I have learned so many things this year about the reading and writing process that I can’t wait to apply next year too! One of these items is the revision process in writing an essay. I have always done some sort of first draft, second draft type of thing, but I didn’t realize how important it is to look back at your final draft and make changes to that. I have learned this concept this year by doing the mandatory and optional revisions. This has showed me that nothing will be perfect and there will always be room to improve; that idea is something that I could apply to not only writing but to life. Furthermore, I learned about the importance of having a second pair of eyes look at my assignment. This is important to do because oftentimes they
Throughout this semester we have had to write many types of essays. Although this is a college English class there is still room for improvement. I made much improvement during the semester of the class. I was able to identify my weaknesses. I learned how to make improvements to the areas I was having problems in. Although each essay we did was different I was able to begin with one essay and throughout the semester turn it into two other essays. I was able to change my style of writing to fit the type of audience I was working with. I will continue to work on my writing and keep improving it.

In the beginning of English 101 I was what you call a novice writer a person who only wrote what they felt was required. However, certain techniques that I learned in English 101 made me realize that writing was not about filling requirements; it’s about speaking out, exploring and proving a point. “Writing is an exploration. You start from nothing and learn as you go.” (Trimble, 17) In John Trimble’s quote he tries to point out that writing is something that you grow with and learn as you go along. I believe this growth was achieved with a technique that was introduced to me by my professor called repetitive revision. What I found out was that revision of your essays helps in recognizing your mistakes and enhances the flow of your essays. By providing me...
According to Donald M. Murray in The Makers Eye: Revising Your Own Manuscripts “A piece of writing is never finished”. Before this class, I didn’t really revise my essays
Throughout the semester i only learned few new things but i did improve and solidify my skill of writing. Before my first year of college my skills have always undermined by other high school english teachers and with that came disappointing grades. I am writing this paper as a reflection of the semester and the progress i have made as a writer. I now understand many things that my high school teachers have done a poor job demonstrating and i am grateful that i decided to take my own route in my education instead of their syllabus. I entered the semester with anxiety that i would perform as i did before but i clearly outdid my own expectations by receiving top grades on my essays.
Throughout this semester I have learned many ways of writing through two main essays literacy narrative and comparison and contrast. These two essays have taught me how to correctly fix my comma splices, thesis statements, and capitalization. I have engaged in numerous learning material during this summer class. Many times when I thought it would be hard to work on those three developments I never gave up. I gain more positive feedback from my teacher because he pointed out most of my mistakes I made on both literacy narrative and comparison and contrast essays to help me understand what is it that I need to work on. My development as a writer became stronger.
A reflective essay is a narrative form of essay. Such essay includes author’s personal experiences, memory, point of view and the reflection on the significance of those recalled memories. These are the main elements of reflective essay. Comley states, “your own experience and memory will be your primary source for reflective essay”. In the reflective essay, the author relies on his/her personal experiences and memory to support the main idea of the essay.
I was never a person that liked to write essays. This semester I really enjoyed writing those essays and specially because I was learning new things while writing them. Some things I could do to improve my essay writing are not to wait till the last three or four days before I turn my essay in to start doing it. Another thing I will do is if I forget how to do something or about some rule in the common errors I made I will just go back to all the lessons I printed out to have as reference. I think those will help me allot. And one last thing I will do to improve my writing is to try my best not to confuse all those words I got confused. I will do my best to learn each word and its rule of where it goes so I won’t have the same mistakes I had this semester.
Literacy is the understanding of reading and writing. People develop this skill by learning the language and be able speak, read, write, understand. This is important because people need to be able to communicate and understand reading the text. People learn their language when they were about 2 years old. They will learn it from their family and parents. After they know how to communicate with their family, they learn how to read and write. The grammar skill develop by the time and how much they use the English language. People learn the language by reading and understand the concept. People also need to know how to write and be able to make other people to understand their text, this mean literacy skill. You learn this by know the strategy of writing and understand the text when you read something. The more you read and write, you improve the literacy skill.
In order to produce a piece of well-rounded writing, it is a known fact that every author must be able to assemble, grease, and apply the many moving pieces of literacy throughout his work. These tasks, while being vital, do not at all necessitate that a particular technique or procedure be followed for their completion. Thankfully, writers are free to use their own methods to invent, revise, and discover. Speaking for myself, I certainly have my own writing method.
It was a task that took a significant amount of time and effort, but was truly an excellent learning experience. I found it intriguing how much the original essay can improve or modify over time; moreover, how different ideas flow through your brain each second. The revision of my essays taught me an enormous deal about writing and was genuinely pleasurable to do.
In this paper, I will analyze reading strategies for the content area of language arts in a fifth grade class. Reading comprehension is one of the most critical skills a student can master. Without a firm grasp on the comprehension process, learners will struggle in every subject they encounter, whether it’s science, math, or social studies as well as everyday living skills. The content areas typically included disciplines like science, social studies/history and math, but any area outside of English literature instruction constitutes a content area. The reading associated with content area courses reflects not only the concepts and ideas important to these subjects, but also the text structures used by those practicing the field.
Reading is a complex process and it would be a good idea to see how it is defined. In general terms, it is an interactive process between a piece of text and the reader and it is meaningful as long as the reader is able to create meaning. According to Anthony, Pearson, and Raphael (1993), “Reading is the process of constructing meaning through the dynamic interaction among the reader’s existing knowledge, the information suggested by the written language, and the context of the reading situation” (p. 284).
I still had the typical grammatical errors and sentence fragments, but there were not as many. I could see my writing skills were improving based on me actually taking the instructors corrections and advice into consideration. When I created my revision memo for this essay, I attempted to finally perfect the common mistakes I had made. Making my sentences a little longer
“Your assumptions are your windows of the world. Scrub them off every once in awhile, or else the light won’t come in.” (George Bernard Shaw) The idea of being able to “think outside of the box” is commonly used that it seems to have lost its meaning. But, in a sense, it’s the easiest way to teach people to be open to different ideas and opinions. Being open to different ideas and perspectives helps one develop analytical skills. Good readers exemplify my characteristics that can not only be learned but that can be developed. A good reader is someone who has an open mind and doesn’t assume what will happen next. They take the time to understand what the other is trying to say behind each word that is expressed .Good readers take on the benefit
