Ideology in the Reality TV Genre One of the most influential and impactful inventions that has shaped our society is television. Not the TV itself, but what is displayed on the TV. Most television show genres were made for entertainment, informative or education purposes, a genre that’s purpose is ambiguous is Reality TV. All shows that fit into the Reality TV genre are unscripted, has a cast that are usually not professional actors and the show normally focus on drama, competition, and placing participants into rare or unusual situations and environments. Most people associate Reality TV with Millennials and believe that it largely impacted this generation. As human beings we naturally have emotions and although everyone has a different way of expressing them, there is a right way. When an unacceptable reaction is promoted by adults on TV it has become hard to teach what is the right way to handle emotional situations. Fights between cast members happen so often that it 's not even news, also the cast members fight and they are still on the next episode and every episode after that. There are no consequences for jumping over a table to strangle someone, throwing a wine glass at person or even dragging another person by the hair while punching them. By having not having repercussions and calling it "Reality TV" it normalizes this behavior and because a large population of the viewers are young adults, it has conditioned many to believe violent acts are okay and that its solves your problems. Also many cast members become more famous and are praised for fighting, for example Joseline Hernandez from Love & Hip-Hop Atlanta is not famous for her music and videos but because she randomly starts brawls with cast members.
