Compare and contrast Differences are the key development of the United States. In the stories “A Quilt Of A Country” and “Immigrant contribution” “One of America’s characteristics has always been the lack of rigid class structure” (J.F.K 24) we learn that immigration has had a lot of effects on America. This has forever changed our speech, traditions and even some cultures. When the immigrants came they brought their cultures with us, and that has stuck with us many Americans speak many languages and we would not be doing that today if it was not for the native speakers that came over here from their native countries. Once they were here they had to find homes, many immigrants were segregated from certain places because of segregation. People were not tolerating them, in the fact that they did not speak the same language as us, that they did not all look like us and they did not all have the same skin tone. Many people picked and picked because they thought they were somehow above or better than the immigrants, when truly not tolerating the immigrants coming to America made them the people that should not have been tolerated. People had to learn to coexist and tolerate the people they either disliked, or did not get along with. People should not harm each other. In “A Quilt Of A Country” Anna Q taught us that we must tolerate each other. Harming others because we have different beliefs is not alright. In the “The Stories Of An Immigrant Contribution” taught us what happened before people were tolerated. When people have tolerance and they harm others it affects more than just the people intended to harm. When we talk about how other people have felt being attacked by others and still becoming famous and making money it can inspire them into coexisting with others. ...is composed of many subgroups. This assimilation has caused the erosion of most cultural differences among the Hispanic and the Native Americans (Arreola 13). Therefore, these two cultures only compare in terms of their traditional aspects rather than their modern settings.
It is said that these people, “the Goths,” originated from southern Scandinavia, crossed to the southern shore of the Baltic Sea, and then migrated to the Black sea in their search to find a stable home ("Goth." Britannica Concise Encyclopedia). Yet, they were unable to find a place to call home. They searched high and low for solace and peace, and in their search they were discriminated against and victimized, until they retaliated and became the oppressors. Situations where a lot of people of one culture have immigrated into a different country because they also cannot find a place to call home and or do not want their children to grow up in certain circumstances have repeated themselves throughout history and persecution and intimidation on these immigrants still occurs today.
Immigration has always been a major part of America. In fact, without immigration the creation of America would not have been possible. The majority of immigrants came to America for religious freedom and economic opportunities. However, for the most part before the 1870’s most immigrants were Protestants from northern and western Europe. These immigrants often migrated to the United States as families and usually lived on farms with family or friends who had already migrated beforehand. A lot of immigrants came to America with a plan or goal in mind. They often had saved up money for the long immigration overseas, were skilled in a certain trade, or had already been educated at a high level. Sadly, this would not last. Immigration became so prominent in America between 1870 and 1900 that the foreign-born population of the United States had almost doubled. A lot of German and Irish Catholics had immigrated in the 1840’s and 1850’s, and more decided to immigrate after the Civil War. A portion of Americans were biased against Catholics. Thankfully, the Irish spoke English and the German Catholics reputation was improved because of their Protestant countrymen’s good reputation. However, their children often lacked any skill or education, but they were able to blend in quite well with the American society. More and more immigrants would migrate to the United States without any skill or education and on top of that they were usually poor. These immigrants were called “new” immigrants and they came from all over the world including Italy, Greece, Poland, Hungary, and Russia. Many people have come to America for a better life and to get away from all the troubles of their homeland. These immigrants, like those throughout U.S. history, are generally hard workers and make important contributions to the economy through their productive labor and purchasing power. America is considered a melting pot of many diffrent ethinic group. Immigrants should be able to enter America with little if any resistance from any border patrol. Immigrants in america take the low paying, hard labor jobs that , unfortunately, some americans don't want.
Some would say, quotes John F. Kennedy, “Everywhere immigrants have enriched and strengthened the fabric of American life.” Thus, in today’s society, we can say that immigrants are what made America possible—economically and socially. We are in a melting pot era where the impossible was made possible. From the time John F. Kennedy was elected in 1960, making a promise to change the national origins system to unite the nations of all countries equally. Hence, in 1965, under Lyndon Johnson’s administration, Kennedy’s promise came into light, amending the INS—favoring unification of families, not national origins. Although, the unification was made possible, the peacefulness never lasted.
Immigrants leave their countries in search for a better life and improvement of their situation. There is no singular reason for immigration; motivations range from better economic prospects to political safety. As of late, the number of immigrants living in the United States is an estimated 11 million. Those who immigrate are expected to contribute to the United States culturally, politically, and economically. Yet, full assimilation becomes difficult to achieve when the immigrant is made into “the other” by the country of reception.
The differences in cultures lead to the way that each American lives in this present day. Without these differences there probably wouldn't have being such unity that the two cultures witnessed during the revolutionary period. Although there were things that happened that most people condemned to this day, this was a part of history that has helped this country to grow into this great nation that we live in today.

Jails were full, because immigrants were violent animals. Insane asylums were full because, immigrants were not as capable of equal mentality. Almshouses, were full of immigrants because they were lazy, leaching people who wouldn't get jobs. This may sound harsh, but this is how nativists felt. Immigrants were seem and treated like breathing debris that could stepped on without a second thought. However when so many people set so many obstacles against you, it I hard to overcome them and become successful. Immigrants were part of the changes in society, that is true, but they did not cause the change. Civilizations evolve and most people just could not come to terms with that unless they had something to blame.
The main reasons Kidnappings, family fights, wars, for their better futures, and for peaceful lives people had to move away from their own homelands for in the seek of new life on a new place. But if you get a negative response from the welcoming place you either leave that place or stay there and move around with in that country. It’s necessary for every person in this world to treat another person as the same way he will treat his family and it’s the right of the every person in this world to fight for his rights no matter what happens. That person have to face the difficulties of that place where did he move out and get his head up to face the racist people around him.

Immigration is just the action of leaving their own countries and come to live in the new countries. The purpose of immigration were found a new better homeland to survive. There was nothing wrong with wanting to remove to another country for got a better life.
The beauty is that we even share cultures day to day and speak different languages. There is an enormous variety amongst ourselves and there has to be a place here in the states for anyone to enjoy. Today, in most cases, people don’t spend very much time thinking about why the society we live in presently, is the way it is. Most people would actually be surprised about all that has happened throughout America’s history. Many factors have influenced America and it’s society today, but one of the most profound ways was the way the “Old Immigrants” and “New Immigrants” came to America in the early to mid 1800s. Language is universal, but there are different meanings and sounds, which vary from one culture to another. In China citizens speak many languages, but about 94% speak the Chinese language. The difference in dialects was overcome by the written word and eventually a version of Mandrin became the “official speech” (The Cambridge Illustrated History of China, 1996,p.304). In America there are many ethnic groups with many varieties of language. The U.S. was created through many people from different countries migrating to the new states. In the U.S. there is an “official speech” which is the English language. The language of both these countries are not only different in meaning and sound, but also reflect the way in which the people in these societies live, believe, and function.
