World Cup 2022 investigation
Qatar’s successful bid to host the world’s greatest sporting activity in the year 2022 has been countered by a lot of criticism. For example, a Norwegian newspaper called the decision as a big joke of all the time in the football history with some commentators expressing their views that Qatar literally stole the world cup. This criticism has attracted interest of many people to scrutinize whether the whole exercise was carried out in a most transparent manner and whether the decision arrived at was the best among the available options. As a result of this interest and curiosity, The Daily Telegraph reported that there are traces of some information that hint to possibilities of occurrence of some irregularities in the selection exercise. Emails and documents alleging to bribery acts have been discovered and thus an investigation by the FIFA ethics committee and FBI, to ascertain the claims, have been launched.
According to the report by the Daily Telegraph, it is revealed that Jack Warner, who was not only one of the most experienced person in the FIFA administration, but also the most influential in the selection committee that declared Qatar the host for 2022 world cup, was involved in bribery acts. The report discloses that Warner was personally paid, through his Jamad Company, an estimated $1.2 million by Kemco Company that is associated with Qatar official Bin Hammam, who is a Qatar national and a former executive member of the FIFA committee. The report also reveals some documents that show Warner’s sons also received $750,000 payment from the same company and his employees too received $400’000 in the same transactions. There are a number of documents with one claiming that the payment is for ...

...gations surround the 2022 selection bidding process. Without any doubt it can be concluded that the process was flawed and the FIFA due process of carrying out the exercise was greatly violated. In the football industry, world cup is an important event that gathers people from all parts of the world together. Therefore, there is a dear need to ensure that every decision made regarding the same is has been made for the common good of all and not for a few individuals. The cases of corruption reported and ascertained by the various investigations prove that perhaps Qatar did not win the bid in a transparent manner and thus this bid needs to be revoked. Revocation of this bid will continue to build the credibility of FIFA as a world’s football governing body and perhaps prevent such kind of acts in the future. Additionally, there is enough time to call for a fresh bid.
Foer vowed to show us how the game of soccer can impact different regions and cultures. He indicated us how these relationships (between different nations and beliefs), while there, are hard to apprehend on the global scale. But trough soccer, these relationships reveal themselves in a hesitant fashion.
Professional sports, like most of our popular culture, can be understood only partly by through its exiting plays and tremendous athletes. Baseball and football most of all are not only games anymore but also hardcore businesses. As businesses, sports leagues can be as conniving, deceitful, and manipulative as any other businesses in the world. No matter what the circumstances are, it seems that Politicians are always some how right around the corner from the world of sports. These Politicians look to exploit both the cultural and the economic dimensions of the sports for their own purposes. This is what is known in the sports industry as “playing the field”.
Franklin Foer wrote “From How Soccer Explains the World: An Unlikely Theory of Globalization” which was published in 2004. The book talks about different aspects of globalization and “culture wars”. Franklin is an American journalist who used to work as an editor of The New Republic. He belongs to a family of writers as one of his younger brothers is a novelist and the other is a freelance journalist. In his book Franklin elucidated the impact of globalization on the society. He has used soccer to elaborate the main ideas in the text and because of this link between globalization and soccer, the book has fascinated several sportspersons. Furthermore, this chapter is branching out into three parts and each part scrutinizes a different aspect
The General assembly has only two options to vote, while following the rules that they were given (“Bautista” para. 3). The FIFA’s executives and Officials days of freedom are numbered. Since May 2015 evidence has been released that can incriminate the sixteen members involved in the FIFA scandal. New evidence is released weekly about the FIFA corruption scandal and there comes a point where the arrest need to start to help the organization get passed the scandal. The questions at the start of the investigation were is FIFA actually corrupted? Did FIFA accept bribes during the World Cup voting process? Now the questions have shifted towards when will Sepp Blatter resign or get convicted? Will more evidence get uncovered in the upcoming weeks that will convict more FIFA officials? And can anyone be trusted to run FIFA? FIFA’s problems began with the president’s
Soccer was globalized when the FIFA World Cup was established in 1928. Being the single most watched sporting event in the world, the World Cup is a way to bring the world together in a delightful way. According to FIFA’s website, “It fulfills FIFA’s objectives to touch the world, develop the game, and build a better future through a variety of ways.” They also mention, “As of mid-2007, FIFA has grown to include 208 member associations, thus making it one of the biggest and certainly the most popular sports federation in the world” (“FIFA World Cup”). The World Cup has been held every four years since the inaugural tournament in 1930, except in 1942 and 1946 when WWII stopped it from being held (“FIFA World Cup”). Countries compete against each other in these tournaments in a process of elimination until one country comes out on top and is titled champion.
