Pursuing Your Destiny
Have you ever wondered what is your goal in life, your fate or destiny? It is ok if you have not, but majority have. Throughout this fable, the main character chooses many difficult choices about his destiny. In the novel, The Alchemist, by Paulo Coelho, Santiago learns, “Remember where your heart is, there you will find your treasure.” First, Santiago has a conversation with his father about his future. Next, the Soul of the World makes Santiago recognize a valuable lesson. Lastly, Santiago listens to his heart which was speaking of many important lessons.
To begin, Santiago has a talk with his father about his future. For example, when Santiago is in Andalusia, he summons up his courage to talk with his father about his travelling desires but, his father tries to convince him to become a priest: "’But I'd like to see the castles in the towns where they live,’ the boy explained…’Well I'd like to see their land, and how they live,’ said his son…’The people who come here have a lot of money to spend, so they can afford to travel,’ his father said. ‘Amongst us, the only ones who travel are the shepherds.’ ‘Well, then I'll be a shepherd!’” (11).
