Racial Injustices

With every generation there is always some kind of injustice that happens. For the 21st generation it is the racial injustices happening around the country, however this paper consists of the injustices within the 19th until today that is happening among women. One of the brave ladies who wanted to fight the female injustices named Simone De Beauvoir stated “a woman is not born, but made” and I do agree with her that a woman is indeed made and not made, however for us to understand this quote we have to define who a woman is and everyone has their own definition. Personally, I define a woman as someone who is strong, independent and not afraid of voicing their opinions. With this definition everyone woman is made depending on what kind of society

of which she was raised. So, for a woman to be made there are different ways in which society makes a woman some of these ways include;
Tradition can be a reason as to why a woman is not born but made.

Some of the traditions within the world need women to be abiding to the men or them dressing in a specific outfit, being able to do housework or even not going to college. For some women they do take their tradition seriously since it is the only thing that they know, so for them breaking a tradition can be considered something heinous. So, for them to survive in that community they need to keep up that tradition. Someone who opposes that women are indeed born and not made might say that men also respect tradition of which they were born into although, that might true men do can break that rule whenever they want and they would not be scrutinized by their family or even with the

society.
Some people view a woman as someone who are strong and independent. For the majority of time people think that being weak is one of the specs of being a woman, so with them seeing an independent lady who is successful and is not married they consider it as breaking the rules to society. When a woman is brought into society, they say that they should be emotionally unstable. For example, being able to change the tires, having the best job position instead of the men like the CEO position or even the executive. This shows that woman can be made into whatever she wants, however some women do not want to live the life of men. Although some people might argue that an independent woman is not made they are either born independent in that it is within their genetics for them to be independent. The opposing team might argue that a woman is not strong for the reason being they think with their emotions in that they get to cry about every little thing which means no matter how much they try to mask their weakness by body building or even going to the gym, they will always end up showing their emotions.
Furthermore, we are labelled before birth and after birth. For the majority of times before a woman gives birth, she is usually asked if she knew or knows the sex of the baby and she did she is asked if she has chosen a name for it. For most cases, if the baby was a boy they always gave them clothing or painted his room blue while for females their property were pink. This kind of mentality puts a lot of pressure on the mother to make sure they give their baby a name that is more gender appropriate. When the name is given then the baby is trained according to her gender or even according to her name just to make sure that when the baby grows up they will not be bullied because of the name of which the parents chose for them. If they chose a name that is meant for boys then they are going to be bullied.
Even more a woman is made by the mask of which she wears every day this kind of mask includes wearing of makeup, looking skinny etc. which would help with self-representation. This is shown when a woman is expected to look a certain for instance, in designer clothing, have the perfect body which usually consists of flat stomach, no cellulite or even wrinkles. As mentioned in the article The Problem With no Name “department store buyers reported that American women since 1939 had become three sizes smaller”. Meaning since department stores were not making clothes for those who are plus size for the reason being the ideal woman is usually skinny it means women should watch what they eat that is if they want to go shopping for those designer clothing. This usually caused some women to be self-conscious and still they did not talk to anyone about them since they had to be happy for the majority of the time, which means they wore a mask of happiness and yet they were miserable inside
A woman is made not to have radical freedom which means the woman sometimes does not get to choose what she wants to do and how she can do it. For the since the beginning of time if a woman made a decision, it would not consider valid say women were not allowed to vote, or even go to work. This causes them to have more of a problem when they finally decide to voice their opinions e.g. the women of the Middle East are not allowed to go to school, or letting their hair show. This would be considered a restraintment for the women and their freedom is just constricted and that is how they take away their freedom. Someone else can argue that having a radical freedom is not one way on which a woman is made since some countries are fighting a war on which the men want their own freedom. This means that anyone who is fighting the war for radical freedom is a woman? This argument shows that a woman does not have radical freedom if the man decides everything for her.
One of the ways in which a woman is created is that society anticipates on them to be the house cleaner. The beginning of the 19th century most, of the women were considered housewives such that they had to stay home and clean, make dinner and wait for their husbands to return from work. With a lady always doing the house work it means that the men would not learn to do the basic things like learning how to cook or even clean which brings back to the theory of why men are always untidy. And for some cases, men did not even bother to learn how to do the basics of house work especially if they are married
The other way is that women are always told how to dress or the general idea of how a woman should look when she leaves her house. In my culture since I was born in Uganda there was a dress code of how a proper lady should look like for example, she was not allowed to wear short clothing or they would be considered a prostitute. With this kind of mentality it makes it even harder for women to express themselves since they have a tendency to dress similarly to each other. However, those who believe that women are born not made would argue that dressing up does not consider the person, a woman it is the way they act or how they express themselves is what makes them a woman such as, those who act and dress like “tom boys” they are still considered women, despite the way they dress.
One of the other things that makes a woman is what classes a woman is expected to learn during her education lifetime.

In this generation, it is very rare to find women who are involved in science or math courses. For the majority of time the highest number of women in a class include the following subjects English, business courses etc. Although a girl is great at science for most times they will not focus on those classes for the reason being they are afraid to be isolated in that class and if they do end up passing that class they will still get bullied for example they use remarks such as how did she get that grade did she sleep with the teacher to get that great. This kind of pressure causes women not to focus in those classes so they decide to major subjects such as English, business

etc.
People believe that women need to be nice for their hearts which means a woman is not supposed to curse. The ideal woman is a woman who always looks good, kind and also does not curse which means they have to be nice no matter what kind of the day they had. For a woman being made as a child they told to hold our tongue no matter how, although we seem. Within my country for which I was born when a lady cursed she was usually seen as social outcast for the moment and they would start talking about her and they blamed her parents for not raising her the proper way. Moving here still had the same mentality that a lady should not curse and yet the men were allowed to do it.
The women were made for them to accept the double standard within the society itself. In most cases the double standard include men sleeping with different women and they would be considered as something of an accomplishment and yet if women did the same things then they would be considered “sluts”. Being raised a woman means that the men had more of luxury when it came to their lifestyle for instance a man can come home late and not be bothered and yet a woman will be asked a lot of questions as to why they were late. The use of the double standard is something that women just let it happen since they know if they said anything society would not care about it and they would just ignore it.
All in all, women have more of a rough time when it comes to society accepting them especially since it is society that made them that way. So, if a lady has a problem on the way on which she was made then men will not care. Until women stand up and say that they were born a woman and decide on how they want to be made and not society not pressuring them to live a certain life then that would be on less injustice happening within the world or country.
