Reasons Why Football Should Be Banned

Football should be banned. Its players have reported intense medical problems due to this sport, and people have died while playing. Today, I will explain to you why football should be banned, for the following reasons. Firstly, the repeated head trauma caused plenty of long-term effects that shows the extreme damage of the player’s brain. Secondly, letting players kill themselves is something we cannot allow. Thirdly, College football has no academic purpose. Firstly, the repeated hits cause tons of long-term and short term damage to a player’s brain. Some disorders caused by this are things like Second Impact Syndrome (SIS). It’s a rare event which occurs when a second hit is amplified by pre-existing brain damage. Basically, if you get hit once, you could be fine, but the second hit, which you may have been able to handle before, gets much, much more worse, and can cause death. In a …show more content…

Colleges are based on providing a higher-level education for those who seek it. Football is not part of education. Like I said before, it’s essentially just a money maker for a college. While that might be acceptable, the fact that so many colleges just dedicated themselves to football, rather than education, defeats the purpose of college. Besides, if the majority of college football programs made a decent amount of money, arguing against College football would be a more illogical stance. In an article by Forbes, we can see that Alabama took in $36.9 million in university funds and student fees, due to the football program. Texas spent $25.8 million on football. Their coach gets paid 1.4 million a year. Maryland spent $50.8 million on modernizing their stadium! That’s a ridiculous amount of money that could easily be spent on improving the education of others who actually go to college for an education, which should be the main intent of a college.
