Apple Computers founder Steve Jobs passed away recently, and news outlets paid tribute to him by listing his accomplishments, and playing video of him speaking. One of these clips showed Mr. Jobs delivering a commencement speech at Stanford University in 2005, and the speech included a treasure trove of information. In one of my favorite parts of his address, Jobs said” you can't connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something — your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever.” (Jobs, 2005) This piece advice is simple to understand intellectually, but it also proves difficult to follow. Many people need to understand how they can achieve their dreams before they endeavor to follow them. I delayed returning to school for years because my dream, of practicing law, seemed unrealistic. So how does someone take a leap of faith, and trust that the dots will connect? I believe the answer to this question presents itself through tools like personality tests, and philosophies like those put for in the book Think and Grow Rich, and video The Secret. I found the Meyer-Briggs personality test gave me a better understanding of myself, and a glimpse into how others may perceive me. The Meyers Briggs classified me as an ENTP (Extraverted, Intuitive, Thinking, Perceptive). Five percent of the population is classified ENTP. In ENTP’s, Extraverted and Intuition dominant the personality type and they desire an understanding of the world that they live in. Their strong intuition allows ENTP’s to quickly, and accurately, process information to size up a situation. This understanding of people and situations gives them a dis... ... middle of paper ... ...s whatever they desire. Unlike the genie in Aladdin, the Universe Genie does not limit the wisher to three wishes. He grants an unlimited amount of wishes with no bounds. This Genie does require the wisher to use visualization to aid in the interpretation of incoming signals. The Secret provides a philosophy for all who believe Think and Grow Rich require too much work. Everyone contains within himself or herself the ability to achieve their goals in life. This gives me a feeling of empowerment, and control over my life’s ultimate destination. Many truths in life allow each of us as individuals to take the steps necessary to achieve wealth, happiness, and fulfillment. Personality tests allow individuals to analyze the qualities they possess, and philosophies, like those put forth in Think and Grow Rich and The Secret, guides us in their use. Works Cited Stanford
Myers-Brigs is a personality assessment that focuses on specific traits that allow a person to capture a deeper understanding of who they are and what exactly makes them an individual. These traits are the person’s core personality of who they are behind closed doors, not how they would desire to behave. These traits are inborn and are the natural emotional reaction to the environment around us. There are four sections of the Meyers Briggs with two options in each section. Each person who completes the personality assessment is assigned four letters that represent their personal personality type. A summary is given that delves deeper into what those four letters represent. The summary includes, but is not limited to, strengths and weaknesses, relationships, and careers.
Steve jobs embarked into a journey that many would not dare follow due to fear and uncertainty. Through his commencement speech
The Myers and Briggs personality test is unlike many of the personality tests you will find randomly online because it was designed to examine the ways in which you focus on the world and make everyday decisions. After taking this test myself I have found out a few things about myself that I did not really notice before. According to the Myers-Briggs test my personality type is INFP, which stands for Introversion, iNtuition, Feeling, and Perceiving. At the start of this test I had no idea that I was considered an introvert because as far as I can remember I have always loved being around people and never really thought about things before acting, which is the exact personality of an extrovert. The end of this personality test has a section that describes the different traits of those under that category and as for what it says about me I do feel that it matches some of my traits to a tee, but at the same time I feel like there are a few traits that are a bit off. Perso...
After taking this personality test I could not decide if I felt that my results were accurate about me or not. The personality test resulted in describing me as an extravert, intuitive, feeling, and judging (Humanmetrics,
Life is very valuable, but is also extremely limited. Just think about it, we are only around for such a microscopic portion of the world’s existence. Therefore, one must live every day as if it was our last since our life has tremendous value. Steve Jobs discusses the idea of life and death in his brilliant 2005 Commencement Address at Stanford University, in which he presents these ideas in a clear, organized way by sharing three personal stories. The first story is about connecting the dots. The dots story concludes by saying that the dots in life will connect looking backwards, or in other words, everything happens for a reason, therefore trust in “your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever.” Steve Jobs then tells us that we must find
We all have aspirations in life that we want to achieve and although everyone’s goals in life may be different we all want to end up with the same thing, a life we are proud of. For me, a life I would be proud of consists of many factors such as having a family, a job I love, and being able to achieve all my dreams and not have any regrets. Henry David Thoreau once said,“If one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams, and endeavors to live the life which he has imagined, he will meet with a success unexpected in common hours”. Finding a major that I will end up loving for the rest of my life is one of my many dreams and because of all my research I am one step closer to achieving it.
