Radical Radiated Tortoise The endangered animal that I decided to learn about was the Radiated Tortoise. I just thought that this animal would be interesting to find facts about. I found a lot of things about the Radiated Tortoise that I wouldn’t have guessed just by looking at it. I mainly picked this animal because turtles are my second favorite animal. I learned many different things such as what the tortoise eats, what habitat the tortoise lives in, fertilization, the physical appearance, why the Radiated Tortoise is decreasing in numbers, and many other facts that I found interesting. All of the facts I found from the different sites were very cool and different. I learned that grazing makes up about 80% of the Radiated Tortoise’s diet. …show more content…
The tortoise prefers to live in dry areas of brush, thorns, forests, or the woodlands of Southern Madagascar. The tortoises only like to live in the dry areas with vegetation. The tortoises can be found in Southern Madagascar's spiny forests. “ The tortoise is restricted to southern areas of the Madagascar island.” (n.a. A-z animals.com). “ During cold weather tortoises are kept closely together.” (John L. Behler tortoise.org) It can vary on how many eggs from the female tortoise actually ends up hatching. Breeding also can depend on if the tortoise has an healthy diet. Breeding happens between the rainy spring months of March and June. “ Hatchlings emerge within a few weeks of one another at the onset of the next rains.” (n.a. eol.org). “ Eggs are laid only in the wet season.” (n.a …show more content…
The pattern on the tortoise's back is often referred to as “The Star”. Due to the many shades of colors the tortoise often can appear to be the color of red or orange. The young radiated tortoises have a more white than yellow pattern. Tortoises commonly have a dark patch on top of their heads. All radiated tortoises have a high dome bumpy shell. The tortoise's shell is more pyramidal compared to normal tortoises. “ The tortoise has a average turtle shape, a domed carapace, blunt head, and the elephantine feet.” (n.a. animal diversity.org). The radiated tortoise is sometimes considered to be one of the most beautiful tortoises in the world. But as the individual's age, the darkly colored pigment washes out and creates a lighter colored

The Longnose gars reproduction depends on location that the gar is found in. The reproduction does typically happen during the spring or summer months and all dependent on what the water temperature. The female gar will swim into a small, fast moving stream and lay their eggs (Goddard). The Longnose gar eggs are not just normal eggs that most people think of when they think of fish eggs. Their eggs are green and sticky so they can stick to the plants in the fast moving stream (
Habitat: Partially or completely open country, around mountains, hills, and cliffs. They use many different habitats ranging from arctic to desert, some include tundra, shrub lands, grasslands, coniferous forest, farmland and rivers or streams. They can be found in Mexico, North America, Alaska, and sometimes Asia, northern Africa, and Europe. They nest in high places such as cliffs, trees, or human structures. They build huge nests that they may return to for several breeding years.
Loggerhead sea turtles, scientifically labeled Carretta carretta, are the most global nesting turtle species and the most abundant in United State’s waters. While they are not nesting, they travel through open ocean water, spending time searching for food and resting on the sea floor. These turtles were nicknamed Loggerheads because of their large heads and strong jaw needed to break the shells of crustaceans. Loggerheads have the largest nesting range of any sea turtle, inhabiting the Atlantic, Indian, and Pacific oceans (Spotila, 2004).

Though there are areas where it is known that skinks reside in the Blue Mountains and the Newnes Plateau, the skink is thought to also live in a range around one to ten kilometers (up to six miles) outwards of areas where it is commonly sighted.
Fresh Water turtles are small, yet amazing creatures to have and care for in your home. River Cooters, Red Eared Sliders, and Painted turtles are all common pet’s found in America. Though turtles are fun to have around they do require special care just like any other pet would. In most cases they make great pets but turtles aren’t the easiest pets to have so depending on your lifestyle you should think about how much time you’re willing to put into a turtle. They are usually cheap to buy yet the equipment for your turtle can get expensive. Along with cost you must find the time to put into this pet. They need nice set ups to live in as well as attention and proper handling.
The birds have obviously had a run in with the tortoise in the past and there was no way they would trust him. The tortoise basically told the birds that he has changed and he is not like he used to be. The ...
It is said that in order to protect the wildlife, we need to be educated about the wildlife that inhabits our planet. As humans, and the superior species on Earth, we put exotic animals, aquatic and terrestrial, in zoos or aquariums where people can go to see them to learn more about them in order to protect them. It just so happens that by putting these animals into captivity, we are causing more damage to them, just as damage is occurring in the wild and more species are becoming extinct. Animals should not be held in captivity; it does not save them from going extinct, but helps kill them off.
To my left is the African mammal exhibit. There are so many different creatures displayed, ranging from desert to rainforest. Some of the animals that are displayed are the Arabian Oryx, Savanna Elephant, Spotted Hyena, Hippopotamus and Okapi. When you browse these exhibits you are able to study and learn detailed information. I learned that due to human encroachment, many of these animals are extremely rare and their original environments no longer exist in the world....

If more people are aware of new animals on the endangered species list, there is more of a chance that researchers will get more funds. Zoos also create habitats for animals on the verge of extinction where otherwise there would be none. There is some controversy between zoos and endangered species. Because of the limited gene pool of a species, the variation is greatly limited. This will –as an end result- lead to inbreeding which will create mutations and defects in the offspring.
In the world today there are about five thousand endangered species. Around one specie dies out every year. Some animals become endangered because people are killing them for their horns, as in the case of the Black Rhino of Africa. Others become extinct because pesticides are put on the food we eat, causing the animals that eat the insects off the plant to become contaminated, which causes their predators to become contaminated, which often affects the shell of that organism?s egg. Here is a list of the endangered species, 91 endangered birds, 76 endangered mammals, 36 endangered reptiles, 21 endangered amphibians, 115 endangered fish, 70 endangered clams, 35 endangered snails, 44 endangered insects, 12 endangered arachnids, 21 endangered crustaceans, 594 endangered flowering plants.
In our world today we have approximately 26,021 endangered species. Endangered species are organisms that may possible become extinct. The term 'endangered species' refers to all species that fits this description. However some conservation biologists and scientists normally use the term ‘endangered species’ to refer to species that are put on the IUCN(International Union for Conservation of Nature)Red List. Many factors can be looked at when considering the conservation status of a species. Factors such as human threats or environmental threats can cause a species to become endangered.
