There are many similarities between different texts in literature as well as film. Many movies you see are alike. However, every one of them has their own perspective on the content that is presented. Two movies may have an almost identical plot line, but they change the way you view it. For example, there are many movies made about the well known story, Cinderella. They all follow one plot line; a girl’s father dies, and has to live with her wicked stepmother and step sisters whom she does all the dirty work for, a “fairy godmother” helps her sneak out to go to a dance but has to be back by 12:00 so her stepmother does not find out. The girl goes to the dance, meets her true love who just happens to be the guy every other girl is dying to have. She runs out before the clock strikes 12:00 and loses an item of hers that her true love just so happens to find. He uses it to find the girl and they live happily ever after. The drama, “Romeo and Juliet”, shares many similarities to the ancient text, “Pyramus and Thisbe”. Universal themes are ideas that span nations because of their relevance to mankind. True love and death is the universal theme of the two tales. “Romeo and Juliet” can compare to “Pyramus and Thisbe” for three reasons; the lovers come from disagreeing families, the tales are both tragedy, and they are based on misconception and ill-timing.
These two films come from entirely different genres, have entirely different plots, and are even based in entirely different galaxies, but the share the theme of the hero’s journey. This concept can be equally applied to nearly every book, movie, and other such works, as long as you dig under the surface and find the meaning beneath. The elements of the hero’s journey are found in both films, and with a critical eye, can be found all around us. This is the classic story of the hero; in every shape and form an author can apply it too.
Throughout these two romantic and tragic stories, there are many examples of similarities and differences with catastrophe, characters, and themes. In conclusion of The Hunger Games, twenty-two loves are lost because the people involved in the games are trying to save their own lives. Every movie that is written has a certain attitude to it. Some of these are intended to be laughed at and others are meant to be heartfelt. Though each movie is written with its own voice, so to speak, many have similar plots or themes. The two movies Fools Rush In and My Big Fat Greek Wedding are two of these movies that have similarities in the themes, but not necessarily in the plots. Both of these romantic comedies have strong religious backgrounds on the woman’s side of the family and differences in culture. The main theme between these two movies is the quest for happiness and all the troubles that must be overcome to achieve it.
Man has this brilliant tool called imagination allowing them to think up ideas and concepts that didn’t exist before. Although everyone’s imagination is different, sometimes the same idea can be used and transformed into another person’s work. This is the case of Homer’s Pyramus and Thisbe, and William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. To the normal person several similarities are obvious between the two works. Some similarities between the texts of Romeo and Juliet and Pyramus and Thisbe are: the two pairs of lovers wanting to run away together, the parents ignorance of the subject, and the lovers killing themselves thinking the other was dead.
Paramount aspect of the movie and the play, the theme, were the same, and the overall messages in both were the same. For example, one main message in the stories was that love conquers all. This was demonstrated in both the play and the film when Romeo and Juliet kept secretly meeting each other even though they knew it was against their families’ wishes. In one scene of both the movie and the play Romeo and Juliet even got married and died together so that even if they could not be together on earth they would be together in death.

Shakespeare’s play sets in Verona but “Pyramus and Thisbe” sets in Babylon on a hill. However both characters are from rich families, they love each other, and they committed suicide over one another. “The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet” has a wide variety of characters, but never had a lion.
