The title is the modern technology and its consequence on personal life. Although technology gives us amenities for better life, it also has some bad impact on our life. Technology isolated us from our neighbors and thinned us morally. Author depict it clearly in the short story “the Bath”

It is a gut-wrenching tale of a woman who orders a birthday cake for her only son's eighth birthday party, only to have him get hit by a car, enter a coma. The conflict in the story comes from the fact that the baker she had ordered the cake from, angry about the fact that no one had picked it up, continues to call the family, ignorant all other things. That human dignity has been compromised under the modern reign of techne, in which people are reduced to the roles they perform. It has been well documented, for example, that privileging the American auto industry has contributed to the fragmentation of traditional neighborhoods and communities, and that the telephone increasingly has replaced face to-face conversation. The action in Carver's story highlights both these facts. The evidence presented by the author is further explored when the baker makes his first phone call and Scotty’s father answers the phone. The baker in the beginning only wants to know what is absolutely necessary. He talks like a robot. Scotty’s father doesn’t know anything about a cake and ends up hanging up on the baker before he can find out what the call is about. Baker calls asking for him money the Father has no idea who that is and the Baker.

Yes, this evidence is valid and relevant. With improvement of technology and peace of life man have little time to communicate face to face and it has many advantage but with the same time it also has bad impact on our life.
