When you think your average baseball player, what do you think of? The player usually has all of his arms, legs, and no physical disabilities. Anyone who plays baseball would think it is hard to imagine that a person born without a right arm is able to play the game and let only be able to be a pitcher. Jim Abbott faces all the odds and has ten-year career in the major leagues. Abbott had to faces many obstacles throughout life and his playing career. Jim Abbott grew up being picked on since he didn’t have a right arm. When Abbott was younger he would use a steel hook as right hand and other children were afraid of him. Also, they called him names like Mr. Hook.
“Carrying his own cross, he went out to the place of the Skull (which in Aramaic is called Golgotha). There they crucified him, and with him two others—one on each side and Jesus in the middle,” (John 19:17-18). Jesus Christ’s valiant life was terminated with a horrendous execution. Tom Robinson’s did as well. He lived his life in the name in the name of others, helping everyone that he could, going out of his way to save people, even Judas, who would betray him. Tom did this aswell, constantly assisting Mayella, she who would betray him in court. Jesus had followers who believed in his message, just as Tom had believers in his innocence. Jesus and his followers would face persecution, just as Tom and hisi believers would. The judgements and death sentences of Jesus and Tom would make them become martyrs. The Martyrdoms would be essential for their causes. Many aspects of Tom Robinson’s life and death
“Great works are performed not by strength, but by perseverance” (Johnson). Aron Ralston is a great example of Samuel Johnson’s quote. He lost his arm due to extreme circumstances but never used his handicap as an excuse to quit. His story is one that began simple enough, but it changed into one to be told for generations to come. The following will include a brief bio, the adversity Ralston faced, how he overcame it, and how this man exemplifies perseverance. Aron Ralston could not control the adversity befell him, but he chose to persevere. Even though he endured horrific odds, he never let that define him.

According to Tom Spring ,“About 10,000 people in the United States may be wrongfully convicted of serious crimes each year.”(Tom Spring). In the men’s bathroom December 29 ,1991 early in the morning, a woman's body was discovered on the floor in the men’s restroom with blood all over her . To this day, this game haunts me and sometimes I find it hard to sleep at night because I am too busy thinking of what should have been. Looking back, the way to describe the ending to my senior season is disappointment; not only in myself, but in my entire team. Being the only senior it felt like more of betrayal than anything. It felt like my teammates knew they had more than a second chance to redeem themselves so they were not as heartbroken and sympathetic towards the loss and towards
On our way to the ball field it took longer than I expected it to because the traffic was so hectic from the people trying to get to the ball game. When we finally arrived, I was more excited than I had ever been. After we barley found a parking spot we made our way to the baseball field. I had never seen so many people having the time of their lives. The outside of the stadium was amazing, the size and beauty astonished me. Their were people everywhere scurrying around trying to get in the door to find their seats so that they could get a good look at the players warming up in pre game.
Friday night rolled around, it was the game we had all been working so hard for. Knowing we were seniors, we knew it would be the end of the journey.
I remember those Friday nights in high school going to the football games. Listening to the fans roaring in the crowd and the cheerleaders chanting cheers on the sidelines for their team. While eating nachos from the concession stands, I enjoyed the halftime show done by the dance team and marching band. The best part of it all is winning the game, celebrating with friends, and before the night ends listening to the sound of your school's fight song in the background. I do not know about you, but these were my favorite events to attend during high school.
It was the last season of my football career and it could not have been going better. We were winning games and were having a blast. The team was giving high fives and banging helmets together. We were a true family; growing closer than any team I had ever been with before. I was standing with my teammates as we said the same prayer before our game as we did every week. “Our Father Who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.” The deep, strong voices rang throughout the room sending chills down my back. I loved it.
