The kaa’ba is the Qibla in which Muslims face when praying, and is located in Mecca. It is considered to be a symbol of spiritual and religious unity to Muslims. It is part of the religious rituals in the prayers therefore the structure of mosques depend on the Qibla. Mihrab is a place where prophets are found. It is also defined as the location of the main locations, the most honorable place, and the front. Mihrab is a wall in a mosque that indicates the direction of the Qibla for prayer. The Dome of Rock was built to show the relationship. The decorative aspect of the structure was the very important part of it since it clearly brought out the relationship. The building has hanging crowns in it, and it was considered wrong by some people while others saw it as right (Grabar, 33). A sanctuary or any place of worship was seen as a holy place and therefore it demanded a lot of respect. Abd al-Malik had different reasons for building the Dome. Abd al-Malik, caliph from the Umayyad dynasty, has been an important figure in the Islamic world where he has made major accomplishments in his rule. He has built the Dome of the Rock precisely in Jerusalem because he wanted the religion of Islam to be dominant in that area, also to honor the miraj of Prophet Mohammed. Caliph Abd al-Malik brought two necklaces and two glass cups. This symbolizes that the Dome was built to express it as a holy place, a place where sacrifices by the early prophets had been made.
