Immigrants and America For hundreds of years, immigrants have come from all over the world in hopes of pursuing the American Dream. Many things have changed with time, such as the idea of America and the American Dream. News, politics, and even wars have impacted the way Americans view immigrants. America and the American Dream have changed for the following reasons: immigrants have a higher life satisfaction than American-born citizens, immigrants help build the American economy, and Americans have positive views of immigrants. Immigrants who have traveled from other countries have a better success rate than those born in America. . .” (ZEITZ) The economy benefits from immigrants working jobs that need to be filled. It helps America by filling jobs, but it also helps immigrants because they can now work. With the economy building, Americans have changed their views on immigrants. The views over time have changed tremendously. The article “Majority of Americans Continue to Say Immigrants Strengthen the U.S.” gives graphs of the number of Americans who think immigrants are a burden. According to the graph in the article, in 1994, 63% of Americans thought that immigrants were a burden while 31% thought they were a strength to America. Later on, the graph shows, the views have changed. In 2019, 63% of Americans saw immigrants as a strength to America, while 28% said they’re a burden.
