Nowadays, same-sex couples have been both permitted and protected by marriage law nationwide in 24 countries in the world, including 19 developed countries such as America, Britain, France and Germany, which means that gay marriage has already become a central issue for the recent years (Yen & Zampelli, 2017). Besides, these days, a postal survey has been conducted by Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) to get to learn about people’s view towards the change in legislation of gay marriage in Australia with voluntariness (Belot, 2017). Thus, this moment is a relatively important time period for Australian Marriage Law. When it comes to indigenous reconciliation, different from same-sex marriage, this is a deep-rooted social problem in Australia (Mclntosh, 2014). The conflict between aborigines and the wider community lasted dozens of years. Aborigines were treated unfairly even being discriminated by others in a not short time period in Australian history. The term “reconciliation” was involved in national politics with Indigenous affairs in 1991 (Brennan, 2014). With historical and political background, although Australia Government has already showed their introspection towards previous racial policy …show more content…
Using Qantas as an instance, there would be both positive and negative influence on its financial performance. On the one hand, this action surely brings a number of benefits from shareholders’ prospective. As for marriage equality, an increasing number of customers who support same-sex marriage may be attracted to turn to Qantas with higher possibility, which will surely rise the profit of Qantas. When it comes to indigenous reconciliation, same rationality, those who have the same idea as Qantas do would choose to be Qantas’s customer (Cooperrider & Fry, 2009). The reason why of this phenomenon is that, instead of being rational, most of the customers tend to be emotional when they make decisions. When customers could feel the social connection between themselves and the corporation, they are more willing to spend money in the corporation (Smith & Rönnegard, 2016). However, for the issue of gender diversity, there is something more could be discussed with. If Qantas stand out for the gender, the policy towards employees would surely be equal and fair between genders. By doing so, a great number of employees would be drawn into Qantas for a better working environment, which provides Qantas a competitive advantage to beat those corporations who are still hesitating (Papasolomou-Doukakis, Krambia-Kapardis, & Katsioloudes, 2005). Also,
The purpose of this report is to show how Qantas was affected by global financial crisis. Qantas is the second oldest airlines in the world. It is one of the tough competitors for other airlines. But Qantas was affected badly during the crisis, the tickets prices went up because the fuel prices went up. I have suggested few recommendations for Qantas to bounce back , what can be done without laying of the employees and have also spoke about cost cutting.
• Qantas had to make an increased profit and pay a dividend to its shareholders which increased over the years of management
Over the years Australia has had many different problems with racism and racism affecting peoples’ lives. Many racial groups have been affected, most significantly the Aboriginals. The end of world war two in 1945 marked a huge change in types of racism. Australia went from the ‘superior’ white Australians dominating over immigrants and aboriginals. To a relatively multicultural and accepting society that is present today.
Indigenous People. In evaluating the Legal System’s response to Indigenous People and it’s achieving of justice, an outline of the history of Indigenous Australians - before and during settlement - as well as their status in Australian society today must be made. The dispossession of their land and culture has deprived Indigenous People of economic revenue that the land would have provided if not colonised, as well as their ... ... middle of paper ... ...
...ndigenous recognition and the removal of racist remarks has been an on-going theme for a vast majority of time. The necessity of Constitutional reform to close the gap on cultural divide as well as support the on-going concept of reconciliation is essential in ensuring Australia continues to improve and nurture its relationship with Indigenous peoples. The process of amendment through referendum has proven to be problematic in the past, with the success rate exceptionally low. Though with key factors such as bi-partisan support, widespread public knowledge and correct management, the alteration to remove racial discrimination and provide recognition for Indigenous persons within the Constitution is highly achievable. If proposed and eventually passed, this will provide assistance in eliminating many of the cultural gaps Indigenous persons face throughout society.
Struggles by Aboriginal and Torres Strait islander people for recognition of their rights and interests have been long and arduous (Choo & Hollobach: 2003:5). The ‘watershed’ decision made by the High Court of Australia in 1992 (Mabo v Queensland) paved the way for Indigenous Australians to obtain what was ‘stolen’ from them in 1788 when the British ‘invaded’ (ATSIC:1988). The focus o...
