A growing population resulted in a greater demand for Great Britain. They were the first to start the Industrial revolution. With their invention of the steam engine transportation of goods and people boomed, railroad, canals, etc. which resulted in a new class system. Before people lived in small communities and their lives revolved around farming, but with the start of the revolution more people and laborers moved to the city which had become urban and industrialized. New banking techniques such as corporations, partnerships, credit, and stocks were invented. Everything used to be made in people’s homes using handmade tools, yet now everything is done in factories using mass production. The three major materials cotton, coal, and iron were the up and coming new products used during the industrial revolution. Cotton was used for the textile industry, coal for steam power, and iron for the new types of transportation. There was also an improvement in living standards for some, but the poor and working people had to deal with bad employment and living conditions. When the laborers moved to the cities clocks and
Representation of the Devil in the film industry is a popular marketing scheme. Most of the time, the representation of such figureheads is evident in films such as Bedazzled (2000) and Constantine (2005). Consequently, some Devil-like figures embody Evil by possessing an individual in films such as Rosemary’s Baby (1968) and The Rite (2011). After searching for two Hell-worthy movies in my personal DVD collection, I stumbled upon The Little Shop of Horrors and The Shining. While one could compare and contrast many aspects, this essay will concentrate on the following: differences between each film and the characters chosen to represent the Devil, the personal Hells associated with each individual, the evil influences and their end goals.
The Victorian Era is a remarkable time in history with the blooming industries, growing population, and a major turnaround in the fashion world. This era was named after Queen Victoria who ruled United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland from June 1837 until she passed away 64 years later in January 1901.When Victoria received the crown, popular respect was strikingly low. The lack of respect for the position she had just come into did not diminish her confidence. Instead she won the hearts of Britain with her modesty, grace, straightforwardness, and her want to be informed on the political matters at hand even though she had no input. She changed Britain into a flourishing country. She also impacted how women interacted during this era based on her personality.
The Victorian Era in English history was a period of rapid change. One would be hard-pressed to find an aspect of English life in the 19th century that wasn’t subject to some turmoil. Industrialization was transforming the citizens into a working class population and as a result, it was creating new urban societies centered on the factories. Great Britain enjoyed a time of peace and prosperity at home and thus was extending its global reach in an era of New Imperialism. Even in the home, the long held beliefs were coming into conflict.

Britain built a global empire with global markets (Swisher 1). The social revolution was embedded in the industrial revolution, which England pioneered (Swisher 2). “T“They showed the rest of Europe and young United States how to develop global markets and a manufacturing economy that raised the standard of living for nearly all citizens” (Swisher 3). Englishmen at this time of Oscar Wilde began the nation’s economic strength and political strength (Erickson 4). Queen Victoria and Prince Albert were symbols of Britain's national success (Erickson 4).
The increase in population meant that there were more people in surplus from agricultural jobs and they had to find work in industrial factories, which was the basis of the Industrial Revolution. One of the darker causes for the Industrial Revolution was the slave trade with overseas colonies at the time. For many merchants who saw the easy money to be made from the voyages, the merchants became extremely rich – and as it is in human nature – these rich merchants wanted to become even more rich, the seemingly best way to do this was to invest profits from the slave trade into the new factories that were arising, this is called “Commercial Revolution”. Britain was one of the few countries that was able to bring in profits from other countries and keep profits in their country, aiding them into being the first country to Revolutionise Industrially. The new invention of steam power was one of the great motives for the beginning of the Industrial Revolution, steam was used to power many of the machines, thus with the invention of steam power, the Industrial Revolution was powered onwards.
Great Britain’s imperialism and colonization of the majority of the world allowed the nation to gain access to a variety of natural resources, and increased revenue through taxes. It also greatly increased trade, as Great Britain opened up trade paths, and took control of many trade industries which greatly boosted the economy. With a stronger economy and increased money flow, there was an increase in consumer goods which was benefited by the fact that families had more money to spend on goods. In addition, there were higher wages, which was an incentive for people to innovate and join the workforce. The economy also experienced an increase with the rapid population growth of the seventeenth, eighteenth, and nineteenth centuries, which led to a larger work force, allowing the innovations of the Industrial Revolution to become major manufacturing tools and to create factories and assembly lines. This imperialism, and thus boosted economy led directly to the Industrial Revolution, and allowed Great Britain to develop more

... the era brought with it a change to the people of England and the globe. Thanks to England’s ideas of their responsibly and rights to the rest of the world, civilization as we know it would never be the same. Just like this change impacted England, the effects of Queen Victoria’s ruled shaped the world as it is now. One cannot imagine much less chart how different things would be if it were not for Queen Victoria’s influence on global economy, philosophy, biology, geology, psychology, religious beliefs, etc. Thanks to her and her support of reform from the Industrial Revolution, even the most simple of things that people take for granted today would not exist like being able to call it a day after eight hours of work, overtime pay, healthy and safe working conditions, and rights to defend themselves against unfair practices both in the workplace and out of it.
