“Yum-o,” Rachael Ray says when she starts her show. Rachael was born on August 25, 1968 and is 49 years old. When Rachael Ray was just in the first grade, she and her family moved to New York. The school she went to school Lake George Junior-Senior High Pace University school in 1986. Rachael Ray wanted to become a chef because she found out that she had a talent for cooking because she always loved to help her mother cook in the kitchen every day. Now that she has a show of her own, she can cook whatever meal she wants.
Rachael Ray’s show is filmed at Chelsea Television Studios in New York and is a celebrity cook. She has three food network series and appears on the shows 30 minute meals every day of the week. She has food networks for 11
seasons from 2001 to 2012. She likes a easy cooking style and believes that measuring takes away from the creative, “hands-on process of cooking. When Rachael Ray wants kids in her kitchen on her show, she wants to show or teach them how to cook good meals. She also does kids cook off for the kids so that they can have a competition against each other to see who can make that better meal. Rachael was also an author. She writes books and recipes for that meals she makes so that people can make the meals that Rachael makes if they wanted to. Rachael Ray is a really good cook because every since she was younger and helping her mother in the kitchen, Rachael was taught how to make really good meals, and every day she helped her mother cook the better Rachael got at it. Whenever Rachael is about to start her show, she always likes to get all the stuff that she needs to begin cooking her meal. Whenever she starts cooking, she puts a dish cloth on her shoulder. Rachael Ray can cook all kinds of meals. She can also make some really good desserts.
Natalie Wood, who born in San Francisco, was an American film and television actress. Wood is married from Robert Wagner, and they have three children. Natalie Wood died on November 29, 1981, and no one knows how exactly she died. In addition, Wood was with her husband and their friend in the boat, and she argued with Wagner before living the boat. Also, Wood afraid of water her whole life, and she died by drowning on a weekend trip.
Annie Turnbo Malone was an entrepreneur and was also a chemist. She became a millionaire by making some hair products for some black women. She gave most of her money away to charity and to promote the African American. She was born on august 9, 1869, and was the tenth child out of eleven children that where born by Robert and Isabella turnbo. Annie’s parents died when she was young so her older sister took care of her until she was old enough to take care of herself.
The athlete I chose is Natasha Watley. She is a professional softball player and the first African-American female to play on the USA softball team in the Olympics. She’s a former collegiate 4-time First Team All-American who played for the UCLA Bruins, the USA Softball Women’s National Team, and for the USSSA Pride. She helped the Bruins will multiple championships and also holds numerous records and one of the few players to bat at least .400 with 300 hits, 200 runs, and 100 stolen bases. She’s also the career hits leader in the National Pro Fast pitch. She won the gold medal in the 2004 summer Olympics and a silver in the Beijing Olympics. She was inducted into the UCLA Athletics Hall of Fame in 2014.
Ruby Bridges was born on September 8, 1954, in Tylertown, Mississippi. When she lived in Mississippi her parents shared cropped lands with her grandparents. When Ruby was six years old her mom thought about her education and wanted to move. In 1960 Abon and lucille (Ruby’s parents) decided to move for a better change in life. Ruby and her parents moved to a good part of town where there would be less discrimination and hate in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Rosie the riveter was the face of recruiting women into the Armed Forces during WWII. The increasing demand for soldiers was not being filled fast enough by just males. As a result, between the years 1940 and 1945, the percentage of female service members increased from 27% to 37%. Even on the civilian side of things, the ratio of married working women outside of their homes increased to one out of every four. The population of women that did not join the war was prompted by Rosie the Riveter’s iconic image to work in one of the many munitions industries throughout the US. In 1943, not only had the female population contributed exponential numbers in support of the war; but women had begun to dominate. Reports indicate that more than 310,000 women worked in the U.S. aircraft industry; this made up more than half of the total workforce. Prior to this moment in history, women’s involvement in the aircraft industry was merely one percent.
One famous quote from Barbara Jordan is “If you’re going to play a game properly, you’d better know every rule .” Barbara Jordan was an amazing woman. She was the first African American Texas state senator. Jordan was also a debater, a public speaker, a lawyer, and a politician. Barbara Jordan was a woman who always wanted things to be better for African Americans and for all United States citizens. “When Barbara Jordan speaks,” said Congressman William L.Clay, “people hear a voice so powerful so, awesome...that it cannot be ignored and will not be silenced.”
Betty Marion White was born on January 17, 1922 in Oak Park, Illinois. She is the only child of Horace and Tess White, an electrical engineer and a house wife. At the age of two her and her family moved to Los Angeles. Betty White graduated from Beverly Hills High School California, in 1939 at 17. Betty started modeling they same year she graduated. She first did various radio shows in the 40s. But her first TV show was on Hollywood in Television in 1949. Whites first produced television show was Life with Elizabeth. "I was one of the first women producers in Hollywood."
Mary Anderson was born in February 19, 1866 in Greene County, Alabama, to John C. Anderson and Rebecca Anderson and was known for her invention of the wiper blade. She was also a real estate developer, rancher, and viticulturist. At the age of four, her father, John C. Anderson, died leaving her sister, Frannie Anderson, and her mother, Rebecca Anderson, living of his estate. In 1889, the three of them moved to Birmingham Alabama to build their own apartment on the corner of Highland Avenue. When Mary was 27 she left Birmingham in order to work in a cattle ranch and vineyard in Fresno, California. In 1900, her aunt was in poor health and she return to live in Birmingham to look after her family. After he aunt's death, her family discovered trucks that her aunt kept locked which contained gold and jewelry. By selling these collections of gold and jewelry, the family was able to live financially comfortable.
Lillia Davidson, my grandma was born mid war, 1940 to Shirley and Ed Kittle. Lillia, her 2 siblings and their parents lived in a small apartment in Glenbrook, Connecticut from 1940 to 1943, her family moved to the Vermont countryside when she was four. Her parents were not rich Shirley was a seamstress and Ed did was was called a civilian job meaning he did not get paid, he would keep an eye out for suspicious plains. Though her dad was not in the war she felt proud that he was helping with the war. Ed’s job of being a spotter become very important after the bombing of Pearl Harbor in 1941. My grandma has no memory of Pearl Harbor because she was so young. Being so young sheltered her from a lot of what was going on at that time.
Growing up in my generation, I have become very passionate about advocacy and peer education. I became passionate about these things as a result of always being the minority in a room of those who know little about different cultures and diversity. I was always surrounded by people who only expanded their minds to what they new and never considered the other sides. In this essay, I will cover three main topics and a poem preceding the last paragraph. In my first paragraph, I will discuss the Romantic Period and the qualities of being a “Romantic’ poet. In the second paragraph, I will discuss the biography of the esteemed Romantic Poet, Robert Burns. Following the second paragraph, I will discuss my thoughts about the Romantic styles and figurative languages found in one of Robert Burns’ poems.
