On October 14th, 1939 Ralph Lauren was born in the Bronx of New York City. Ralph is currently at the age of 76. He is the third child out of four children and his parents are Frieda and frank who were Ashkenazi Jewish immigrants who fled Belarus. Ralph and his brother Jerry changed their names to Lauren at the ages of 16 because they were constantly teased at school. The Brand he established known as polo is now part of an international empire. His brand includes fragrances, home furnishings, luxury clothing and dining based on his fantasy of upper-class life.
In the year of 1964 Ralph met the woman of his dreams and soon they were married. He married a woman by the name of Frank Anne Low-Beer. They have three children together named Dylan, Andrew, and David. In the mid 1980’s Ralph had a health scare when doctors had to remove a benign tumor from his brain. Since then he has helped fund many cancer institutes. In 1989, because of his recent health problems he decided to help co-found Georgetown University's Nina Hyde Center for Breast Cancer Research. His symbol and name come from his love of sports. When he first

started the famous business he had never even played polo. He said that he not only liked the sport but it had a since of style to the name. Ralph Lauren at the moment has a net worth of about 6 billion dollars. He is ranked among the 200 richest people in the world. Using his considerable fortune, he has accumulated a collection of famous cars including a 1930 Mercedes-Benz Count Trossi SSK. After a year of his shares falling he decided in September of 2015 to step away from chief executive and give CEO to Stefan Larsson, who was the global president of Gap’s Old Navy division. Ralph attended DeWitt Clinton public high school in New York City. Ralph attended Baruch college in Manhattan for two years. There he studied business and after finishing that he spent a little time in the army. After his time in the army he took a job at Brooks Brothers. While Ralph was working for Brooks Brothers he designed his own men’s neckties in in a wider cut, branding them under the name “Polo”. He sold them to large department stores including Bloomingdale. Ralph really set his business off when he received a loan of $30,000, eventually making a whole line of men’s clothing. In 1972, Ralph released a short sleeve cotton shirt that could be bought in 24 different colors. Ralphs fashion sense was apparent at a very young age because he would go and buy expensive suits with the money he earned from his after school job.
Even though he knew he could find clothes at a cheaper price, he wanted to make a point by dressing stylish and succeeded in doing so since he was 12. Ralphs company provides many different products including fragrances, clothing for all ages and genders, furniture, and dining ware. Ralph Laurens cloths are manufactured in many places some of which include the Philippines, Bolivia, Sri Lanka, China, and Hong Kong. The main headquarters of POLO still resides in New York City. He employs over 10,000 people with 388 stores worldwide and has an annual revenue of 2.2 billion dollars. Ralph has had many autobiographies written about him. Many start off by talking about his early life and move up from
there. Ralph is most famous for his clothing lines but is also known for many of his other products. He actually did get a little spark of fame in the film industry helping direct The Great Gatsby. I decided on clothing for my business because it’s something that’s always going to be needed and there’s tons of opportunity in that field. Clothing is becoming more and more popular and the statistics say people are buying more and more outfits each year. One thing I’ve learned about Ralph that inspires me to become a great entrepreneur is his fortune. Another thing I’ve learned about him that inspires me is his struggles through life and how he overcame them and did something to help others with those same problems. The last thing that really inspires me to become one of the greats is his work ethic and how hard he worked to get where he is today.
Lawrence Willoughby, an African American male, was born in 1881 in Pitt County, North Carolina. He was the son of Lannie Anderson and X Willoughby. Lawrence married at 22,a woman by the name of Jennie Best on December 20, 1903. Records says that the two married in Pitt County, North Carolina. They had eight children in 13 years. He died on August 4, 1951, in Greenville, North Carolina, at the age of 70.
He was faced with difficulties. Ralph forgot to renew his visa, the only proof of his identity and had to live without a legal identity for months. Although he stayed in America with Theresa and Helen, he began to show “typical american” qualities such as lying and cheating his way through life. Ralph once said, “Money. In this country, you have money, you can do anything. You have no money, you are nobody. You are Chinaman. Is that simple” (Jen 199), this quote is only the beginning of Ralph’s detrimental
Music was very important to the family and his early music lessons were given by his aunt Sophy, who was his mothers sister. He wrote his first piano piece when he was six, called The Robin’s Nest . Ralph and his siblings would play duets together and all were good students. It soon came time for Ralph to go to school so he followed his brother Hervey to preparatory school at Rottingdean near Brighton in 1883. He liked the music teachers there very much and was introduced to J.S. Bach. He learned the violin and soon became good enough to know Raff's Cavatina by heart. In 1887 Ralph became a student at Charterhouse school near Godalming in Surrey where he remained until 1890, he was fourteen at the time. Here he organized concerts and wanted to pursue Viola but his family disagreed and chose the organ for him instead.
They way that Ralph talks about his father throughout the novel shows what respect he has for him. It also shows what kind of person he would seem to be outside of this island. His father being a naval officer obviously had a great impact on Ralph’s life and it shows through the way he speaks of him. (pg.13) “He’s a commander in the Navy. When he gets leave he’ll come and rescue us.” This is one of the many examples of how much respect he has for his father.