Football or Soccer is a sport which is played worldwide and is very popular in all ages of people and everyone regardless of their cultural backgrounds. It is controlled by an International body known as FIFA. My topic is Racism in football which is a very popular and important cause in today's date. All of the associations around the world which control football and everything related to it are introducing the best strategies that they can to get rid of racism from this beautiful game. My research is going to address about the level, effects, reasons and information and incidents which the victims had to face due to this discrimination that they had to deal with. Racism is not something new in football, it has been there in the sport since a really long time and initiatives taken to resolve this problem have
Politics is the art or science of government or governing, especially the governing of a political entity, such as a nation, and the administration and control of its internal and external affairs. The Olympic Games is an event held every 4 years, which includes a variety of sporting activities in which different countries compete against one another. “Sport is frequently a tool of diplomacy”. By sending delegations of athletes abroad, states can establish a first basis for diplomatic relations or can more effectively maintain such relations” (Espy 3). One might think that politics and the Olympics have nothing to do with each other, but in fact, they do have a lot in common.
The FA spent decades, making the game better and developing rules and regulation for the games. The sport was spread all over the world, as far away as Australia and Canada. The FA brand of soccer stayed popular until the establishment of the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) in 1904. Today FIFA, being the sport’s international body consists of more than two hundred nations. All these nations seek to send their best team to the FIFA World Cup every four years (Auerbach). Teams all around the world are already getting ready for the next FIFA World Cup, which is going to be in Russia in the year
Corruption consists in the illegitimate agreement between a corruptor and a corrupted, in which they abuse of their public power in order to obtain personal benefit. Bribery and corruption is something that has been going on for years. According to Allen, “officials perceive themselves as immune to any penalties for demanding and receiving bribes” which she states that it is one of the main reasons for bribery and corruption in underdeveloped countries. According to Transparency International, an organization committed exclusively to end corruption, three of the most corrupt countries in the world are Somalia, North Korea and Afghanistan. This does not mean that corruption is only seen in underdeveloped countries. In international business, corporate employees often find themselves dealing with corruptors in foreign countries and, in most cases, they will give in.
Bribery is wrong, and it would be almost instinctive to point at the benefits of impartially functioning public servants and incorrupt corporations to our democratic society as justification. However, in this imperfect world where bribery is rife in varying degrees, is it possible to express this notion convincingly? Certainly 'because the UK Bribery Act says so' is far less persuasive to a council planning office in Shanghai than in London, and indeed in compliance with section 7 of the Bribery Act 2010 which relates to commercial offences, it is essential that this question is engaged with on a corporate scale and without assertion through dogma. Accordingly, this essay will argue that elements wrong with bribery are inclusive of both moral and economic considerations. Moreover, in conjunction with international mandates, advent of aggressive legislation such as that of the UK Bribery Act 2010 is representative of global efforts to eliminate bribery. Hence, it follows that bribery can never be considered a normal part of business because it is economically unsustainable in the long term.
The Olympics is a mega sport event which is presented once every four years and it has become a golden opportunity for hosts to emerge as a strong country. Hosting the Olympics is a big thing for every country and they receive worldwide attention from the preparation period until the actual event. However, hosting the Olympics comes with heavy stakes and experts tend to argue about the appropriateness for the countries to host it. There may be people who oppose with hosting the Olympics, however, the country rebranding, the economy hike and also the pride and patriotism of citizens just demonstrate the need of hosting the Olympics for the development of the country.
The existence of bribery and unethical behavior is rampant in the world market and may not change overnight. The question of bribery has been distilled in business literature as a question of ethics. In this situation at the airport with the customs officer, it is important to distinguish between business ethics and personal ethics. In a business ethics situation, the Foreign Corruption Practices Act would prohibit offering any bribe to the custom office – for example to free a shipment of goods that was lost in red tape (Pitman & Sanford, 2006). Most companies also have policies against bribery as well. In this situation, however the main issue at hand is that of personal ethics. When in a situation where your company is unknown and there is no business being conducted, normal business ethics and laws (including FCPA) do not apply only personal ethical standards.
The World Cup impacted the 20th century economically because of it’s globalization of the of the sport and it’s creation of the soccer business in the world wide market. When the World Cup first emerged into the light of the world it soon became a new global business as countries spent money just to watch the amazing game. However this global business wouldn’t have started without the creation of the generator and controller of the World Cup themselves, FIFA. The absolute mecca of the soccer world was created in “ May 1904....founded by representatives from France, Belgium, Holland...