“Never underestimate your own strength. You were born for a purpose and are blessed with the power to achieve it” (Leon Brown). I have this quote printed out and on the wall next to my door so I can see it every day as a reminder to myself. I believe that we all have a purpose on this earth and that everything we go through on the journey there has a reason whether to teach a lesson or set an example. We have places where we want to end up and goals we want to achieve. We set these goals and dreams to help us fulfill the purpose we see for ourselves. I believe my purpose is to help people in their times of need. To fulfill my purpose, I will need to use my personal, academic and career goals to create a pathway to get to where I want to be
Your unlimited power lies in your ability to control your thoughts. A confused mind works
Theodore Roosevelt once said, “In any moment of decision, the best thing you can do is the right thing, the next best thing is the wrong thing, and the worst thing you can do is nothing.” Steve Jobs’s commencement address on June 12, 2005 for the Stanford University Class of 2005, conveys a similar message. Jobs is the founder of Apple, Pixar, and NeXT, but he was not always at the top. Jobs talks about his trials before he became a success, but he focuses on overcoming these obstacles; not dwelling on how difficult they were.
Before taking the Myers-Briggs Interactive Test, I didn’t really know what to expect or what kind of questions I would be answering in order to determine what my personality type would be. Afterwards however, I wasn’t too surprised with my results of the test. Out of the sixteen different personality types, I got the INFJ personality type which simply means dominant introverted intuition. All of those letters were pretty self-explanatory and accurate according to how my temperament and personality are. The statistical conclusion was 67% introvert (I), 38% intuitive (N), 50% feeling (F), and 56% judging (J). Therefore I had a distinctive preference of introversion over extraversion, a moderate preference of intuition over sensing, a moderate preference of feeling over thinking, and a moderate preference of judging over perceiving.
The Meyers-Briggs personality test is a short quiz that categorizes people's personalities into sixteen different types. The test calculates if a person is introverted or extroverted, relies on intuition or sensing, makes decisions on feelings or thinking, and if they are judging or perceiving. The quiz defined my personality as introverted, intuitive, thinking, and judging. Which is shortened as INTJ. I believe that the Meyers-Broggs personality test was quite accurate at determining my personality.
My whole life I have always wanted to become a successful engineer, and graduate from the University of Cincinnati. Some of my goals in life are to go to the University of Cincinnati. Another one of my goals is to become some type of engineer. But as of right now I would like to be a aerospace engineer. To be honest I really don’t know what influenced me to want to become and engineer. But something about engineering always appealed to me for some reason. But lately my engineering teacher has had a positive impact on me and is really making me like engineering and the overall field. So I guess that Mr. Smith has influenced me into being an engineer. My plan b is to be an engineer too. But this type of engineering would just be easier to do. My plan b as of right now is just to become an engineer but just one that would be easier than being and aerospace engineer.
During the course of six weeks, I learned how to set realistic goals and understand what a goal is. Before entering my EDCP class, I assumed goals were very minute things such as going to lacrosse practice or making the team in high school. I never thought to plan for school assignments let alone my future. Goals are characterized by 5 aspects Specific, measurable, actionable, realistic, and timeframe (SMART). Goals are what set students apart we all want something different whether it be academic, financial, personal, professional, and health and wellness goals are dear to my heart.
Ethics is basically a set of moral values and principles of one’s own or an organization. It is diagnosticating between right and wrong matter. Ethics is derived from a Greek word ‘ethos’ which means character or habits. ”Ethics is not definable, it is not implementable, because it is not conscious, it involves not only our thinking, but also our feeling.(Setzar 1709-1784)”.However, ethical values could be different among different individuals or personalities as everyone has their own precedence in life and also they have different cultures, religion , nation and nurturing according to which they prioritize their values. Moreover, these ethical values play a vast role in attaining certain goals in life either personal or professional. Goal is basically a result or achievement that one tends to acquire in life. But one shouldn’t earn his/ her goal on the cost of their ethical values. I believe that everyone should have specific plans to achieve desired goals in life but one should always emphasize on his/her own ethical values while making these plans to achieve goals. Many people however set a certain time limit to fetch their goal. I have various goals in my life that I wish to accomplish in my life. First of all I would like to discuss my personal goals. Personal goals are really important in one’s life to have a happy present and pleasant future. Personal goals are what one wants to see himself/ herself in person. My Personal goals are firstly to fulfill all the promises that I have made with my family. My family is in first place for me. I want to make my family proud of me. My father is my ideal as he is a very kind person a very good husband, a very good son and the best father on this earth. I really want to be like my...
