A Raisin in the Sun,written by Lorraine Hansberry, is about an African-American Family,the Youngers, during the 1950’s-1960’s. The story is set in Chicago and talks about a family that wants to live the American dream but run into trouble along the way. I believe that the Youngers do have an American dream and they definitely go through hard times but find a way out. Mama wants to move out of their crappy apartment. Walter, the son, wants to open a liquor store with two of his friends, Willy and Bobo, but he isn’t make enough money as a chauffeur.Beneatha,the daughter, wants to be a doctor after an accident that happened when she was little.Ruth, the wife of Walter, is trying to keep the Youngers together. Travis, Ruth and Walter’s son, wants When Willy ran off with what was left of the insurance money, Asagai asked her if she wanted to go back to his home in Africa to meet his family and she was hesitant at first but then decided she could be a doctor in Africa and help families and kids there. Although, Walter on the other hand got the short end of the straw because his American Dream was stolen from him by his friend Willy. They we’re gonna meet up and take a train to go make an offer for their liquor store but sadly when they got their Willy had been long gone and probably used his money for himself. This didn’t help Beneatha because some that was for her to become a doctor. Ruth ran into a bump in the road when she found out she was pregnant and decided to have an abortion because she thought there wasn’t enough room in their tiny cramp apartment. But when she discovers that they are moving into a house, she changes her mind on the abortion. She does a good job of trying to keep the Youngers together and from not falling apart. Though her and Walter stated having a falling apart moment for some of the play, they started coming back together when the buying of the house was