During the late sixteen century, when the first fleet arrived to Australia and discovered the free settlers or known as Australian Indigenous inheritors (The Aborigines), the community of aboriginal inhabitants since then have experienced vast levels of discrimination and racism against their gender, race, colour and ethnicity. The term over representations refers to the presents of minority or disproportionate ethnic aboriginal groups represented in the criminal justice system (CJS). This essay will further explain the relationship between aboriginal communities and policing discussed in Blagg (2008) and Cunneen (2007, the three major sources of concern in association to aboriginal over representation in CJS which include; systematic bias,
In 1965, an Integration policy was introduced, meaning cultures embracing each other. Although many attempts have been made, including ‘Sorry Day’ and a ‘National Apology’ by Prime Minister Kevin Rudd, the scars run deep and it is sad to know that there are generations whose roots will never be identified. As well today, self-determination is practised, which means that in any matter pertaining to Aboriginals, then, they have a
As European domination began, the way in which the European’s chose to deal with the Aborigines was through the policy of segregation. This policy included the establishment of a reserve system. The government reserves were set up to take aboriginals out of their known habitat and culture, while in turn, encouraging them to adapt the European way of life. The Aboriginal Protection Act of 1909 established strict controls for aborigines living on the reserves . In exchange for food, shelter and a little education, aborigines were subjected to the discipline of police and reserve managers. They had to follow the rules of the reserve and tolerate searchers of their homes and themselves. Their children could be taken away at any time and ‘apprenticed” out as cheap labour for Europeans. “The old ways of the Aborigines were attacked by regimented efforts to make them European” . Their identities were threatened by giving them European names and clothes, and by removing them from their tra...
Qantas International faces both direct and indirect competition, in a highly competitive, global marketplace. Direct competitors to Qantas International are those airlines that market full service international air travel, and the primary direct competitors identified in this market are Emirates and Singapore Airways.
Is change going to keep Qantas in the air, or force them to the ground?
“Today we honour the Indigenous peoples of this land, the oldest continuing cultures in human History. We reflect on their past mistreatment. We reflect in particular on the mistreatment of those who were Stolen Generations—this blemished chapter in our nation’s history. The time has now come for the nation to turn a new page in Australia’s history by righting the wrongs of the past and so moving forward with confidence to the future. We apologise for the laws and policies of successive Parliaments and governments that have inflicted profound grief, suffering and loss on these our fellow Australians” (apology by Prime Minister, Kevin Rudd, 16th November 2009, Parliament House, Canberra.)
Within Australia, beginning from approximately the time of European settlement to late 1969, the Aboriginal population of Australia experienced the detrimental effects of the stolen generation. A majority of the abducted children were ’half-castes’, in which they had one white parent and the other of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent. Following the government policies, the European police and government continued the assimilation of Aboriginal children into ‘white’ society. Oblivious to the destruction and devastation they were causing, the British had believed that they were doing this for “their [Aborigines] own good”, that they were “protecting” them as their families and culture were deemed unfit to raise them. These beliefs caused ...
Introduction Racism is defined as a belief that inherent differences among the various human racial groups that determine the cultural or individual achievements. Prejudice or discrimination or even antagonism directed against the Aborigines always can be seen in Australia. Since then, Australia has been rated “One of the most racist” country besides America in the world, especially to the locals, the Aborigines. This report is going to critically analyse this research which is done by David Mellor, and also to outline the methodologies and samples that are used in this research, also the other racism issues Australia.
It created a classificatory system in which the ‘white’ world was valued and normalized, and one that assigned the Indigenous other to a pre-modern past, outside the intervention of social redemption. As indicated above, the laws, policies and practices of separation and protection resulted in the removal of Indigenous people from their country and the removal of children of mixed blood from their families and communities, which continue to have effect the legal, political, economic, social and cultural status of Indigenous peoples of Australia