Ralph’s power at the beginning is secure but as the group succumbs to their savage instincts, Ralph’s influence declines as Jack’s rises. This is due mainly to the cruelty and violence that goes on in the story. This cruelty reveals that Ralph’s commitment to civilization and being rescued is so strong that he will not allow himself to change his morals and become cruel like the others. The cruelty in this novel also shows that Ralph is a very intelligent character. His intelligence can be proven because there was a point in the novel when he hunts a boar for the first time and he experiences the thrill of bloodlust. He also attends one of Jack’s feast where he is swept away by the frenzy and participates in the killing of Simon. This is a very tragic moment for Ralph because this is when he realizes the evil that lives within himself and every human being. It is the cruel acts that happen in this novel that reveals Ralph’s character of being intelligent and being able to think deeply about human experiences. He even weeps when getting saved because of his knowledge about the human capacity for

Ralph is only 12 years old, but he has a conscience and is a responsible leader. He tries very hard to create and organize some kind of working order. Ralph realizes that he needs to treat the boys with respect in order to earn respect. In the novel, Golding has Ralph spending most of his time running after Jack, trying to prevent him from making a mess with everything. Jack wants to Ralph to lead by fearing the boys into doing what they
Ralph has low self-esteem and views himself as a person who has a temper, lives at a dump, has no friends or connections with other characters outside of work, and a person who wrecks things. Even though Ralph is the best at wrecking things he still gets no recognition for being the best, but only recognition for being a “bad guy”. Ralph does not understand why Felix is praised for doing an outstand job, whereas, Ralph also does an outstanding job. Ralph mention in his support group that he would also enjoy getting a pie or a medal because he wants more out of life than to just be the “bad guy”.
Before the island he was not a leader he was just a school boy. Once Ralph’s plane crashed on the island he was the leader to all the boys. Ralph said that they had to do things right. The boys agreed and said “We’ve got to have rules and obey them. After all, we’re not savages… So we’ve got to do the right things.” (Golding 42) Everyone thought Ralph has this good leader, and he was till the environment changed him. At first he was disgusted with Jack and how he was obsessed with killing the Pig. But over time he changed and started to hunt with Jack. He even participated in the pig rituals the book says “Ralph too was fighting to get near, to get a handful of vulnerable flesh. The desire to squeeze and hurt was over-mastering… ‘That was a good game.””(Golding 115) After the first pig was killed Ralph started to participate in the pig hunts with Jack. Ralph also helps in the killing of
After a long day of work, all I wanted to do was sleep. I had paid five cents to spend the night, and I intended to make good use of it. I was resting in the Bayard Street tenement in the year 1889. I was willing to endure the crowded, unsanitary, and non-private room because it was all I could afford; you do what you can to survive. The six other single men, beat from a long day of back-breaking work, were already sleeping or resting against the wall. The lack of bunks meant that I would be sleeping on the floor. I am lucky. A room down the hall had twelve men and a woman occupying it. I am even more better off than the homeless children forced to live on the streets and in alleys. All of our possessions and our bodies themselves made the
Louis Comfort Tiffany is one of America’s most acclaimed artists that began his career as a painter working under the influence of George Inness and Samuel Colman. Johns Hopkins was born in 1795, then when Johns was 17, his mother sent him to work for his Uncle in Baltimore, speaking to her son just before he left, his mom said to him "Thee has business ability." After working for his uncle, Johns went into business for three years with his friend and his 3 brothers, calling the business The Hopkins Brothers. The business shipped whiskey into Baltimore in exchange for staple supplies that were shipped back to Western whiskey makers, they sold this whiskey under the name Hopkins Best.
...nd ego because he finds something that is not conventionally used as a contacting device and uses it to aid in sanity and survival. Also the idea of holding meetings and giving others a chance to express themselves is an adult like trait as well. All in all Ralph is a integral part of this haphazard society due to his perfect balance of ego and rationality and leadership skills, and may have possibly been the guiding figure in times of turmoil.
If someone is being picked on by the other boys he will stand up for them, knowing it is the right thing to do, he is very mature in his ways and has a strong moral compass. His life smarts and good intuition help him, he realized that their biggest hope of being rescued was by a ship seeing a smoke stack, by keeping the fire going. He organized different shifts for the boys to rotate keeping the fire going. When Jack decided to go hunting and let the fire burn out while a ship passed Ralph was furious because all the work he had done, to have that opportunity taken away by Jack’s immaturity; something had to be done. Ralph confronted Jack to try to set him straight and make sure that he would never disobey the rules again. This was the one and only time he didn’t try to please everyone, he was so livid with Jack that it didn’t matter what people thought, he needed to call out Jacks’ irresponsible actions, because of this I believe that Ralph became more sure of himself as a leader.
He changed the game up by designing neckties with a wider cut, branding them under his companies name "Polo" and distributing them to major stores like Bloomingdale's. Lauren was able to take his business to the next level with a $30,000 loan, this gave him the opportunity to develop a full men's line. Ralph Lauren designed Olympic uniforms for Team USA, which caused issues when the competitors realized that their uniforms were made in China.
