The book, “The House of the Scorpion” by Nancy Farmer is a 3 time award winner and a fantastic novel in the genre of utopia and dystopia. Matt is a clone saved from the burden of having a blunted intelligence. Evidence from the book supports this was a faulty move. The novel also says why El Patron blunts their intelligence; it's fully out of greed. Overwhelmingly, it seems that these things played a big part in the outcome of the novel, and why Matt is such a interesting, dimensional character in the book.
By examining Roger’s character in Lord of the Flies, I believe that Roger is a symbolic representation of someone who is losing respect for human life and what it has to offer. In the novel Roger does not seem to appreciate others, causing him to act in a disrespectful way towards the other boys and seems to enjoy other people’s pain. This shows that people in society will do negative actions that will affect others, because they are losing respect for human life.

Ray often calls black people ‘nigger’ which we should never. When Lily and Rosaleen; her housekeeper went to the town, they got into the trouble and T. Ray picked Lily up and blames her. “…Couldn’t pick somebody normal? He’s the meanest nigger-hater in Sylvan…” (38). Additionally, when T. Ray comes to try to take her back in Sylvan, he says, “So you’ve been here the whole time, staying with colored women Jesus Christ” (291), like it is a bad thing to stay with them, because it doesn’t necessary to mention people’s race at that circumstance. Old Woman Magoun most likely feels responsible for Lily’s situation and her own daughter’s demise and has learned to fear men as a result of it. She fears the girl’s father because he represents the part of herself that she cannot control, Lily. She has no choice but to give up her granddaughter and she cannot bear to lose her to the man she despises, Nelson Barry. Facing the reality of losing Lily is more than the old woman is readily prepared for.

I think this because the school shooting was caused by other students bullying Valerie and Nick, causing Nick to open fire.
Rosaleen is the disciplinary figure in Lily?s life. She is tough and sometimes mean but really she loves Lily. Lily knew that ?despite her sharp ways, her heart was more tender than a flower skin and she loved her beyond reason?. Rosaleen also shows her love for Lily when she avoids telling Lily that her mother left her. She knew this would break Lily?s heart.
