SMITHVILLE — Two Police officers received Letters of Recognition from Chief Howard Funk for exemplary service to the department. “One of the things I do is present recognition for superior performance by the officers,” said Funk. “When these awards are presented, I want to bring them to your attention. Sometimes all we hear are negative things and I want to mention some of the positive things.” Officers, Sgt. Kyle Watson and Officer Jenny Barnett, were recognized by Chief Funk. Sgt. Watson’s award stemmed from a call on January 11, 2016 when a female resident reported that she had been raped by her live-in boyfriend. Watson interviewed both the victim and the suspect during the course of the investigation. Watson became skeptical of the victim’s account and arranged for a controlled phone call between the her and the suspect. During the course of the …show more content…
Barnett worked closely with the schools where she serves as a resource officer and was able to secure the requisite funding to attend the training, approximately $2,000, without any cost to the village. She was recognized for her effort and dedication to the matter. Park committee chairwoman Joyce Garn notified council that she had received several complaints about people smoking at the park. After some research, it was determined that the ordinance was written in a manner that outlined specific areas where smoking was not permitted. “According to our ordinance covering tobacco, no tobacco use is permitted in pavilions, restrooms, play areas, basketball courts, sports fields or bleachers,” Garn said. “There are so many areas (in the park) that this doesn’t cover, I would like to have a conversation about making the entire park non-smoking. The way the ordinance is written, person’s smoking near these areas are not in violation of the

Sexual assault is defined as a type of behaviour that occurs without explicit consent from the recipient and under sexual assault come various categories such as sexual activities as forces sexual intercourse, incest, fondling, attempted rape and more (Justice.gov. 2017). People often become victims of sexual assault by someone they know and trust (Mason & Lodrick, 2013) which is conflicting to the public’s perception and beliefs that offenders are strangers. Women are the main victims for sexual assault and are 5 times more likely to have been a victim of sexual assault from a male (Wright, 2017, p. 93). Men are victims of sexual assault however only 0.7% of men, compared to 3.2% of women, experience some form of sexual assault which highlights how vulnerable women are compared to men. Sexual assault is publicised and exposed in the media, however is often

Throughout the introduction of this book, it explains that the book was written for anyone who is involved in any way with investigative interviewing. The introduction has a specific section written about Police Officer training and their roles. Yeschke states that officers are perceived as always in a hurry and rush through processes with victims. He says this is true a lot of the times because officers are often criticized by their superiors for spending too much time on a call. Even after a review of log activity, it shows that even when officers have sufficient time to conduct a thorough investigation, they do not. Yeschke says that usually the main reasons are they perceive interviewing as being useless and unimportant, their supervisors actually discourage it, or that they are not properly equipped to carry out said investigation. The other half of this introduction speaks on the current basic

“I am standing in the hallway looking out the window for my ride home. I turn around and my suitcase is gone; Joe and Bill from down the hall are laughing as they carry it away. I follow them. I hear a door lock behind me. They let go of my suitcase and grab me. I am lying on the bare linoleum floor of Joe's bedroom. In the room are a group of Lambda Chi and KDR pledges who live on my hall; several of them are football players. Some are sitting on the bed, laughing. Two others are pinning my arms and my legs to the floor. Joe is touching me while the others cheer. I am a friendly fellow-classmate as I reasonably explain that I'm in a rush to catch a ride, that I'm not in the mood to joke around; that I'd really like them to please cut it out.
In conclusion, it seems obvious that smoking should not be allowed in public parks. This would develop the environment better, and give stunning image for children and even the people generally, and reduces health ailments. Within the certainly not also far away foreseeable long
According to the Victim oriented multi-disciplinary responses to statutory rape training guide, “Law enforcement often assigns statutory rape cases a much lower priority than incest and forcible rape cases with young children. There is a belief among criminal justice officials that investigation and arrest are a waste of time because prosecutors will not prosecute except in most egregious cases” (Elstein & Smith, 1998). Statutory rape laws should be just as much of a priority as child abuse and forcible rape. Throwing away statutory rape cases is not effective regardless of how hard it is to prosecute. A minor does not know what is best for him or her it should not matter whether or not the victim is willing to testify. If proof that a minor is indeed involved in a cases where his or her partner is considered an adult by law then that person should be convicted. It is hard to prosecute statutory rape cases because most of the ‘victims’ are not willing to testify against their partners. The minors involved in the cases are usually in the relationship because they want to be not becaus...
Rape is a much-debated topic in public policy and academia. Research suggests that one in seven women are raped at some point in their lifetime with less than a nine percent conviction rate and even then a very small percentage of victims report (Wolitzky-Taylor, 2011, p. 808). The overwhelming majority of offenders fail to face conviction. These issues stem from both social issues and the criminal justice systems conflicting views on what it means to consent. While we have seen improvements to the legal definition of rape and evolving consent laws in 26 out of 50 states, these reforms do not go far enough. We need a consistent standard for consent so that victims feel empowered to report and testify against perpetrators rather than be subject to archaic laws that persecute the victim, erode our justice system and put our society at risk.
...se everyone who is surrounding the smoker is affected. Smoking should be done at one’s house or not at all. Smokers may not realize what they are doing when they smoke around other non- smokers, but they are hurting them. Those who oppose this ban, may believe that they hold strong arguments, but no argument can really beat out they argument between saving people’s lives and killing them slowly. This smoking ban will be for the good of the city of Fort Wayne, and for its entire population.
Smoking should be banned at the Central Texas College due to the harmful components it may bring to students and staff on campus. It can not only harm the smoker, but it can harm the ones around them. The effects of smoking can give CTC a negative environment. Smoking is unhealthy, toxic, and can be addictive for the smoker and the non-smoker.
