In the book Ready Player One, being able to be in a virtual reality almost sound like you’re in a dream, but in the movie The Matrix being stuck inside a virtual reality without being aware of it is more like a nightmare. Being able have total control of entering and exiting to a different world where you can do anything you like can sound like fun. but what happens when you live inside a virtual reality and not being aware of it feels like you are a prisoner. In both these stories the protagonist are jumping in and out the virtual world, but are they both doing it so they can survive in the real world. They have similar, yet different expositions, characters, and plots with conflicts. Many people say that books or short stories are better than movies because of the similarities and differences that are found. Books or short stories are usually more descriptive, informative, and do not stray too far from the central idea or main theme, while movies only fall into one or two of these categories. Movies hardly ever fall into all three categories, however if they do the movies become better. This is not the case with The Most Dangerous Game. One place where movies and short stories have major similarities and differences is at the beginning of the story or the exposition.

There are many stories and movies that you are able to be compared and contrasted because of there similar and different ideas. High Noon and The Most Dangerous Game have many differences and similarities that you can compare and contrast. An example would be how the characters take place in similar situations such as being hunted down. Both stories take place in the early 1900's such as 1924 and 1952. Both of these stories have differences such us the plot which brings each story to their differences. Another situation which both of the stories are similar in is the setting. As a child, we are raised in an environment where we are taught that our experiences, senses and perceptions tell us that our world is real. Reality for every individual may be different as their experience of life will likely be different to every other person they know. In the perspective of one individual, they might use their senses and beliefs to conclude that the world they are living in is real. This person is living in a world that is real for them, despite the possibility that it is not the only reality that exists. The most apparent concepts that connect these two films are the overall visuals of both films and their vision of city of the future. The futuristic city of both Scott and Lang are distinct in their landscapes, geography, and social structure. These two films sought to envision a future where technology was the basis by which society functioned. Technology was the culture and the cities would crumble without it (Will Brooker). The Matrix, once being released was a world-famous film that involved a lot of thinking and the ability to interpret complex ideas. However, these two topics of fate and freewill were creatively and smartly submerged in this film. The pill, jujitsu and Oracle scene were three main examples of the effect this all had on The Matrix, however there were a few others scattered throughout the film. Plato, the creator of the Allegory of the Cave was a famous philosopher who was taught by the father of philosophy Socrates. Plato was explaining the perciption of reality from others views to his disciple Aristotle. The Matrix and the Allegory of the Cave share a simmilar relationship where both views the perciption of reality, but the Matrix is a revised modern perciption of the cave. In this comparison essay I am going to explain the similarities and deifferences that the Matrix and The Allegory of the Cave shares.In the Matrix, the main character,Neo,is trapped in a false reality created by AI (artificial intelligence), where as in Plato's Allegory of the Cave a prisoner is able to grasp the reality of the cave and the real life. One can see many similarities and differences in the film and the allegory. The most important similarity was between the film and the Allegory is the perception of reality.Another simmilarity that the movie Matrix and the Allegory of the Cave shares is that both Neo and the Freed man are prisoners to a system. The most important difference was that Neo never actually lived and experienced anything, but the freed man actually lived and experinced life.
Setting the people free from the virtual reality they live in in The Matrix is morally wrong. Freeing them would only cause them more pain and suffering. John Stuart Mill’s utilitarianism shows that by allowing people to stay in the virtual world they will be more happy than in the real world and thus it will be the best for the general interest of society. Staying in the virtual world will bring about the most utility.
Slavoj Žižek believes the world perceived by humans to be “real” is isolated from a more authentic reality due to it being distorted by one’s own fantasies and desires (Žižek 335). He believes that it is only through fantasies that humans learn what they truly desire (Žižek 335). In the film The Matrix, the protagonist, Neo, attempts to escape the fantasy world (called “the Matrix”) to live in true reality. Neo’s desire to escape the Matrix and live in a real world symbolizes how we, as humans, have an innate desire to pursue an authentic life, or to find the meaning of life. Although this can be done in many different ways, the film focuses on just three: individuals using drugs to discover alternate experiences of life in hopes of finding the truest, feelings of love aiding in the discovery of the meaning of life, and religion being sought due to the desire to live out truth.
Virtual Reality allows designers and developers to create an experience that is not real, but gives the effects and the experience as being real, hence, a virtual reality!
