Benicio Monserrate Rafael Del Toro Sanchez is a Latin American actor born in Puerto Rico. He was one of two boys and both of his parents were lawyers in Puerto Rico. Although Benicio had few lead roles, he won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor as well as other accolades for different films throughout his career. Del Toro set his mind out to do what he felt passionate about and became renown as one of the most popular Latin American actors in the late 1990’s and early 2000’s. Only a year after that, Del Toro starred in a James Bond film “License to Kill” as a henchman, Dario, to the main villain. Del Toro was only twenty one years of age at the time making him the youngest person to ever be casted as a Bond villain in franchise history. Unfortunately, the Bond film was one of the disappointing movies of the franchise going against tough competition during the summer of its release. Del Toro went on to act in The Indian River, Money for Nothing, Fearless, China Moon, and Christopher Columbus: The Discovery. Del Toro’s performance in The Usual Suspects earned himself an Independent Spirit Award for Best Supporting Actor, and the movie went on to win an Oscar for Best Writing, Screenplay Written Directly for the Screen. Del Toro continued to act in independent films throughout the next several years. Del Toro’s first commercial movie was The Fan starring Robert De Niro, where Del Toro played an arrogant Spanish baseball star. In 1997, Del Toro shot his first movie as the leading actor when he was specifically chosen by Alicia Silverstone for the movie Excess Baggage. His second leading role was with Johnny Depp in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. “To me if there’s an achievement to lighting and photography in a film, it’s because nothing in the film stands out, it all works as a piece.” (Roger Deakins, cinematographer of True Grit) In the 2010 adaptation of Charles Portis’ novel, True Grit, the directors, Ethan and Joel Coen, and Roger Deakins display the beauty of cinematography within the movie. And although the film was nominated for ten Academy Awards, it did not win any! It most certainly deserves to win based on the film’s use of editing, camera movement and framing, and lighting and sound.

Latinos look up to other Latinos and when they see other Latinos that have succeeded then they feel that they too can succeed in whatever they put their mind to. George Lopez is a Mexican American comedian and actor. He serves as a great role model for every Latino. He went through a lot of tough situations that made his life hard. George Lopez has not only served as a great example of a Latino accomplishing his goals through hard circumstances, but he has never forgotten where he comes from, he has always given back to the community and has also represented the Latino community in the United States in a positive way.

Robert Rodriguez is highly known for El Mariachi, Desperado, Once Upon a Time in Mexico, and the Spy Kids movies. By looking at each of these movies separately, we can see how Robert Rodriguez developed as a director. From El Mariachi to Spy Kids, we are able to see that Rodriguez stays close to his roots by casting mostly Hispanic actors/actresses, and we can begin to understand why not all movies need big budgets to be successful.

despite him being my favorite director and I just watched it few weeks ago. By watching that film you can see his unique style and the technique he used to shot that film which is amazing.
Although in English, the Spanish lingua is there in the names, songs, and colloquialisms. Another similar characteristic of Latin America is rhetoric. The main patriarchal figure, Don Federico, best embodies this. Bill Murray's character also uses devices like metaphors but does not have the same. Possibly even more important than language to Latin Americans is music.
