There are many qualities to an outstanding educator. The most important qualities include experience, the ability to adapt classroom materials to highlight each student's abilities, incorporation of cross-curricular standards, empathy for each individual student, parental involvement, and cooperation amongst other teachers and the administration. All of these qualities also together create a positive learning environment for the students. The primary skill of an outstanding educator is experience. Although a college education provides you with the basic skills to teach students in a classroom, it does not compare to what personal experiences and years of teaching service bring to the job. Growing up and living in a community that is focused on balancing family, school, work, community responsibility, and the importance of child development brings even more wisdom into the classroom. This allows teachers to emphasize what is important for the specific demographics of that particular district to learn. As mentioned above, years of service contribute to being an outstanding educator as well. The ability to adapt classroom materials comes over time with years of …show more content…
Science graciously allows for this as we use this subject as the foundation to problem solve for real-life situations. History, math, technology, and language arts are just a few specific subject areas that are easily incorporated. History forms the groundwork of science, when it was created and how it has advanced. Math can and should be incorporated while solving equations, measuring, evaluating data, and identifying comparisons between different substances. Utilizing technology as a research tool leads to an endless amount of information to learn from and discover ongoing theories. Language arts allows students to practice writing and composition techniques as they formulate their research results and respond in
Chapter one of Ten Traits of Highly Effective Principals opens with one of the most influential traits of what an effective principal should possess, the communication trait. To be successful in any venue in life, you must be able to communicate with people; this is especially true in the education world. Principals are responsible for communicating with people in all walks of life, parents, students, teacher, administrative office personnel and the general public, as an administrator, you must make each of these individuals feel a sense of trust and belonging while communicating with them. Principals use conversations and gesture to build confidence and open lines of communication for learning and growth.

In chapter two of Ryan Cooper’s textbook, Those Who Can, Teach, he lists eight characteristics of an effective school: “[1] high expectations for student performance, [2] communication among teachers, [3] a task orientation among the staff, [4] the ability to keep students on task, [5] the expenditure of little time on behavior management, [6] the principal’s instructional leadership, [7] the participation of parents, and [8] the school environment” (51). While all eight characteristics above greatly contribute to a school’s overall success, some characteristics have a greater ability to affect the success of a given school. Educators Wong and Wong point out that research consistently says effective teachers exhibit three characteristics: 1) they are good classroom managers, 2) they teach for learning and mastery, and 3) they have positive expectations (8-10). Because I believe the foundation of school effectiveness relies on teachers, I consider the characteristics with a focus on effective teacher-to-student interaction most important. Taken from the list above, those characteristics are (1) teachers who exhibit high expectations for student performance, (3) a task orientation among the teaching staff, and (4) the ability to keep students on task.
...ativity, and teamwork in our classrooms. These are the qualities needed to excel and succeed into adulthood, which should be our ultimate goal as educators.
For the veteran teacher interview, I interviewed my mother, Christine. She has worked at the Shield Institute for twenty-four years as a Special Education Teacher. As both a mother and a teacher, she has always been a source of inspiration in my life. Her dedication, love for children, and extensive knowledge have persevered throughout her career and served as her strength. This interview was much more informal and comfortable than the first, given the fact that I have a personal relationship with the interviewee. However, that didn’t make the interview any less important or valuable as a source of strength and motivation.
Being a teacher is not an easy task as many people could think. To be a teacher does not only imply to know the subject to be taught, it also includes being willing to constantly improve oneself integrally, as much as updating the resources and materials one uses in teaching. Reflecting and analyzing over and over again the best way to teach to learn and how to make students to extend what has been learned. The many hours spend in the classroom will never be enough to plan lessons, prepare materials, review pupils tasks and exams, as well, all the administrative requirements one has to cover for whatever institution we work. Besides all this a good teacher, a professional one, will have to find the time to keep preparing to improve oneself.
Many people on this earth grow up saying they would like to make a difference in this world. However, half of those people do not feel like putting in the work in order to do so. As an elementary education major, making a difference is one of the main goals. There are many benefits of becoming a teacher, and students benefit as well. In order to have many students successfully graduate from one grade to the next a teacher should be willing to put in as much work that is needed. Elementary school is where children are set up for the rest of their education. It is important to understand how to go into this career field, becoming a teacher has its own benefits, and the children are able to benefit from teachers.
I chose education as my career path because I hope to be able to make a small difference in a child’s life. Time and time again I have seen children being educated poorly and/or not having appropriate role models in their life. I feel that an educator must not only be able to convey to the student the classroom material, but also be a counselor, coach, mentor, and a parent. Failing to fulfill these roles gives a child the chance to slip through the educational system without having the opportunity to influence them to some degree.
William Arthur Ward wrote: The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates. The great teacher inspires. (Koch, 2012) This powerful statement talks about the goodness of fit. This is the qualities of a person that makes them feel qualified to pursue a career in teaching. As a teacher I will be responsible for the next generation of the world so I must make sure that I possess the qualities that will inspire them. As an educator you must make sure that you are able to be a centered presence. I feel that I embody this because I have worked with youths for many years in an out of a class setting. I also have the pleasure of taking a group of 12 adult students and teaching them how to become effective leaders.
An effective teacher will excite, inspire and motivate students to be active in their learning, investigate new areas of knowledge and make connections to future learning (Whitton et al 2010). When a teacher is successful, their students are motivated, mutually respectful and ready to build on their knowledge and solve real-world problems. To be a teacher of value, one must have many skills and qualities to cater for a diversity of learners and their individual development; this includes many personal traits that are noticed students.
There are many things which make a teacher great and they all can`t be defined. However i`ve always considered several of them essential. In my opinion a good teacher is someonewho first of all creates interest in studying, doesn`t underestimate the children, has equal expectations of siccess from everyone and last but not least likes his job.
There are several main characteristics that every teacher needs to have to be a great teacher. A great teacher respects students(Orlando,Web). In every teachers classrooms, every students opinions and ideas are highly valued. Students need to be able to feel safe to fully express their feelings and
Passion: This seems to be the most obvious quality for me. Of course you need to love teaching and helping learners grow in order to be effective. Nothing done for a pay-check can be done well and it needs to be considered that teachers lay the ground work for a child’s LIFE, that responsibility should not lie in the hands of someone who is unhappy within their career as a teacher.
It is said that teachers teach not only from books, but also from life itself. That in school we learn not only lessons from books, but lessons from the heart and soul as well. Those lessons, the lessons that teach us to understand ourselves and others, are what truly impact our lives. Countless teachers have advised students under their tutelage on various life changing matters. However, there is one teacher who stands prominently in the forefront of my mind as teaching me the most important lessons one could ever hope to learn. Mrs. C was a sixth grade substitute mathematics teacher, who was Russian and as such occasionally fell out of proper English, and she taught me something nonpareil.
One good quality a teacher should have is, respect for the students. Each person’s ideas and opinions should be valued and not judged. They should be able to express themselves without feeling insecure. Another good quality is, having high expectations for your students. Each student should be encouraged to do their best and achieve goals that they may have never met before. Another good quality is, I believe a teacher should have is good communication skills. They should keep not only the students informed on what is going on in the class, they should definitely keep the parents informed as well. Teachers need to know how to communicate with all their students because some are at different levels than others.
