana is safer than many over the counter drugs.” (Young, Francis L. 2) Judge Francis L. Young, from the DEA, declared that marijuana is one of the safest therapeutically active substances known to man. “Long term heavy marijuana use does not produce the severe or grossly debilitating impairment of memory, attention, and cognitive function found with chronic alcohol use.”(British Medical Journal Lancet 4) Only a small number of marijuana users eventually smoke enough of it for a long period to suffer impairments matching those ...

Legalization of Marijuana has quickly become a controversial issue in America. In the United States, legalization of marijuana for medicinal purposes is spreading to the state level. For example, in November 1996, the people of California and Arizona voted to legalize marijuana for medicinal reasons. As a result of Proposition 215 in California, patients now smoke marijuana provided their physician recommends its usage. A prescription is not required, and marijuana continues to be illegal to prescribe. The Clinton administration responded that it “would not recognize these decisions, and would prosecute physicians who recommend or provide marijuana to their patients.” Although California and Arizona are the only two states to have already passed laws regulating marijuana usage, twenty-six states and the District of Columbia have laws and resolutions regarding marijuana usage. These laws and resolutions range from establishing therapeutic research programs, to allowing doctors to prescribe marijuana, to asking the federal government to lift the ban. Despite the states’ desires to have marijuana legalized for medicinal purposes, the US National Institutes of Health examined all existing clinical evidence about smoked marijuana and concluded that, “There is no scientifically sound evidence that smoked marijuana is medically superior to currently available therapies.”
Should Marijuana Be Legalized? In society today, many people look for a feeling of freedom. Many people go on vacation and spend money. The most common escape for people is drugs. Our American society is facing a tremendous drug problem. In order to eradicate the drug problem, a public debate is going on to find some solutions to this drug dilemma. It has become a highly controversial issue whether drugs such as marijuana should be legalized or not. Some people advocate this issue and believe that legalization is the only solution left for the nation while others oppose because it will increase the number of drug users and drug related crimes. Marijuana is a drug that is illegal in the United States. This drug as you know is bad and causes severe side effects to your brain and body. Scientist have found that smoking marijuana can cause you to loose your memory. Marijuana has many psychological and physical effects.
In the perspective of America's war on drugs, marijuana is one of the biggest enemies. And since alcohol and tobacco, two life threatening substances, are legal it is a relevant question to ask why marijuana is illegal. The taxpayers of America can partly answer this question when they fill out their tax forms and when they hear the hash rhetoric used against marijuana by the government. The fact that marijuana is illegal is sufficiently caused by the amount of money, jobs, and pride invested in the drug war. In other words, the government cannot turn back now.
Marijuana continues to be one of the most used illegal drugs in the United States. Marijuana has been used for many years and at one time was legal to consume. Throughout the years, marijuana has been used for treatment of different medical conditions and has been used recreationally by people of all ages. While the use of medicinal marijuana has proven to be effective in treating medically ill patients, society continues to question its recreational use and the long-term effects it will have on its users. Some feel that legalizing marijuana will only open up avenues for the use of more potent drugs, causing an increase in criminal activity.
People usually abuse marijuana by becoming addicted and smoking it just because instead of using it for their well-being. I went around and asked about ten people I know who have been smoking for at least five years. When I asked them if they had ever experienced memory problems, learning difficulties, trouble with problem solving and loss of muscle activity and addictive capability, they responded, “If anything, marijuana enhances my memory.” “I would not be able to learn in school if I did not smoke.” “The only problem I had, was being addicted to marijuana, but it was all in my head because when I finally stopped smoking, I had no withdrawal symptoms.” The only side effect that seemed to be accurate when asking these questions was the addictive properties. Although being addicted to marijuana mentally can be a problem, all of the many positive side effects of marijuana outweigh the one negative side effect that seems to be the most
