Timothy introduces himself to Cindy and Jim, and they took him to take a shower. They soon phone the police to report a missing child, but in the midst of the conversation, Jim saw a disturbance in the garden where they planted the box. He hung up and went running to Cindy and soon after they came to the realization that the child came from the ground, reciting, “of fifty-four possible girl name, and one boy name, Timothy,” this child was for them. This magical inclusion from Disney part is not foreign, yet is represents a twist on how the world operates and ways in which we get what we want. However, the authoritative parenting style they pose often seemed selfish. The hope and wishes they held for Timothy were often influenced by families which they would brag. Disney is showing that parents that push their child often neglect the kids own personal happiness. On the other hand, Jim’s father, Big Jim was authoritarian, he shows little affection, and was very strict and set high demand for Jim from a child, until now. In Tanner research, eight of fifteen Disney films shows a father figure of being disciplinarians, aggressive and controlling (Tanner 363) The portrayal of older characters in Disney animated films also back it up where children saw older characters in a negative manner rather than positive. (Robinson 203). Disney as a social agent reinforces stereotypes because older character often depicted based their health, physical depiction, and personality description (Robinson 206). Because they often see mean grandparents or older characters in the films, they are likely to view older people in their lives in the same light. Though Big Jim presence is mostly unpleasant, the importance of him being their shows contrary to the studies of grandmothers outnumbering grandfather five to three in their grandchildren lives (Seccombe 309). Parenting in the film is also shown with who can qualify as a parent. Cindy introduces her aunt and uncle as the ones who raised her rather than her biological parents, along with her sister who has a family of her own. The role of extended family and their assistance in parenting is shown throughout the entire film. The diversity of families and parenting styles in the film is parallel to reality because of the complexity regarding real families.
